TACT and I were sitting at halfcourt opposite side of the benches in the 4th row. We were surrounded by Pirate fans. Felt like a home game.

Where were you seated?

Just saying, based on where RU is right now vs where we are, if we played right now they would mop the floor with us. Sha has a lot of work to do
I hear you, I'm just not ready to mail in the ru game or the season based on last night. I don't like the sound of the PG situation, either. I thought maybe we were in better shape than that.

Can any of you explain to me why Sha would not want to employ a press from the opening tip until the end of the game given the full squad he has with lots of moving parts and none of it working for a slow down half court controlled game? Just asking you experts.

In the past he has said that's "fool's gold."

Sha needs to install something new on both ends. I cringe hearing the "idk whos gonna start or who the pg is". Have a feeling 2-3 weeks in sha is gonna say" im still trying different lineups"

It might be fool's gold to play the style he is trying with this group of kids. So far, they have not shown they can play a half court slowdown offense. I think it is something very troubling.

Exhibitions don't count but I'd sure rather be Providence who has lit up 2 ACC teams by a combined 51 point margin of victory than us who scored 53 points against Monmouth.

The offense was really, really terrible. We scored 11 points in the first 4 minutes and about 10 in the last 2 minutes. In between there was a ton of garbage.
Just saw a "X" that SJU beat up Texas today, scoring like 50 in the first half or something.

From yesterday's result, it's apparent that Coach Holloway has focused most on defense and very little on offense. Here we go again...

Well if the "secret scrimmage" and exhibition against Monmouth are any indication, we don't have to worry about handwringing over having 15 players. At least 5 of them shouldn't ever see the floor ever.

The season probably comes down to how quickly Jones can become an average PG. Or if maybe Parker can handle it.

This might be the earliest the phrase “we’ve got a deep team”, gets shelved.

What about Anderson?

The team is deep. The question might be are there enough prime players to carry the next level players.
Unfortunately, I respectfully disagree at this time. A deep roster to me indicates individuals capable of starting or playing 15+ minutes. The roster, AT THIS point in time, includes five to seven players out of the fifteen, incapable of doing that.

I believe we have multiple players of Big East caliber. My question is are they 1-2-3 good or 4-5-6 good.

Watching the one game to date I leaned toward the latter and that could be a problem unless moving forward I see differently.

Based on the one exhibition, which may or may not be an adequate snapshot, I don't think we have a deep team. I think we have serviceable depth at certain positions like the 2 and 3. But woefully inadequate (as of now) at the 1, and major flaws at the 4 and 5 where we are badly undersized in our starters and have major questions about the subs at those positions.

I’m not sure we can say this team is deep. Season hasn’t started yet and there’s already 4 players who have no business seeing the court outside garbage time.

by big east play I wouldn’t be suprised to see 11 turn to 8 or 9.

53 points versus Monmouth and 61 (and an L) to Boston college. The deep narrative is out the window until further notice

I am not counting out any of the points. For the first minutes at MU, before any subs, I had no idea who the pg was, and I liked it.

Too early to count out anything.

The depth becomes useful if Sha is able to get max defensive effort and execution out of the group as a whole. Especially if we are pressing like we did much of last year

Then it becomes the question of whether in a given game or the season as a whole, we can get enough offense from the different groups on the floor. Last year we had Budd as a pretty consistent offensive force throughout every game. We had Hines providing that when he was on the floor. We had guys step up for various windows, like MW in the OOC and AJ for much of the year.

Question now is who or what are going to be the combos that provide enough offense and if Sha can get the defensive execution and output from those combos consistently to the level of last season.
