Remember also that, until you get to the football weights, Super 32 brackets are enormous. As in, several weights have well over 100 wrestlers each, and some have 150+. These brackets have more students than several PA public schools have total 9-12 enrollment.

This event must occur in the offseason -- no state athletics body would ever approve that many matches in such a short period of time. It's borderline malpractice.

So while it does provide some compelling individual matches, it's much more a battle of attrition than a predictor.
It also has to occur early in the season. The Ironman is early, and individually, it serves that purpose. The Beast is early. Once the Powerade is done, teams are turning the page and concentrating on their seasons.

Kids cut big-time for those early events. That's their one cut until February or March. You won't see most kids at their Ironman and Beast weights again most places, unless you're in a really competitive state like Pennsylvania or New Jersey wher you have to cut. Kids in states like Virginia are routinely one and even two weight classes up from they wrestle at the Ironman or the Beast once January rolls around. The competition level is so weak in those states that they can go wherever they want.

So with Super 32 finished. Who realistically does Cael go after from the current Juniors and Sophmores?
The sophomore class is not very strong. Ariah Mills from Georgia is the best by far. Kobe Cunanan of Arizona is probably second, but he's not a candidate for us. I don't have a sophomore ranked in the top 10 in any weight class other than 106 and 113.

There's good, and there's Penn State good. The two are not the same. From this side of the country, I think Howard, Staples and O'Farrill have a chance to be Penn State good. Not sure that O'Neill, Dube or Murdock are quite at that level. Same for Hutcherson and Hoare. Neither has separated themselves from the pack to this point.

I honestly can't think of any sophomores as well besides Teag. I would say as far middle weights Howard would be a sure thing. Hutcherson has the skill and athleticism which I think Cael and Casey will do wonders with. Not sure on O'Farrill. I think if he can be a 65/74 that would fit him best. Dube I am a fan of. I see skill which the coaches will handle the rest. My favorites from 2028 are Howard, Dube, Hutcherson, Sanchez, and Heeg.

I'm looking at this a little differently:
- We have landed 6-man classes in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2027. (2026 = 4 heads.) So we can anticipate 6 per year. #Analysis
- With Connor moving up, we're suddenly very thin at 197 -- only Barr and Elliss on the roster, with Elliss cross-listed at 184. (Maybe Henckel, Asher, or James eventually eat their way up?)
- Also with Connor up, we have 3 HWTs (the twins + Bundy) graduating in 2029, leaving only Brown after that.

So IMO in the 2028 and 2029 classes our priorities are: (1) 197; (2) HWT; (3) best available; (4) overall depth.

That means prioritizing Hutcherson + (Hoare or Hazelett but probably not both). Maybe Davis earned some HWT consideration, OTOH he was the 9-seed so Cael will probably want to see more from him. (Also, are Hazelett or Davis football prospects?)

O'Farrill and Howard are definitely getting recruited, and seem likely to commit.

IMO Cael goes after Sanchez, but we've landed a lot of lightweights recently. Hard to say how that goes.

Karenbauer, Eisenhower, Gallegos, Dube, and Staples will likely all get called. We won't get all of them, and probably won't try to get all of them. I think we get at least 1 as depth. Maybe another as a potential starter?

(FWIW, Dube is a PA resident attending private school in Ohio. He's a former PJW champ at General McLane.)

Maybe we'll call Teag Sanderson. Coin flip.

That leaves us still needing to find HWT depth.

I could see Hoare backsliding into being a 197 in college because of his frame. He’s not a tall upperweight like Brown, he’s got more of a Snyder-esque build. That would limit his ability to build into being a bonafide heavy.

I can’t make up my mind about Dube. He’s a gifted scrambler, but he’s smack dab in the center of a log jam of the future PSU lineup.

Karenbauer has a good ceiling and probably tops out as no bigger than a 133. Not sure about Gallegos, but as Willie pointed out yesterday, he’s putting together a helluva resume. He beat Sidun, has placed high at Fargo and the state tournament, and just won Super 32.

My concern about Gallegos is similar to the Bachmanns: he shuts down his offense against the better wrestlers. As an incoming JR, he should be overcoming this tendency.

Here are his last 4 matches at Super 32:
- 2-1 over Emili (traded escapes)
- 3-2 over Bell (2 escapes + stall call)
- pinned Farnsworth 5:59 (see below)
- 4-2 over Hernandez

Gallegos was tied 1-1 with Farnsworth until the very end, got a takedown with 0:02 left and won by fall in those last 2 sec.

So he got 2 takedowns in his last 4 matches -- and one was at the final buzzer.

Credit to him for winning all of those matches, but he needs to outgrow this for college. Guys like this get upset at NCAAs left and right (cough cough Dee Lockett).

Also for reference: Sidun beat Emili 12-3 at states.

I agree with a lot of this..I think we are forgetting how good Sidun is. If we think back from Beast, Powerade, then states..he was just on a different level. Gallegos beat him at Regionals then Sidun won the state bracket and I can't remember where Gallegos finished. Hutcherson is must get with our 197 need. I'll keep saying when Cael and Casey get him he will be lights out. Howard I would think is a lock. To me O'Farrill is the one that I'm curious about. Kid can scrap but what weight is he in college? 74 or 84..either way he is good. Hoare is a HWT. You seen that this weekend, he was definitely about 230-240lb. Let's also keep in mind if you land Sanchez then the following year you land Restivo. That means Sidun, Sanchez, Restivo all at 125lb.

Is Sanchez going to be 125 in college? He's gone from 106 to 120 and has 2yrs of high school left. He's only listed at 5'5", but looked more than an inch taller than Sidun when they just met, and definitely had the bigger frame.

Gallegos was 4th at states. Lost to Gretz in the semis then Morrison for 3rd. Morrison is understandable, returning state champ committed to Penn, who lost 7-6 in rideouts to Sidun.

Less understandable was his consi semis win over D3 commit/SR 1x placer Wilson, 5-2 SV. Wilson's next lowest score was 5-4, including wins over Kapusta and Emili. How did Gallegos go 2-2 into SV against that guy?

Don't forget he's a HS kid and they aren't gonna wrestle great every match. I wouldn't be looking at other match scores trying to compare its wrestling.
