How does a Division 1 quarterback at a B1G school ranked 15th in the country miss that throw? Vonnahme was wide open. Get the first down there and we go on to win IMO.

Damn that was tough to watch. The offense was downright offensive today. Just like the Iowa teams of a few years ago when the defense did its job but the offense forgot to show up.

Yay.

All I know is that outside of the last drive vs Michigan which was lucky as hell and against awful low end teams Brown has been bad. He sucked the entire ISU game. He sucked the entire time he played vs OSU and he sucked vs Minnesota. Heck had a great drive vs OSU and an entire great game vs Washington. And while he struggled vs Minnesota it was a 3-3 game while he was in there. He deserved the opportunity to win or lose that game. We have suffered though way worse play than Heck had today and KF never even considered changing QBs. It was a BS move to make the change and even worse that he doubled down and rode Brown for the loss.

We dont know if he was expecting DJV to flatten out his route just like Heck might have thought Diaz as going to flatten out his route on that TD in the making that wasnt. Maybe Hank guaged DJV moving faster than he was.

YEah, it was a huge miss by Hank and the offense.

Iowa was down 10-0 at home to ISU this year and made no change.

KF was ITCHING to put his 'declared starter' back in, as he has down for a quarter-century, regardless of how bad he is, or even how good the backup is. :poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop:

The quick yank of of Heck is laughable. Like you said, we have such MUCH WORSE, long-term horrific QB play forever around here. Heck puts up an ineffective quarter and a half, and now we'll never see him again. Brown has been trash and very bad against every non-high school team we've played, lucked out on the only 2 TD drives vs Mich.

Thought I saw where Hank said DJV "tweaked" his route a little bit on that play. Apparently enough so you miss him completely.

I also look at Hank's lack of pocket awareness in terms of sensing backside pressure.

He has to see/recognize that and have a clock in his head at the very least if he's not already checking pre-snap what could be coming.

It cost us right away against Ohio State, and it cost us multiple times against Minnesota.

He just stood there, no foot movement and took the hit.

You can't do that at any level.

On the reverse side, when he actually does see pressure coming, he's shown some ability to slide around in an out of the pocket to avoid sacks and get free to make a play or throw the ball away. The Michigan game being a prime example.

But his locking on targets downfall gets him trouble too often, and yes, some of that can also be attributed to the routes he's looking to throw to.

We need more crossing routes and willingness to put the ball in the middle of the field on short and medium routes.

I think the coaches lack confidence in us putting the ball over the middle, and that's an issue that doesn't get talked about enough.

There's been way too much miscommunication between the QBs and receivers this year.

Vonnahme did look like he drifted his route into more of a Seam and Hank was hoping he'd run more of a post to the open middle.

Problem was both he and Heck rushed their throws instead of just putting some f***ing air under it and letting the receiver run under the ball.

MUCH easier said than done, but for f*** sake, if they are THAT wide open, I know they want to get the ball to a spot where only our guy can get it, but just lofting it to them in an open area of the field is not putting the ball in danger..............

Not a great sign, IMHO, when QBs make excuses. Maybe DJV did tweak the route, but you don't make excuses. Take responsibility. That's what a real leader, a real QB does. Or maybe Hank just needs to pray harder.

If grandpa Ferentz and Lester watch the game tape and still think Hank Brown is the better QB, they are both clueless. Hecklinski had the killer pick, but his Washington road win deserves more playing time than 1 winning pass against a bad Michigan team. You'd think us Hawkeye fans would be used to the inept QB decisions, but Hank Brown is a skinny Deacon Hill.

Hecklinski had a lower PFF grade than Deacon Hill in any of his starts. He is genuinely unplayable. We have seen him get significant playing time in 4 games and he has sucked in 3 of them. Washington was clearly a fluke caused by a Washington D that created 0 pressure and left every receiver wide open.

It will be Brown and rightfully so. At least he hit his wide open TD pass over the middle. He at least has a big arm so MAYBE he can get better. Heck, not so much.

Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to someone else.

I think their both pretty average,.. Hank lacks pocket presence and Heck tends to be overly aggressive.

They were both very bad. You had heck starting this game, go back to hecklinski one last time as starter and if it’s a dud move him out of the top two rotation. Go with brown and Sullivan the rest of the way. But if he was starting and they both sucked, why would brown start? Do we really think heck didn’t have two good throws in him if he stayed in?

Take away the two Hank throws with most yards after catch and Hank possibly doesn’t break 50 yards in 15 attempts.

It’s this or go to Sullivan.
But decision really is limited to having impact until Iowa figures out a running scheme that actually has a pulse.

that is exactly what i thought after the Michigan game is how lucky we were that a couple of those throws on the last drive weren't picked off.
