St. John's defeated # 7 Texas at MSG today 87-74. We out rebounded the Johnnies last week 58-51 and the Johnnies beat Texas today by 13 points and also out rebounded Texas. We gave St. John's a tougher game in 4 overtimes. Hopefully we can have a successful season.
Both teams will be much better late in the year

Yes maybe this year we we matter but we can’t learn much from exhibitions. Thru simply don’t count in the record and it’s just not the same

but i think we will be better. How much is the question?

You can’t focus on results of exhibitions, first and foremost they don’t count towards a resume so essentially they’re meaningless. Plus the results can be quite random compared to real results by mid season and reality of what a team truly looks like. The only take away is to get a sneak peek at players, especially the new ones to the roster, I like what I saw in the exhibitions especially of Gurdak,Jones, and Smith, but beyond that, I don’t see much that’s meaningful to take away. I liked some of what I saw of our team (we hung in there with two good teams), but saw some things I didn’t like as well (still a lot of mid range, and when we do shoot threes we still tend to miss them). I think we’re improved but have no clue what that means when we play meaningful games that matter against real opponents. Not trashing Nova or St John’s, just that the stakes were low for us and them. We played good competition at least so hope that helps have us ready right out of the gate and we don’t have any disastrous early slip ups with a loss to New Haven or Sacred Heart for example.

You’re correct in that exhibition results have little value except for one important fact : it helps identify the individual talent level on a team. I recall watching an exhibition game when Ace and Dylan were at Rutgers and recalling the team’s lack of physicality and defensive rebounding ..And that proved true as the schedule ensued.
