At least for me. To have leach suddenly die and then To suffer through these past 3 seasons and then have what is maybe outside of 2014 the most fun I have had watching state play? I mean….i was getting close to somewhat fbreaking the habit, and then kamario and company reeled me back in. I started to believe in all of it, including our coaching staff.

I miss enjoying football. I did for about 4 weeks. And I think that just made it worse.

I’ve aged out of state football in particular and out of college football in general. I thoroughly enjoy the banter on this site, though. It keeps me plugged in.
That’s the thing. I think it’s why I’m sad. I NEED to age out of this. It isn’t fun and takes up an inordinate amount of my time.

Same. I track the score, but I don't watch a game unless I think we can be competitive. I watched the first series yesterday and when KT went out, my son and I went golfing. I am no longer willing to pay the emotional cost of getting disappointed over and over and over and over and over and over and over ........

NFL saved my sanity. I can’t even enjoy well coached college teams knowing it took $50 million to build roster that may or may not pan out.
NFL is a much superior product. But the pace of play is glacial. They need to do something about that.

As big and fast as defensive players are in the NFL you can’t just hurry up and line up. You’ll get players killed without reading the defense and check downs.

Being bad and losing games is never been fun but I am used to it. Seeing what the SEC looks like and how winnable some of these games would be with Kamario is tough.

We got 4 healthy games of the most talented QB we will ever have and now the rest of the season we will have to watch absolute dog **** and hope that we can somehow scratch out wins against TN Tech and Vandy.

I first moved on from sitting in the stands, which I never thought I would be able to do after close to 60 years of going to games regularly in person. I moved to watching it on TV in The Junction area while tailgating, or TV at home for road games. I've noticed now, like yesterday, if I hear the crowd get excited (doesn't happen much) I might glance over at the tv screen to see what happened. I've gone pretty much full circle back to the days of enjoying it on the radio now with an earbud in one ear, a beer in hand and cooking on the grill. If we win awesome. If we suck and don't, I don't get mad at all and throw things like I once did. I have been fully indoctrinated and initiated into MSU football apathy and just plain football apathy as a whole, and it's their fault not mine.

Getting excited, just about to get on the Lebby train and then have it all crumble down to some of the worst football I have watched in person and on tv in a long time.

3yrs in this much ineptness something gotta change.

The people such as my daughter I feel sorry for is that spend a lot of money, a lot of travel 5hrs round trip and really attempt to support for this product.

I think we can all agree that the football gods have never favored State, but yeah… these last 4 years have been more along the lines of the football gods taking a giant, steaming **** on us

Yeah. The Devils family is like that. We come to almost every home game. And I was thinking this morning that even though we always come to games and sit in the scoreboard, and even though we paid for the tickets. Are we really going to come back to another game this year? If it is just going to be the Puckett experience the rest of the way, then we will only win one more game (TT). I just do not know if I want to expend more energy coming to games. I know we can not win. I am not taking a stance on firing Lebby or not. I just know it is getting too hard to justify all the energy and time needed to watch what I saw yesterday. A defense blowing coverage and the Puckett experience. I will continue to buy season tickets for years to come, but I do not know how much more of this particular year I can stomach.

Also, it is not just Lebby that sucks. We took our daughter to the kids' zone thing for the first time yesterday. They need to step that **** up. I mean that was sad. One tiny bouncy house and two people painting faces. For the amount of money being spent, they can do better. So, it is not just Lebby that sucks. Selmon is a joke and things like that are just little ways of showing it.

There are some things that have felt depressing over the last several years:
  • Transfer portal hurts our ability to use our old way of developing players and keeping them
  • We have less money than a lot of other schools, and a spending war is a losing strategy
  • School loyalty appears to be mostly gone
  • We’ve sucked
  • Ole Miss has been good
But….

College football outside of State is more fun to watch. Good teams lose more than they used to. The world of Bama and UGA beating everyone year after year was miserable, and top tier teams are losing far more than they used to.

The playoff expansion is great for us. It at least gives us hope. We’re not going to win it, but it helps to make it in then convince yourself you have a chance. And some upsets will happen, which will make it fun.

I’m frustrated but also mixed on Lebby getting another year in context of Kamario and how good we looked before he got hurt. Regardless, we’ll have shots at getting top 24 and that’s a lot more fun than a 4 team playoff that we’ll never sniff. 24 is even dramatically better than 12 for us

Pace of play is also glacial because players on both sides don’t want to do more for the same money. Same reason why NFLPA fought hard against a 17th game. And also, with a 53-man roster, teams don’t have the depth for the constant substitutions and personnel matching.

Ya it sucks it’s simple. Don’t not interview guys like cignetti. Recruit better by branding better like the tools up north. Get a good staff. Stop making excuses souse for mediocrity and calling years year “zero” man up and realize we can win and stop sulking.

This reminds me of the old skit on Hee Haw, where the fellows would sing, “Gloom, despair, and agony on me…Deep dark depression, excessive misery….if it weren’t for bad luck we’d have no luck at all….gloom despair and agony on me”. We land a great quarterback, get four good games….defenders going down like flies….oh, hell, State, why me?? I feel for the whole body of us.

I am now very depressingly convinced that we just won’t have a real chance to compete until and unless NFL type rules are applied to college football. Contracts, salary caps, free agency, etc.

I love college sports. I didn’t watch one single MLB game this year. I haven’t watched a single NFL game this year. I never watch the NBA or NHL. But every Saturday I watch college football from 11 AM to 11 PM. When State is playing football well and winning more than losing, I enjoy ALL DAY Saturdays! I watched every single State baseball game last year. All 62 games. I watched several basketball games until it became clear State sucked again. I’ll give Jans a few games this year to see if it is Hubbard and 7 misfits like the past 2 years. I’m semi-retired so time is all I’m investing. Fixed Incomes will do that. I’ll watch the next 5 games, expecting better coaching and better play and continue to be disappointed. Lebby is still the coach and Jerry Jones….er…., I mean Keenum is still the President. Too many Foreign students and not enough 4 star football players is his motto!

There were a few good years with Ballard. Several good years with JWS. I remember every coach since 1979 and most of the time it was not fun. Even with Leach it really wasn't fun. I am 62 and the best and most fun time for me was the Mullen years. If they hired him, I would hop back in the game. Season tickets and donations. I would be all in. Money and time are being wasted right now. I don't want my time and money wasted. I will record the game Saturday just in case hell freezes over and we win but I am not watching. I am going up to family farm and do some work I have been putting because of football.

I’m 54 and had never had season tickets before … I was Exhibit A of what’s happening to college football attendance, enjoying staying home and watching every game for free.

But my kids are 13 and 14, and I want them to be interested in college generally, and State specifically. And a few years ago my preacher mentioned how much he still thinks about going to basketball games with his dad when he was young, and it hit me like a ton of bricks how much I remember going to every State home football game with my dad, from about the 5th grade until I got a driver’s license and a girlfriend. So I sprung for some really good seats starting last year.

The end result is: I’m now spending enough on season tickets to buy a decent used car, and am now forcing myself to sit through all of this in person. Just have to keep telling myself that it’s fun being back on campus, esp. when the weather’s cooler, and my kids will always remember it. Sigh.

My dad is getting older and he really enjoys going to the games, even tho we suck.

I think it’s because (partly) we missed out on so many of them when I was younger due to him always carrying me around to sports.

Because of that, I don’t mind taking him and spending time with him.

However, if it weren’t for that, I would probably go to 1 or 2 a season. Maybe.

I just enjoy spending my weekends at home, being productive. Game days just don’t provide much anymore.

I knew it was over for in the summer of 2021 on that fateful day when they passed the NIL rule, and it's been downhill ever since then. I figured we'd be ok for a while because we had Leach, but nope, he freaking dies. Every decision since has been terrible.

And generally, the sport has just gotten worse as well. I used to follow crootin but I have no interest in it now due to the portal. Not to mention the absurdity of the conferences. Playoff expansion was good but now they've gone too far with that too.

Combination of it all has rendered it TV background noise for me. Still go to a few games, for nostalgia and pain I guess.

This is 1000% it for me. I came into this season with zero expectations, but after 4 weeks of course the optimism crept in. Now I sit back and watch the whole conference beat each other and can't help but think "sure would be nice to be a part of this". Oklahoma was a very winnable game, and Texas would have been as well. But of course, here we are sitting at home yet again watching everyone else get laid while we beat off in the cuck chair

State tends to have up and then down decades. The 70's, 90's, and 2010's had generally decent/good teams while the 60's, 80's, 00's, and now the 2020's had/have generally terrible teams. I'm thinking we got another 3-4 years of this before it gets better going by past trends; however, NIL and the new "rules" may increase the length of awfulness for State football.

So after reading this I'm just going to assume KT transfers and we extend Lebby for no particular reason other than "we can't fire a 5 win coach in year 3!". NIL contributions crash as a result. Record low ticket sales and attendance follow.

We are...clap clap...Emstate
