I'm not putting this one on the coaches. So many players failed to do their job today. I don't remember ever seeing this bad of a shitshow.
I agree. They had their mistakes, but good moments. For example, I was very shocked at the fake punt in our territory. Holy cow, I still can't believe we did that . . . gutsy call.

- Coaches can't make our two QBs hit wide open receivers or not throw it into the hands of defenders.
- Coaches can't make QBs, RBs, PRs, and WRs not cough up the ball (I would say it's a bad call to still not replace our PR).
- Coaches can't make punt blockers block. Holy cow, the guy went right through two people, including Buffington.
- Coaches can't force Watson to stay onsides. That was so asinine.

So a player fumbling a ball or your best WR dropping a pass right in his hands that gets intercepted is on the coaches poor preparation? Explain how you'd coach RVZ on how not to drop that pass that was right in his hands and got picked. Are you saying the coaches don't work EVERY day on ball security with the RB"s? Have you ever seen Iowa have 6 or 7 TO's in a game. Is that coaching. We stop Minny on a 4th and goal and our DB is lined up a good 1/2 yd offsides. Is that coaching when he;s a veteran players?
You described numerous players on the team apparently not having their heads in the game. Sounds like the coaching staff didn’t have the team in the right frame of mind to play a rivalry game.

Ultimately the coach gets the praise when things go well, and they also get the blame when they dont.

I’ve already destroyed this take. Try to keep up.
Try to pull your head out of your backside. Not every guy losing a fumble or dropping a pass is because the player doesn't have his head in the game. Your one of those guys who sits on his couch and acts like he'd never make a mistake or would have called all the right plays after watching how the play went, and then says, "I wouldn't have run that, I'd have done this". There's no escaping this stuff from some of you after any game we lose. You know its funny though, because most of you know it alls were no where to be found after we traveled to Seattle and spanked Washington on a short week, when most of the week all we heard was how bad we ALWAYS play on the west coast. I guess the coaches did a pretty good job of having them ready, but you sure didn't here much about that from the peanut gallery.

If I am Tony Diaz's agent, I am shopping him now for next year. A really good talent with nobody to get the ball to him. I would also give Bessinger some major reps in practice because we won't be a contender this year with these two guys playing like they are playing. If they don't like it they can leave. Hank is the most vanilla QB in the Big Ten and not real effective, and Heck, while more versatile, is way too inconsistent. We held Minnesota to 13 points (3 after a blocked punt) and 200 yards and we lose? If Hank is starting going forward then we will lose 3 more games starting with Wisconsin next week.

Time for KF to hang it up. We aren’t a serious football program. You can’t lose to garbage Minnesota
Purdue 41
Minnesota 13

Minnesota 13
Iowa 10

But the Hawkeyes have the winningest coach in Big Ten history. Whatever would they do without him?

Like the post right above yours suggests, when SO MANY players play like absolute crap, coming off a bye week, following the best game of the year, against an opponent they should smoke, that is a very clear sign that the coaches did not put enough time and effort into preparing the TEAM mentally. It was already posted that KF's teams are sub-.500 following bye weeks, so this is not a new thing, only a very extreme example of it. I'm sure if you asked KF and he gave an honest answer (not just coach-speak), he would admit that he didn't have the team ready. I don't understand how you or anyone else gives the coaching staff a pass on the Minnesota fiasco.

I'm pretty sure Tony and his agent are already doing some portal window shopping.... :(

Your free to think what you want, obviously. I can't believe that someone thinks that because RVZ drops a ball right in his hands or our multiple year starter at DB lines up a couple of feet offsides on the 1 yd line is because the coaches didn't prepare them mentally. What the hell are they supposed to do, hold their hands. If the staff has to be working on catching the ball properly, or how to line up at the line of scrimmage in week 7 of a guys 3 or 4th year in college then we have the wrong players. Good Lord. And no I don't think RVZ is the wrong guy, but that's on him, just as Watson lining up offside (by that much) is on him. Not Phil......

You described 2 plays in a game that was chock-full of sh*tting the bed across the board from the opening kick to the walk-off kick. The coaching staff is not responsible for individual miscues. My point, which has been obvious from the start, is that when the entire team is making H.S.-level mistakes, chances are there is something wrong within.

Perhaps it would help if you could describe a situation in which the coaching staff didn't have the team prepared, because if yesterday wasn't it, I don't know what is.

Totally agree. From the get go fumbles, penalties missed cataches etc. Hard to put this on the staff from my perspective. Monday morning and I am still shaking my head. Get ready for the Badgers and put Minnesota in the rear. Go Hawks.

This thread is an example of why this board sucks. Half of the posters are trolls from other teams over hear stiring the pot. Then there are the whining little beatches that are always looking to tear Kirk and the team down.

Was I disappointed, yes. Was this one of the most uncharateristic games under Kirk, yes. With all that, we lost by a 47 yard FG with time expiring. I'll be back in Kinnick on Saturday rooting on the Hawks, win or lose.

Yes there were numerous poor plays and most of them involved ball security, something they work on EVERY day in practice. There were a lot of mistakes, but overall I didn't see a lack of effort. The punt block was a head scratcher. That shouldn't happen. Over all the defense played really well. I really believe the biggest issue with the QB's right now is the switching back and forth. I don't think its helping either one of them. Hecks best game, he knew he was the guy. I'd choose one guy, (and I don't care who it is) and go with it.

I would add about the prep thing. its interesting that when I brought up how well the coaches rallied the troops after the tough loss to OSU for the short week trip to the left coast. pretty much NO one responded. It seems like its okay after a bad game to put it on the coaches for not having them ready, and yet when they did a really good job under tough circumstances for the previous game, (even though many of the naysayers said before hand we'd lose that game). NONE of them were supportive of the staff and the job they did after that game. Yet here they come when the game doesn't go well last week. Why is that exactly.
