Zinn says The Athletic report is accurate? Well ... what does The Athletic report say?:

--------------

"The numbers here refer to the amount of money a school had at its disposal to assemble its 2026 roster — setting aside any player income not managed or controlled by the football program, such as endorsements with national brands. The money comes from a combination of athletic department revenue, outside booster donations and other sources that vary from school to school."

NOTE: It's a report about available money "had at its disposal," not spent money.

"School administrators, on the other hand, have the opposite incentive. They want people to think their number is higher than it really is, which makes them look like great fundraisers."

NOTE: Zinn is a school administrator.

------------------

But somewhere out there is a statement from Schiano saying that our NIL spending was $23.6 million this year. I know this because Kupuna133 said there was. I would like to read (or hear) this statement. If you are asking me if I believe Zinn would used guarded language to make donors/fans believe we were spending more than we are, yes, I believe she is capable of doing that. If you are asking me if The Athletic would make a *best guess* at numbers and then report them as if they came right from a school's balance sheet (knowing the collective college football fandom would run with them as if they had been chiseled on stone tablets), yes, I believe it would. Do I believe that Rutgers football (and associated donors) spent $23.6 million on direct NIL spending for the 2026 season? Not on your life.
Rutgers has an estimated football roster NIL and compensation budget of $20 million to $23.6 million (with head coach Greg Schiano noting a figure around $23.6 million), placing them 14th out of 18 teams in the Big Ten and 46th nationally among Power 4 programs. [1, 2]

This was explained to you the last time you referenced this. There are no longer scholarship limits. There are roster limits. So in lieu of NIL payment. They are giving a “walk on” (term no longer applies) a “scholarship” with rev share. It’s a payment. Would you rather get 40k in nil and get it taxed and have to pay your tuition. Or get 40 k in a rev share scholarship and not pay taxes.
Thank you for explaining something that was not being discussed and is not in dispute.

No? It proves one school used a small percentage on something other than direct player comp. If Rutgers did, prove it.
Sure, right after you prove they didn't. I said Minnesota did (which means 100% of all Big Ten revenue sharing money is not going to direct NIL payments, as I said) - we know this because they admitted to it.

You brought it up. Dude put down whatever you’re smoking. Remember your Minnesota reference.
Things nobody is debating:

1. Whether or not there are scholarship limits.
2. Whether or not there are roster limits.
3. Whether or not walk ones are now receiving scholarships in some instances.

Things people are debating:

1. Whether Rutgers University is utilizing 100% of its Big Ten revenue sharing money on direct NIL payments to football players,
2. If not, whether Rutgers University is utilizing 100% of the portion of its Big Ten revenue sharing money that it has earmarked for football on direct NIL payments to football players, and
3. Whether or not Rutgers University's (and its associated donors) spent $23.6 million on direct NIL payments to football players for the 2026 season.

Dumbass, revenue sharing money can't be used for NIL and you're the only one debating anything because you're lost in the woods. Early onset dementia at play here?

You can't be this stupid to think schools are not spending it. Especially after you got pummeled in other threads over your lack of understanding the difference between NIL and revenue sharing.
You barely know me. I can be much more stupid than this. But to get to your specific points ... (1) Minnesota has already said it is using a portion of their Big Ten revenue sharing on things other than direct NIL payments to players, and (2) your buddies in the previous thread abandoned their stupid argument (that revenue sharing was not considered NIL) when I started quoting the Big Ten's model NIL agreement and the SEC's school presidents ...

I can’t make heads or tails whatever the debate is anymore because you keep changing what it is you’re saying. You bring up MN but when it’s explained to you it’s not relevant. You ask for details about NIL/rev share spending. We supply the data. It doesn’t mean anything because you weren’t there to validate it. Kelli and Greg saying the numbers reported are correct. But you can’t believe it because the on field performance doesn’t represent the capital investment.
Did I leave anything out?

With all do respect, you literally don't know what your talking about and the two bozos you were following last week have abandoned their argument (because it doesn't make any sense). Hell, the SEC's school presidents approved their model NIL / Revenue Sharing contract last week.

Suggestion: Less smugness, less following the crowd, more reading the newspaper on the topic you're discussing.

No no no no no ... you said that Schiano has confirmed we spent $23.6 million this year on NIL to football players. I asked you for a citation. Let's start with that. Let's start with you supplying that quote.

Kelli (and to the best of my knowledge, not Greg) said The Athletic report was accurate. But The Athletic report said Rutgers had the money available to spend on NIL, not that they spent it on NIL. I apologize that I read what was actually written, but unfortunately, that's what it said. Do I believe we had $20+ million available to spend, yes I do. Do I believe we spent that much? No I do not. Did Kelli say we spent that much? No she did not.

Has Schiano said we spent that much? Well ... you claimed he confirmed a $23.6 million number. Yet, I am still waiting with bated breath for a quote/link/citation of where that information came from.

Your move. I look forward to bringing up something which is not being discussed (again).

Again supplied above in post 18 & 41 in this thread. Im sure the numerous reporters are fabricating the citations. Im sure Greg saying I finally have vertical alignment and I am given everything I need to be competitive is not telling the truth.
Do you really think an AD or a coach for that matter would over report what they have available to spend? Most under report. Especially prior to the season. Do you think a coach that is fighting to stay relevant would not spend every dollar he has?

Listen bozo revenue share and NIL are two different pots of money coming from within and outside the university respectively. The article you linked doesn't change any of that...lol.

So maybe stop being so smug to think you know what's going on because you can't even grasp the basics.

The revenue share is used to (among other things) make direct NIL payments from the schools to the players. FFS. Yes, there is also secondary NIL money that comes from outside the school as direct payments to players. That doesn't change the first set of money (the revenue sharing money) as being utilized as direct NIL payments to players. It's why the contracts are referred to as NIL contracts and why the agreements themselves label the payments as NIL payments. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the "difficult to understand" meter, this isn't even 3; there is no reason for you not to understand this. Aside from two or three know-nothings on this message board, nobody else in the country is claiming these aren't NIL payments being made by revenue sharing money. The Big Ten is calling these NIL payments. The SEC is calling these NIL payments. The major sports media is calling these NIL payments. The contracts themselves call these NIL payments.

Thought you said 6 wins saves him. Or are you saying after Umasacre you knew he couldn’t get to 6 so therefore gone. We’ll be lucky to get 1 more win
Six wins he has a shot to stay, but unlikely that happens.

Then you should be able to prove other schools are spending a minuscule amount of revenue share (not NIL which you still don’t know the difference between) on scholarships. Let’s see it. You’re the saying it’s happening because you believe it.

Adventure isn't necessarily dumb, he just enjoys muddying the waters. Why? Not sure. Maybe just enjoys controlling the conversation & narrative. Very weak middle manager type.

When Schiano went public with the “we are a developmental program” nonsense the writing was on the wall. The real quote should have been “ I don’t understand this NIL thing”.
And unfortunately AJ Surace is the poster child. Other than a scholarship he should have never received a penny of NIL and should have been cut loose 2 years ago. This is hindsight but obvious.

I’m fairness he was right. The players he developed left for better situations.

He had real offers out of HS. One can only surmise Schiano negatively impacted his development. He looks like a D3 player

GS literally has a 26% B1G games winning % after 6.5 yrs. We win 1 in 4 conference games but we are on the rise!

There is no other program that would tolerate this without firing the coach except MD- wait they fired their coach.

And sadly, precious few players are developing under his tutelage.

Offers out of high school 4 years ago are irrelevant. You can either play or not and the coaches at RU have seen this guy for 3 years. I have no idea what they saw but since he did not develop they should have moved on even if it was their fault. Who knows what good QB we could have had but did not come

One factor could be that in the pre portal era, you could be very tough on players and bend their will. If you try that now, many will just transfer. Schiano may not have the toolbox to develop players under these circumstances.

Legrand actually talked about some of this. He was clearly walking a tight rope but he said that Schiano can’t interact the same way with players nowadays.

In fairness to Schiano, raising his own NIL up until recently likely took time away from interacting with players as did spending about 125 days in about a 490 day period, or about 25% hiring DCs.
