Now that Coach Cig doesn’t have a Heisman Trophy qb. . .

Wait--"genius" is simply beating Michigan in OT
I give him credit for winning a game but to give Hoover any credit today is a major reach. He was awful--period.
Did you see OT? The QB made a great throw, his first completion since the first half and then ran the ball in. They won the game a week after a tough home loss. Winning is the name of the game.

Right...he didn't complete a throw I the second half. There's no spinning that.
Winning is great but that was not a well coached game. His decision to let time run out before Michigan kicked the FG made no sense. Cig is a great coach. He was underrated for a while then jumped to overrated due to Mendoza.
I don't think anyone being honest would say he's coached well the past two weeks. Or against Northwestern...they got very lucky to win that one.

If you can win at IU you are a pretty damn good coach. And he did it in year one.
For sure--it helps in this era with Cuban is bank rolling him
Indiana never had that in the past
Cig's a great coach but let's not pretend it's the Indiana we've known all of our lives.

he doesn’t look like that much of a genius this season.

Let me guess. You were one of the boo birds that helped Kraft thermo-nuke our Football Program for the next decade or two.

Enjoy telling us all in a couple of months how lousy Cig is when he has INDIANA in the CFPs, while we are bitching and moaning about being 0-9 in Big Ten play.

Ironically, the only reason Maryland has a worse record than us right now is James Franklin.

Hoover definitely not Mendoza.

Hoover doesn’t have a punchable face, so he has that going for him.

Indiana will not win a Natty with Hoover--he's not good enough. It's too bad because their D-line and receivers are elite enough to compete for one. I want the BIG to do well in the playoffs, but unless the Ohio State QB situation is good enough, the 3 year streak looks like it will end. UCLA may win a game or two if they get in as their running game is very good. Iowa would be a pain to someone if they got in but they can't win it all.

The BIG has had great momentum the last few years and changed the narrative of the conference, especially versus the SEC. I wish it could continue. The only thing going for the BIG is the physicality of the league--that may show up in the playoffs.

Please Lord, not the SEC or Notre Dame (sorry Lord) to win it all. But I fear that's where we are headed.

I literally just posted this in a different thread, but this is the worst of the three portals qbs for Cignetti. This guy looks very average out there. Similar to Becht, the lights seem to be a little too bright for him on this stage.

As Jimmy Johnson once said and still holds true... It's not the X's and O's it's the Jimmy and Joe's if you want to win. Any scheme can be successful when you have top notch talent

This makes him look like more of a genius. He’s got a top ten team with an average player at the most important position on the team.
When he hand picked the QB that's a tough sell in year 3 of a program
They struggled with Nebraska, Northwestern and Michigan--impressed they found ways to win and Northwestern's a legit top 20-30 team but genius coaches typically don't struggling against a team like Nebraska in particular.
We'll see how they finish they year--pretty easy schedule the rest of the way. USC and Minnesota are their biggest challenges.

In contrast - Bum Phillips on Don Shula:

"He can take his'n and beat your'n, and take your'n and beat his'n."

Actually I think someone said that about Bear Bryant.
Yes. It was Bum Phillips (referring to both Bryant and Shula over the years), who worked for Bryant. That said, back then Bama had over 100 kids on scholarship just to keep them off other rosters. Your'n was never gonna be better than his'n.

But he doesn’t. Winners with winning coaches find ways to win while others blow 17 point leads in a homecoming game.
Right--just like he's not undefeated as MtNittany was saying they "could" me
What does MC have to do with this discussion? Did someone say MC was a better coach?
