BYU has a great coach. Frost is way better than Schiano. That game was classic college kids. Massive win followed by huge let down.

I’m sorry, but who won?
They won but Frost made some poor decisions at the end… not kicking the FG to go up 27-24 and getting stuffed on 4th and 1 instead. His qb spiked the ball on first down lol.

Needed an awful roughing the kicker call too.

So he gets credit to have then competing the whole game but there were some bad things they did at the end and a fortunate call that really helped them.

I think you’re missing my point…. which is about the fact that NIL isn’t everything, coaching ******* matters.

I completely agree. My point is that for the last two years, a couple of posters, particularly one, has told us that NIL is everything. Which it clearly is not.
Foolish to think NIL doesn't play a role. Just look at Miami -- before NIL no one would claim that Cristobal was some great coach. I suspect the Mormons have BYU well funded. UCF probably around where we are. Clearly the ROI on Rutgers NIL/revenue sharing has been poor, combined with so-so coaching. The overall talent eval is bad. They really need some GM type of person with a good eye for talent associated with the program. I mean, how can they spend that amount of money and be this disjointed.

Watching the end of the game my thought was qb's matter. That kid was better than anything I have ever seen at RU.

Umm, Rutgers has a General Manager in charge of talent evaluation. I believe he came from Baylor. Stop saying we need one; we just need one that doesn't suck.

Get a good coach, spent the same amount of $$$ and you will see changes. GS act is outdated, too set in his way, never been a good game day coach, can't recruit ( we need a dual threat QB), he talks a big game but carries a little stick. He talks the talk but can't walk the walk. Time for a change, give him some custom silver and his walking papers.

BYU BEATS ND….UCF beats BYU….how is this possible??!!!
There was an emotional factor as well. BYU beats Notre Dame in Provo when ESPN Game Day is there, which generated a lot of excitement around the BYU program. Next week they travel to Orlando after a huge win and they have a let down and lose. This is something that isn't uncommon in college sports. For example, Georgia gets their first regular season win against Alabama under Kirby Smart (previously 0-3 previously in the regular season) two weeks ago. Smart's only 2 wins against Alabama came in the rematch (2021 lost the SEC Championship and won the National Championship against Alabama and lost in Athens and won the SEC Championship against Alabama last year). After the big win in Tuscaloosa they come home and lay an egg against Auburn and lose.

Two things can be true.

It can be true that frost didn’t coach his best game, but also be true that he took a group of inferior athletes and put them in position to pull an upset.

Very few coaches bat 100% on every single thing: recruiting, player development, game planning, game day management but if you do enough of these things better than the other guy, you have a chance to win games against peer programs and pull an upset.

The Scott Frost UCF-Nebraska-UCF saga along with Gus Malzahn's tenure at UCF post-Auburn is an interesting tale.

Frost had UCF at 13-0 in his second year at UCF in 2017. Nebraska jumped at him, and the fare-haired QB bombed badly at Nebraska.

Meanwhile, 68-35/39-27 was not good enough for Coach Malzahn and boosters at Auburn. He took over UCF in 2021 after Josh Heupel kept UCF rolling, but when UCF moved to the Big 12, Malzahn went 4-8/2-7 in year 2, and resigned to be OC at Florida State.

Frost is back at UCF in 2025, going 5-7/2-7 in his first year. Will he return them to their past glory, pre-Big 12 days?

One would have thought that Malzahn would have killed it at UCF, but he did not. You never know.

We actually have two apparently. One of Schianos long time lackeys also plays a role.

It’s all Schiano though. He’s decides everything.
