Zero P4 QBs in the current room.

Literally every QB GS2.0 has brought in has been non-P4 quality except AK and we only got him because of his past relationship with Kirk.

QB, TE, LB rooms have been awful.

OL and DL pretty bad.

DB average at best

WR and RB have been good enough to win games
Yup not much for a new coach to work with. This is going to have to be a 50 to 60 maybe even 70 player turnover. The cupboard is bare. A lot of guys need to be given their walking papers and find a paycheck elsewhere.

The thing is 35-45 new players on the roster per season is the norm. Between high school (should not be a priority) and the portal the roster should be infused yearly with 40 new players.

All starts with the coach. Schiano doesn’t develop QBs
Arguably, he may even inhibit their proper development with the hyper fixation of not turning the ball over. AK was developed 3 years somewhere else and that may actually have been a good thing, having a foundation built elsewhere first.

eventually, this becomes a circular issue because when you don’t have a reputation to develop a position, you are going to struggle to recruit it and even paying a ‘tax’ may not be good enough.

Analytics show that trying to score can produce turnovers.

Contrary to popular opinion I think the Duff/Strong/AK triumvirate could have been better. There was only 12 TDs between them and all 5 of Strong's were in just two games. I'm not blaming the players.
Yep. Realistically they underperformed for their talent level. And I say that with the utmost respect.

What popular opinion? We ran a risk averse offense other than throwing downfield. Popular opinion should be that the offense easily could have scored more.

Yes, this is where people don’t recognize Schiano’s brilliance. The ball is the game and minimizing turnover risk to the nth degree even when losing is statistically the best strategy to blowout wins. He should get an extension.

Duff is about as good a red zone WR as you could have. A 6' 6" 225 lb player who makes better one handed catches than a lot of WRs make using two. He should have had 12 TDs or more by himself

Again, we have no P4 QB who is accurate. All throws were behind him or over the goal post.

Yep and we refuse to utilize the height advantage he has in the red zone.

Oregon's RU game ,preview blog, mentioned how odd it was that RU moved well in midfield and then couldn't score TDs in the red zone. That's not a rare thing either since its a trait of RU's offense and also Minnesota's where Fleck runs the same slop.

Of course Oregon stomped RU and AK had his worst game with 32% completion rate and 2 INTs and O TDs.

Probably the biggest indictment of the staff. It’s unbelievable the couldn’t get someone to get KJ the ball on the regular.

Dylan shows signs but is very indecisive.
And that loser Schiano selected them all!

Lonergan is barely serviceable, and would be at best a backup anywhere else

The mistake, clearly (coaching), was thinking AJ was anywhere near ready to compete for QB1. We went out and purchased an insurance policy in Lonergan whose floor was at least having been a starter on another bad team. He was intentionally not planned as a high upside guy because it was framed to be a QB competition. But look - there’s no way it was ever close. It was on Greg and staff to recognize that AJ needed to be recruited over this summer to the full extent.

No high upside QB would consider Rutgers. How did NW attract Chiles? Chip Kelly. What transfer QB would choose a school that has been a QB graveyard for 20 years except for Teel and Athan? It took Savage leaving Rutgers to realize his full potential.

I disagree. 1) Money talks - if we prioritized funding for a clear QB1 we could’ve gotten someone better. 2) our last QB was just drafted. 3) playing with Duff as a target also a big incentive.

Clearly - we wanted to give AJ the chance to earn the spot. It backfired. Not, of course, the reason we lost to UMass.

Same mentality that kept GW on roster when it was clear to many he never had it in him to be a good QB. They wasted time and resources and wins on his lack of development.

There are only 4/5 Power 4 players on the entire roster! Thank goodness he’s gone. Bad coach bad guy

I think we have more. We have at least 4-5 just WR/RB. Maybe a couple DBs, Asomoah, our P and PK…but still at most 20% of our roster is B1G capable
