No, because they bout a better transfer class. We have an uphill battle, but have an opportunity, nonetheless, due to the high school kids like Duff we recruited.
LOL, another dumb response from the King of Knows Nothing.

Go back to the Main Board where you openly advocate for candidates that have antisemitic and anti-capitalist beliefs.

So its not a "point of inflection"?

You should look up the terms you are using.
An inflection point means it's a deciding moment.

For example, if NW was a "point of inflection" that means if we win Schiano should stay. Lose and fired.

Basically this game means nothing to you.
As usual, Schiano has no minimal impact on the game.

Schiano defenders sure do like to repeat how seemingly useless he is in the outcome of games.

They hired better coaches. Chip Kelly alone is a better coach than the entire RU staff stacked up on top of each other.
Too bad Chip Kelly can’t play defensive back and Ricky Santos isn’t his quarterback. Northwestern is also missing their star tight end, which should improve our chances. They also struggle to sack the quarterback. They beat MSU 24-21, so we’ll have our shot. Lonergan has to have a good game.

Northwestern is ranked. This would be our first ranked win in a long time.
Indiana was also ranked. YOU said that game was going to be the start to running the table, you even laid out how RU was going to beat Indiana. After the inevitable blowout, YOU suddenly discovered that RU's "bargain bin" roster didn't measure up to a then undefeated national champion, because of NIL.

I suspect that if Northwestern blows RU out, you will say that RU's roster didn't measure up because of Northwestern's rich alumni, great facilities, and amazing fieldhouse. You will say that RU lost because of their "bargain bin" roster and that Schiano shouldn't be expected to "turn chicken sh#t into chicken salad." Then you will say that the fans need to "pony up."

So if I'm following your twisted logic, RU has enough talent to beat anyone, but when they lose, it's because the "bargain bin" talent is inadequate, and the fans need to pony up for a fieldhouse and NIL. Do I have it right?

there’s nothing twisted about it. Talent is what wins most college football games. Coaching is what wins most NFL games, because the NFL has something called the draft, which equalizes talent. Coaching only comes into play when talent is similar, like in the Ohio State vs Texas game, or in playoff games, like last years National Championship game.

Go back to the Indiana game and you will see that Rutgers lost its matchups in the trenches. Even the best coaching cannot overcome that. But you want to believe otherwise. So Let’s cut to the chase and stop the BS. You want to believe that it’s possible to win more without more financial support, because you don’t want to donate. And you expect a new coach will magically transform our chickenshit talent into chicken salad. Despite 157 years of mostly adverse history, which says otherwise. Despite 157 years of mostly mediocre coaching candidate pools.

That’s really what this is all about. What you are not realizing is that our value proposition is vastly inferior to what the competition is offering. The campus aesthetic is probably among the worst in the country, among major Div IA schools. The facilities are among the worst in the big ten. The NIL support is 14th among 18 Big Ten teams. The contrast between Rutgers and Northwestern is significant. They just spent over $1B on a new stadium and Fieldhouse, and have more NIL support, which has allowed them to upgrade their talent.

The only real advantage we have is our location and Schiano’s salesmanship, which transcends what we offer. The best kids, whom Rutgers can land, don’t really come for Rutgers. They come to play for Greg Schiano. Thats why the best kid in our class will go somewhere else, if Schiano leaves.

Thats why the Brian Kelly’s won’t touch this job with a 100’ pole. Because it’s too much work to recruit, because we don’t offer as much as other schools.

When you take all this into consideration, it shouldn’t be hard to see why the best college football players avoid Rutgers like the plague. I once asked a highly rated recruit from New Jersey why he didn’t consider Rutgers. He flatly stated Rutgers wasn’t serious about success. He went on to a long NFL career, and ironically currently lives in New Jersey. At the time, it was hard for me to argue with his logic, knowing what i knew.

on paper, Northwestern should win. But paper doesn’t play games. Players play games. And because of Coach Schiano’s high school recruiting, landing players like Duff, we got a good opportunity today. But an opportunity is not a guarantee. We will do our best, and the chips will fall where they may.

My take on today's game...since I didn't see a "real" game prediction thread

I do think our offense does pretty well. We may even score 27+ I don't think offense is our problem.

Defense is still a huge problem but defense is not our biggest problem.

#1 - Seriously, it is coaching. Top to bottom.
#2 - Special teams. You cannot be a consistent winner without special teams. Bad enough that Greg has given up on 1/3 of a football team. But what was once his special weapon- has now become bad and we get no big plays on either side of the ball.
#3 - here it is- the defense. Even when they hold a team- they will give up that big play. When we have a team 3rd and 10+ - they have us right where they want us.

NWU 38 RU 28

I am going to watch this game because there is a little part of me that feels like Greg may pull one of these games out one day.

With the lack of talent on the defensive line, and little to no pass rush, no amount of coaching is going to improve our defensive outcomes. We have to outscore the competition. I’m hoping for a Mike Teel Pittsburgh 2008 type outcome. Pittsburgh was previously ranked #17.

You didn't know that Indiana was better in the trenches BEFORE you proclaimed that RU was going to beat them? Stevie Wonder knew that they were better in the trenches.

Why did RU lose to UMass and BC? They had more money. Are you honestly saying that bad coaching had NOTHING to do with those losses? Are you honestly saying that the losses to UCLA and Illinois in 2024 had NOTHING to do with coaching? The losses to Iowa and Minnesota in 2025 had NOTHING to do with coaching?

Why was Curt Cignetti able to turn the losingest program in college football into an undefeated National Champion in 2 years with a bunch of transfers from FCS and Division 2 schools? He didn't get lots of NIL money until he started winning. They had new facilities before he got there. Him and the coaches he brought with him from his multiple stops are the reason they started winning.

Highly regarded recruits don't come to RU because Schiano doesn't win enough. Too many WTF losses and too much underachieving. RU should have been 9-3 in 2024 and 8-4 in 2025.. The reason they weren't had nothing to do with money or the level of seriousness. It had everything to do with inadequate coaching.

Great story. Wanna know why NJ kids aren’t staying home anymore?

1) most of the state’s high school coaches can’t stand Greg

2) most of the high school football players in New Jersey simply do not wanna play for him

….it’s THAT simple.

The biggest reason kids are going elsewhere is kids are taking the bag and going elsewhere. Has Greg ruffled feathers? Of course he has. Had we had the biggest bag, kids Would make a beeline for Rutgers. But no. We have the smallest bag, worst campus, and crappy facilities. It’s amazing to get the results we do, and it’s only due to Schiano.

one of the states best players, Isaih Alvarez from Don Bosco, is coming to Rutgers. This is the caliber of kid we need to recruit to remain Big Ten competitive.

Harasmyiak knew what plays were coming based on his experience here, so he coached his defense accordingly. With the Left Tackle unable to block anyone, the quarterback was under pressure all night. Hard for any quarterback to succeed under the Circumstances.
Certainly the entire failure of that game does not lie with Lonergan but THAT is the whole point. The team was not prepared and out coached and that is on the same coaching staff you keep defending.

if its true that JH knew the plays, THAT is also on the coaching staff. If you have not changed the playbook since you left, then you would have anticipated JH would know the playbook and you would have to have a ‘Plan B’ in place in the event that you could not be successful through only execution. But would we have expected a head coach who has publicly said ‘deception is overrated’ and ‘ it’s not like we are trying to trick anybody out there’ and ‘we prefer a smaller playbook that we can execute well’ to come up with a ‘Plan B’?

Joe worked for Greg and his defense practiced against Kirk. His defense knew what was coming.
On the flip side UMass had a very good Offensive Coordinator who was coaching there for the first time. They also had a new qb who was the difference in the game. We didn’t know what was coming.
We are talking about a very highly paid Big Ten coaching staff, one of the highest in the country.

You are citing a ‘very good’ MAC OC as a reason why we lost??

And a ‘new QB’? You do know that that same program has been carved up by mobile QBs over and over mc regardless of whether they are ‘new’ or not?

Much of this complete nonsense. If you can’t accept the fact that NIL drives recruits decisions, then there’s nothing else for us to discuss because this is fundamental. Cignetti paid up for recruits who were exceptionally productive at their prior schools in ‘24. He negotiated the NIL pool when he first took the job and he is on record stating that Indiana provided much more than he asked for. This bought QB Kurtis Rourke who was a MAC MVP. This year, he paid $4M for Josh Hoover. Last year, he spent $2.6M on Mendoza.

Miami’s experience blows away your narrative. They are successful because they have the biggest bag, not because Mario Cristobal is some genius with X’s and O’s. Of course, having arguably the nicest campus and terrific facilities helps too.

The bottomline is, you need money to win in this conference because everyone else has money. MSU just got a $400M NIL donation. Maryland is going to increase their NIL commitment. These were two programs we could reliably beat in recent years. If we don’t increase our commitment, they are going to blow right by us.

He’s also on record saying he didn’t use all the NIL resources provided his first year. He is also on record as saying his roster expense for the championship was nowhere near the $40mm reported and closer to $15mm. And Michigan state did not receive a $400 mm NIL donation. Stop. But keep spreading falsehoods.

Cignetti didn't break the bank for the transfers from JMU in his first year. Every QB that Cignetti brought in got better in his program. Those players didn't succeed just because they got paid a lot of money. They succeeded because their coach KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. Indiana spent less than all the teams they beat in the playoffs last year., that includes Miami. That PROVES my narrative. Just throwing money around doesn't produce wins and player production. Coaching does. Michigan spent 4m on their QB and he's been benched because he stank. UCLA is on their second QB and they're 6-0. RU can't coach 2 QBs to not throw the ball to the other team.
