As a PG, he needs to look toiwards distributing the ball first and getting the ball to others FIRST, not shoot first. They're not going to respect him shooting from distance. They know he's looking to get into the paint.
He really needs to reset his playstyle for us to be the best we can be as a team. There is no room for egos on this team. Be confident, play confident, play smart, shut up and do your job. Once you have played well, and then followed that up with actually beating someone good in a game that counts, THEN you can make some low-key trash talk. At that point, you'll have earned that, at least.
When a true freshman comes out and outperforms you in the only two (exhibition) games you've played in as a team, you need to reassess your actions and adjust accordingly.
I still truly feel like we need Zoom to lead us. But he has to play and earn his playtime like anyone else. I have to think the coaches will work intently with him and we will see huge improvement immediately.
The preseason thoughts on Zoom-Wilkins was spot on so far.
Wilkins is good, but streaky. He's long, but slow laterally and isn't keeping smaller, quicker guards from getting past him, even allowing straight line drives to the rim. Having multiple 7 footers that can't really jump high won't be very successful against lapses like that.
Zoom is playing like all the critical people have said : He's a MID level SEC guard. Turnovers are a liability with him. And so far, they're right.
Assists and the A:TO ratio have been encouraging so far. Too many TO's to begin with, however. We've only "solved" the Turnover issue with Zoom not being on the floor. That solves NOTHING. It's only working around a HUGE PROBLEM.
We will only go as far as Zoom and Wilkins can take us, with Williams as a great piece coming off the bench. If we have to move Williams to a starting role, then I hope and pray Zoom can cope with it and perform well off the bench.
Well, we shall see how it all goes. I'm here, all in, but concerned. Let's clean things up
Peace !
