Looking ahead to Friday - Wake has been successfully tapping into the talent pool from South Africa. I am sure it is no coincidence as their assistant coach Piete Coetzee-Turner hails from South Africa. She is also one of the countries best FH players they have produced. Phume last year really impressed me, and again this year with another first year striker who is quite talented. While we’re on the South Africa topic - it does feel like a bit of a miss on our part with our own connections to South Africa in coach Garyn Berry (and of course before that we had Grant Fulton). It’s been many years since we’ve had a player from South Africa. I believe our last player from those neck of the woods was Sam Travers out of Zimbabwe, graduated in 2014.

Wake has 12 internationals on roster. I guess I fell asleep at the wheel these last few years, as it seems like every team is just loading up with the internationals. I have a feeling if UNC had this many on roster there would be an uproar…

Friday is going to be a dog fight. I expect a high scoring affair with a lot of emotion. Hopefully everyone stays composed and doesn’t get hit with any silly greens or yellows.

Let’s hope the team is training hard and the staff comes up with a great game plan. Goooo Heels

If I remember correctly, last year the referees cheated us out of a win at their place. There were a few goals called back or something. I hope our players remember this and use this to motivate them this Friday. We cannot afford to come out being disengaged with poor body language. The coaching staff must instill in them how important this game is. Go Heels!

At the break, Terps lead host Northwestern 2-1.
(Catch it on the Big 10 Network.)
Still very much either side's game to win.
Cat's OBC scores from field play.
Maryland's short game notches 2 goals on 3 APC's.
Officiating on balance, IMO, fair and not intrusive.
So, pinch your noise, turn the sound down and enjoy two despised teams play field hockey well.

NW is too fast, quick and physical for the Terps and come backs in the 4th period with 3 goals to defeat MU 4-2.
OBC has a hat trick and Kokinis puts the biscuit in the basket for the 4th goal.
Neither team scored in the 3rd frame.
Maryland picked up a yellow card early in the 4th and the Cats pounced on the player down situation and pushed their game into an even higher gear. They made the Terp's play look sloppy to the tune of three goals.

I do like Maryland. I do not have a problem with them. I just hope the referees do not cheat them out of this game like in lacrosse last year. For some reason, the referees love NW in both lacrosse and field hockey. They seem to get the calls to go in their favor.

WF's corners all came in a single string and resulted in most of tehir shots.

3rd quarter going poorly. they come in fast and tie it up in 1 min, then take the lead on a PC with 2:29 left Q3. need to gather dome momentum.

WF is entering the circle to easily when they get close. need better perimeter defense.

3-3 Q4 with 7:30 remaining

Heck is willing us to the finish line by earning corners

Total BS on that upgraded PC. We gave the 5 meters

... and WF scores on it 3-4 with only 3 min remaining.

WF has scored on 3 of 6 corners, 4 were in a string, so really they have scored every time they earned a corner.

This program on the decline. Can't even win home games. Next year looks even worse.
I disagree UNCH. You are being to critical on EM and her staff. This is the first time that one of her teams that she has coached is struggling. She deserves to get a pass for this season. This team is relatively young. It was not like Heck, Sietske, and Mendez played at the very beginning of the season. They had to sit out and wait for the court ruling to see whether or not they would be allowed to play this season. We all know that they would have not lost to Iowa, Michigan, Old Dominion, and VA if these three players would have been able to play. Technically they have only lost 2 games since these three players have played. This is a down year right now. No team or program can stay on top forever without having a down year. They can still make it to the big dance. They have to continue to work, play hard, and win the rest of the games that are left for them to play. These young women are not use to losing like this, trust me when I say this. They are use to winning. The season is not over yet. This will help to motivate the players that will be returning next year once the season is over, which I hope is not soon but later. Go Heels!

How can anyone say next year looks even worse when they don’t know what the roster looks like?

Women’s soccer had one last year and we know how they’re doing now.

The program has two top 10 players coming in next fall (had 3 this year). A down year doesn’t signal a declining program.

If you’re out on a team, cool. Don’t be back when they’re up again.

You can be frustrated without making outlandish comments.

UNCH has made comments in the past that alude to the fact that they are solely a surface fan. They don’t look beyond results. Don’t give them too much attention.

Another game that slipped through our fingers. Seems to be the recurring theme of the season, which is especially painful as a fan - and I’m sure even more painful as a member of the program. I feel for them all. At this point, I am not sure what we can do to turn this around (other than the obvious). It just feels like things will not go right for us not matter what they put out on the field.

These kids and staff work hard, I do not doubt that all. We just can’t catch a break. Which is also a recurring theme of the season.

Today just felt like a bad break. I felt like we did a good job passing and defensively. We held them below their average shots. Just couldn’t stop those corners.

The last one shouldn’t have happened anyway.

Here’s to hoping we win the ACCT.

The loss hurts.
I am still not over the men's BB loss to WFU on Jan 21,1982 (for the sake of brevity, please fill in the blanks).
But, if you would allow me to take one second and congratulate our in state rival, Wake Forest Daemon Deacons.
They played together, smart, respectfully and well, and one goal better.
Chin up; we will return.
Go Heels.

I second that and totally agree with you.
