We are on the ground now on ASU campus in Tempe. My oh my, I wish I knew about this school when I applied to colleges. What a spectacular campus and surrounding area.
first school to impose a ban on bikinis for undergrads due to professors complaining they could not concentrate! lol

reading through this it's just abundantly clear why Rutgers needs a massive push to market and change perception better. There are people in that whole thread that legitimately think Rutgers is a community college and the like. just wow
Nah, just a bunch of haters that need to put RU down because they sent their kids to lesser schools.

you don't think Rutgers has an image/marketing/perception problem?
No, I never hear people talking down about RU education. A lot of parents try to justify why their kids are not going to RU and feel the need to put down RU (mostly on the campus). I’m 0-2 so far but don’t feel the need to justify anything to people. My kids made a choice and I supported it.

education is just once facet of the problem and the education has always been well regarded. But make zero mistake here, we absolutely have a perception problem.

I'm going 0-2 for here but by choice. My kids were raised at Rutgers, oldest had literally zero interest in the school though the youngest is less anti RU than the older. I prefer he goes away and has a better experience overall.
Two average schools but the girls at ASU are far better. If you like hot babes that is.
UA is better but for the girls, it's hard to find better. Both campuses are loaded with jaw dropping hotties

I think the issue is geography. Good portion of NJ residences live with in 60 mile radius. The only offset is $ and education.

Spent a night out in old town Scottsdale with the college crowd a few months ago. Never seen anything like it. Another conference out there this week, will have to check it out again to make sure it wasn’t just a one time thing

Rutgers is 15 for public universities.
The comparison was between ASU and UofA. And overall ranking means little to students who know what they want to major in, such as engineering. ASU is far ahead of Rutgers in engineering and gets a lot of industry research money. If people are going to chirp, facts matter. And Rutgers campuses are a dump compared to many others.

brother, I have always defended Rutgers in this regard but my last visit was the first time I saw it completely differently. I left saying 'no fking way' do I want my kid here. Great school, great opportunities, but horrible overall campus footprint, look, feel, and experience compared to many other peer schools. First time I ever felt that way and it's bothersome because I love the school so very much. I truly believe that my experience was much different than the kids today.

years ago there was talk of cutting off roads, adding grass and what not and not sure whey they didnt' on college Ave.

Changing the real estate footprint is not possible however changing the feel is. Simple stuff like better landscaping. Bigger things like the new College Ave quad, which was designed in 2015 and credible word on street is Tate says he is aiming at 2041 to do the 2030 plan from 2015.

Unacceptable.

incorrect, they could absolutely change the footprint and upgrade areas. I've seen the plan in the 90s, lots of green added and streets removed.

is it really? had no idea and I recognize times change but honestly, had no idea.
Signs outside the Engineering building . Up there with MIT and Purdue. Smart advertising. Mill St, the main road has the tram running through city. Rutgers should do something similar up George St to connect Cook and College Ave

Yet, again, as I always say in these threads, these South-loving NJ families mysteriously bypass Vandy, Emory, UF, UGA, Texas...and end up at Bama or USCe.

Seems like Biff and Olivia probably are not getting into RU in the first place.

That is parochially hilarious. ASU and UofA are tied at 58 for top public Universities. ASU is 34 in Engineering, while UofA and Rutgers are 68.

You like to pick out one program and extrapolate. ASU is always a punchline. No one is saying it's a top 50 law school as is U of A, even though they are. Overall, neither is very prestigious.

At least the logic there- a NJ parent, but probably more CA parents, whose kids don't get into the state school and want to have fun. If you can trust your kid I get it.

And you very rarely hear of the NJ kids going 1-14. Oh but they want the weather so they don't go to Michigan. Their parents don't like CA politics. OK. So how about Texas, UF, GT? Nope.

It's always somewhere lower ranked, usually by a lot. And then we're supposed to believe they really got a lot of money, and also actually got into RU, and at 17 dedicated themselves to underwater basketweaving or whatever.

The campuses are in much better shape and much better than 90s when you were there. We suffer from a lack of $$ and poor leadership from the BOGs and administration, as the campuses could be so much better.

fair and probably true and it may be I look at much more acutely now as now it's about my son and not my decisions as an intemperant youth.
