In 2026 only 1 Private School won a hoops title. Marist, ESL, Peoria Manual, and Marshall were the Champs.
Also if you look back on last 10 seasons that there was a state championships, the bigger classes of 4A and 3A there have been 20 Champs, and only 5 from Private Schools total. Overall the publics have dominated over the years which is the point.
That's on par, above average actually when you look at how many privates vs. publics play sports. Of all memeber schools 15% are private in football and I'm sure it's in the same ballpark for other sports so if they won 25% of the last 20 basketball titles there above where they should be.

So the system should be optimized to perfectly match titles to the ratio of private to public? Should it also model for rural versus urban? North v. South? Asking for a friend.

Which town are you speaking of? Lena? Rochester? Byron? Maroa? All have been pretty successful since 2010 and have populations around 3,000. There are plenty of small towns that generate quality programs and have for many years and it usually comes down to the HC and the support those communities give those programs.

Why can't QND in a town of 38,000 and a 30 mile radius compete at the same level as IC or Montini? Both are just a few thousand more people than Quincy?
I meant Rochester, who plays in 4A predominantly, where QND has been most their playoff existence in this century... as has Mater Dei, Althoff has been around, BCC, Alleman, PND, etc. I used the best example I could think of. Rochester is easily the cream of that crop.

I could maybe get on board with this proposal if it were to limit CCL or Suburban Catholic conference teams only. The rest of us aren't anyone's problem. Our enrollments are also dropping in many areas. Our winning percentages and trips to the semi's equal that of plenty of public schools out there. We'd love to make a title game as much as the rest of the state now and again, or ever in QND's case. This proposal only hurts the majority of private school programs who don't ever consistently make the semi's or title games in this sport. Much like with the multiplier, these sweeping proposals and actions always lump all private/NB schools together. Again, for rules put in place by the same association that has done nothing but punish us at every level and sport for existing in the manner they allowed to begin with. Yet we have to sit and listen about "fairness" from the public sector on the same topic. Fair is fair, this proposal is not, unless you're a public school who would otherwise dominate a class you're likely already crushing until the Semi's anyways..

Absolutely hilarious as always to see someone compare QND to Chicagoland privates. That part was funny dude... Apples to oranges per the usual from the public lot when it comes to comparing private schools across this state.

Just spit firing some facts... I'm not arguing that private schools haven't been overly dominant. Idk what they mean other than funneling all privates into 1 slot per class for the semi's is absolutely dumb as **** and only hurts the majority of private programs trying to make a state run like the rest of you...

64/192 championships in all classes since 2001 have been contested at the semi level by all public schools.
Only once that I can find has the opposite happened... 5A (2023)
We do see years more frequently with multiple NB's in the semi's... 53 times since 2001.
22 of those resulted in private v. private finals.
6 times in 4A
11 times in 5A
2 times in 6A
1 time in 7A
2 times in 8A

How many private schools play 11-man football? I honestly don't know the number... 50ish?

Since 2001 also... 59 of the 77 titles won by privates are from these programs. 10 of them... and 1 doesn't exist anymore.

***You'll note only 2 of these programs exist outside the general Chicagoland area

But let's take this one step further... of the 192 state titles contested for since 2001...
75 of the 118 times a state title has been contested by at least 1 private school, it's been one of the 10 programs listed above.

Of the remaining 43 games not accounted for there... 8 of them were by unique one-time participants in the state title game.
Carmel, Aquin, Mater Dei, Marian, Marmion, St. Laurence, Chicago Christian, and DePaul)

Of the remaining 35 private school titles remaining after that... it's all programs with 3 or less trips to state
Fenwick 2, St. Teresa 2, Bishop McNamara 2, Althoff 3, Brother Rice 2, Alleman 3, Aurora Christian 3, BCC 2, St. Francis 2, Marist 2, Boylan 2

And finally, private schools that have made the semi's but have never been to a state title game...
QND 2, Routt 1, Benet 3, Leo 1, Rockford Lutheran 1, St. Bede 1, PND 1, Ottawa Marquette 2, Niles ND 1, St. Ignatius 1, Chicago Hope 1, Wheaton Academy 1

By my count, 42 private schools have reached the semi-final round or better since 2001...

I've looked at the public side too, I will say you see some similar(ish) trends using just public schools as well. Obvious = there's more public schools. I'm aware. Again, I've said all along, remove the privates, you just create paths for dominant pubs that you'll all whine about then...
But alas... quickly glancing...

1A - 7 of the 24 years has been owned by Lena. Tuscola also accounts for 7 semi's, 6 title apps, 2 titles. Forreston, Camp Point, both with 5 semi's, 3 state title games.

2A - has been wide open given Maroa's failure to finish the job. However they've made 13 runs to the semi's in 24 years.

3A - Tolono and Byron account for 20 semi appearances and 11 state title game appearances in 24 years. Yet only 4 titles... yes we know.. ICC

4A - Rochester... 14 semi's, 10 title games, 9 titles, one year in 5A... they won it there too.

5A - No shocker why Morris fans want privates gone... 7 semi's, 4 title game appearances. Sycamore has to be fuming also...

6A - Dominant public school appearances by Cary-Grove, Lemont, Prairie Ridge, and ESL. These 4 account for 27 semi's, 19 title game apps, and 10 titles

7A - Batavia, Prospect, Lake Zurich, Glenbard West, and WWS account for 32 semi's (10 alone from Zurich) all with 5 or more, 18 title game apps, and 8 titles. ESL also has existed here, another 4 semi's and 2 titles in this class

8A - Maine South, LWE... 19 semi's, 13 title game apps, 7 titles...

Absolutely correct it's apples to oranges which is exactly my point. QND, BMD, STT are not IC, Montini, and Naz and should not be treated as such. QND fits in great in 3A and 4A, it's exactly where they should be. Same with STT in 2A.

I misread your tone. I apologize. Last time someone put QND in the same sentence they were trying to tell me we were the same. I admit I presumed the same from you.

Again, I get it, different rules exist for privates. Its just a catastrophic and lazy oversight if the IHSA lumps all privates into the same boat in any decision (like this proposal) that isn't complete separation for playoffs, imo. Too often in the past the entire lot of private schools have been punished more harshly for existing than actually winning at too high a clip. Yes I'm biased here, I'm a QND homer and we're on the outside looking in on the private dominance. But we are not the same, as you've stated, as Montini, JCA, any CCl or suburban Catholic program, nor even SHG, who we are now in a conference with.
