Here’s gem from last night
I'm an old man yelling at a cloud here, but I now find myself following the NBA, but not watching many/any games because of how boring it is ... because they've allowed so many things to fester and get worse ... it started with allowing everyone to carry the ball when dribbling ... this allowed so much more maneuverability that folks originally thought made the game more exciting ... fancier moves, more athletic play, etc. ... then they cemented the gather step in the rules (twice, really) ... and now it's just people running around the court doing stuff, and the dribble is almost an inconvenience that they may or may not choose to do.
There was a preseason play where Hugo Gonzalez picked up his dribble around the 3 point line, made two steps to the foul line, then did a bunch of little shuffle steps, then one big step to leap up and dunk it. Rather than a double dribble, it was a double travel. But it was allowed.
You see in that Lamelo clip, both times he handles the ball, his hand is under the ball ... so he can carry the thing while he does his "gather" and so, it's almost unlimited steps without having to dribble.
Get rid of the 3 point line, move the hoop up to 11 feet, don't allow carries or gathers, and stop randomly calling/not calling fouls based on who the players are (or are not). And get off my lawn
