I’ve assumed Morton’s is a MCL associated injury. The good news could be no surgery needed and he will be back sooner than expected.

As for Kam, he would be back already if he didn’t come back early last year. He aggravated it in the offseason and had to get it cleaned up again. He will be fine though. It will always be some pain but that’s part of basketball and feet. Lot of players have lingering foot stuff. It’s manageable though.

The recovery time on Kam's stuff has seemed a little surprising, like almost surprising to the point that you could think his injury might be a career changing injury, the kind of injury that lingers forever.
If bringing him back early caused all this then that was a bad decision. Love that the kid wanted to return and help us last spring but that team wasn't going on a run given all the issues.

So making a sweet 16 gets a year 4? Cringe. UK basketball is dead.
Never understood the fascination with a Sweet 16 finish. Assume you are a 4 seed, that means you play a cupcake in game 1 and a 5 seed(or 12 seed) in the second game. You win that game (likely favored going into it) but lose the 3rd game. Why is that even considered an accomplishment for a major program? It's not really a failure, but not something to be happy about either.

I thought that was mostly a problem for WNBA players.

That's a little too simple of an approach. Say we have a regular season like last year and get a 7 seed; pick up an upset and get to the S16. I do not think that is enough. We need to see consistency throughout the regular season and have that lead into the tournaments.
"If A then B" does not imply "If Not A then Not B."

A sweet 16 is the minimum expectation. Anything less is a bad result.

What does that mean about Morton??

Well for one thing, it means Jack Pilgrim and Jeff Drummond have a critical disagreement about what Pope even said. If Drummond is right and Morton really is, “a little bit away from returning” then it sounds like we’re probably in more or less good shape. There’s still room to worry about what he means by “a little bit.” He has kind of a track record of big time stringing us along in situations like this. But at least on its face his claim sounds pretty good.

Otoh if Jack Pilgrim is the one who is right—if Pope instead really said Morton is “still a little bit away from the journey”…..then who knows wtf that could mean but it sounds like it would mean he hasn’t even started to rehab yet. Like we’re looking at a freaking Quaintance situation all over again.

So let’s all pray Drummond has the better pair of ears.

Hopefully we’re not content with finishing 9th anymore because Mitch isn’t in charge. That guy….
People it had. Nothing to do with that. He was getting a 3rd year no matter what you guys think. I and others have all said this and also said if the results are similar he should not be here for year 4. But when we do you call us pope pumpers and not real fans. Maybe not you seccats04, but others have repeatedly. I just happen to respond to your post. Year 3 was always a given to any rational realistic person. Year 4 is not. Put up or shut up time for Pope.

Zero chance this team makes a S16… Probably less than zero! Pope has a better chance to miss the tournament, than he does making the S16 with this group.
Since we’ll probably be a 6-9 seed in the tournament, Pope will have to beat a higher seeded team in the second round. Dude only got to the Sweet 16 his first season due to an unusually favorable bracket and high seed despite having 11-losses.

“Less than zero.” The president used that term the other night. By definition, a chance expresses a probability. Probability run from 0% to 100%. They cannot go below 0 and they cannot go above 100.

He benefitted from how hard the SEC was that season, in regards to that seed.
So UK benefits from how hard the sec was that year, but that had nothing to do with the losses... according to you. Clue, it was either hard league or it wasn't. You can't pick and choose when to apply. More of your insane logic... 😂

Agree. He’ll need to play through some pain but I’m sure he can manage for what he can get paid to play. In my opinion, when he’s healthy and buckles down on defense, he’s a game changer for us. He plays so hard and it’s contagious, plus he’s gotten better on the offensive end as well. Can’t wait to get him back as I think he can really make us better.

Think that’s good news regarding Morton. I said in another thread that it seems very likely that it wasn’t his ACL, which would be a season ender.

No, I get it. Pope was always getting a year 3. But Mitch should've never hired him in the first place because nothing on his resume qualified him to be UK's HC. Then Mitch extends his contract for going to a S16. Utterly ridiculous. These stupid contract extensions are how we ended up in the Cal and Stoops situations, where we were financially stuck with them. Cal I kind of understood because other big schools wanted him and Cal loves money more than anything else. But Stoops was a bonehead move because nobody else was coming after him. TxAM almost did until their fans rightfully revolted. He was a .500 coach.

I was just saying Mitch was a cancer to our football and basketball programs. Glad he's gone.
