Without looking it up, I don’t remember who we played on Oct 20,2018. It evidently didn’t go well.

One of my post, “Fitz couldn’t score with a hungry hooker!”

I’m sorry Fitz, that was way out of line.
Joe just forgot his coaching pills that week, that's all it was - cut him some slack.

We should have been undefeated going down there and that game a top 10 match up...making the bed shitting even more infuriating.

Don't blame Fitz. Blame Joe Moorehead for trying to run an RPO with one of the all time SEC leading QB Rushers... it was painful to watch the stupidity unfold.

Moorhead's stupidity is still unfolding. His record is now 14-41 at Akron in his 5th season. But the stupidity is rampant apparently because they haven't fired him, yet. And there were those that said we didn't need to fire him...............

I can’t imagine Akron has a huge budget to pay buyouts for ****** coaches. That’s why they haven’t fired him. That and athletics is probably more a financial burden to them in the NIL era.

Hard to believe he had a contract for this long, surely they haven't upped it any w/ only 14 wins in 5 seasons.

LSU 19, MSU 3 in Baton Rouge

Saturday doesn't sound that bad anymore does it?
That was a particularly rough game for Slomo.

MSU kept turning the ball over and giving LSU a short field. and the MSU defense kept ringing the bell and forcing field goals. They had one TD and it was an INT return down to the 3 as I remember, and it was still a battle for them to score.

They had one TD drive that night: 3 plays for 3 yards.

And the way we started that game off was vintage Joe Moorhead:

First play from scrimmage (1st and 10): False start
Second play from scrimmage (1st and 15): False start
Third play from scrimmage: (1st and 20): Two yard rush
Fourth play from scrimmage (2nd and 18): Eight yard check down
Fifth play from scrimmage (3rd and 10): INT ran back to the 3 yard line.

Arguably the best defense in the history of the program in 2018, and it was absolutely wasted.

I have said it, and will say it again, I will never forgive Slowmo for wasting that defense. Numbers wise that is one of the best defenses in college football history that got pissed away by some idiot.

That and what could have been had Mullen stayed one more year. There were three teams that had 4 players drafted in the top 50. Bama, Georgia and MSU. Two of those played for the national championship. The other finished the regular season 8-4..

SloMo has a lot of the blame (I mean he did the same shlt against Kentucky in the rain), but Cohen shoulders most of the blame. I admire his 'plan' to turn us into a program that leaned on the pass more, but damn, why pick that time to do it?

The correct hire would have been just promoting Grantham. He was the one who initially turned around the defense. And when things are going well and a coach leaves, you promote from within. Had it gone wrong, you fire him easily and nobody cares. Had he proven to be OK, start talking about changing the offense at that point.

Heck we got half of the equation right when we promoted Arnett, but of course, he didn't just let the offensive guys do their thing for that year. That was similar mind-numbing stupidity watching 2023 play out and honestly what broke my fanboy-ism.

I was thinking about this the other day. Has there been one coach from the last 30 years that we fired and ended up regretting it?

And by regret, I mean due to them going on to find coaching success elsewhere

Pre-NIL. I thought he needed time to roster build for some amount of program stability. Then he pitched a kick rocks fit and I was ready to fire him immediately. You can't prove a negative, but it's beginning to shape up that I may have been wrong that he could build a roster and improve.***

Dan Mullen is the only coach since Darrell Royal to leave Mississippi State for another head coaching job. In fact, Mullen and Moorhead are the only Mississippi State head football coaches to ever take a college head coaching job again after leaving Mississippi State since Royal. We have been a coaching graveyard.

Some of that was just bad decisions but I do wonder about the overall culture that has built on itself over the years. Let's start with the modern era of post-integration:

- Bob Tyler: I wasn't around then, so I don't know what happened exactly, but appears he had success and we got holier than thou and got rid of him.
- Emory the Memory: Eh, he was fine, probably a justified firing so that's one graveyard.
- Rockey: Hiring a 40-year old who had never been a coordinator would be unthinkable these days.
- Jackie: No explanation needed, another graveyard, but he was also getting older.
- Croom: Another completely unjustified hire.
- Danny: We all know.
- Moorhead: Another completely idiotic hire.
- Leach: Talk about a play on words. This one just made me think MSU football was impossible.
- Arnett: The stupidity of his offensive decision knows no bounds, and probably wouldn't have happened had Cohen still been AD.
- Lebby: Will likely be another graveyard unless he rides Taylor into the sunset.

The correct hire in 2017 that probably would’ve been semi-realistic? Lane Kiffin coming off a 10 win year 1 at FAU

Good gosh, promoting a first-season defensive coordinator to head coach has to be one of the worst ideas I've ever heard, particularly when it's Todd Grantham, a man who already had the book written on him from his time at Georgia before he got to MSU in the first place.

Wow am I glad that didn't happen.

He was an 8-season successful defensive coordinator. And he would have kept the offense the same. 100% chance he wins more games than Slophead.

I’d have voted for Asparagus Boy over SloMo. That was our other finalist. Grantham doesn’t sound like too bad of an option.

I was at this one. Sat in the upper lower level endzone. That first series was right in my face.

That was also the game where I drunkenly shouted out in the middle of purple and gold, as I was climbing to my seat “My ticket didn’t say diabetic section”

I got trash thrown at me, a shoe and someone flung a baby drinking a flask.

But yeah, I was at 3-2 and all of the other fun fun fun ones in the mid 2000’s so my body was ready.

I remember sitting outside that outback bowl thinking we held Iowa to negative rushing yards, and somehow we lost 17. This can’t be real. Very similar to the feeling of watching the dive back in GT’s offense slice us up to the tune of, I think about 220 yards and 3 TDS? Something like that.

I was at a wedding watching it on my phone, after that first drive everybody huddled around me walked off and I put my phone up and just enjoyed the rest of the night.

The veracity of the opposing view should give you complete confidence in your position.
The general opinions of rank and file MSU fans has not exactly led to a ton of football success over the years. Just sayin'. And I've been a part of that group from time to time, not saying I'm special. But I did finally wake up.

Feel free to continue to boo the backup QB, question why we aren't running the ball more, etc. etc.
