I assume he thought he could recruit kids to Viator and turn them into a power?Guess it wasn't too smart to hang the RM kids out to dry like that
Or he figured out it wasn't for him. He has a family, maybe it was too much.I always thought it was odd he left RM for Viator. I'm assuming he was careful with his money and that shouldn't be a factor with him. Maybe he just wanted the ability to recruit.
Maybe he had another offer on the table
He was an assisstant coach at Fremd before he got the HC job at Rolling Meadows. Perhaps he's just not HC material. A punter can't necesarily have an implicit knowledge of all all phases of the gameMaybe he just wanted to try and see if he liked coaching. Could have been that he just wanted to coach and not deal with all the other stuff like administrators and parents.
Excuse me?when a public school applies itself, the privates can’t compete
Here we go….Excuse me?
So we are using the outlier as the standard? Here we go….
Public schools play with house money
when a public school takes pride and care in its sports programs
the privates can not compete
This thread is about St Viator
let’s use that as the example
So is Loyola good because New Trier doesn't apply itself? Is St. Francis good because Wheaton Warrenville South doesn't apply itself? Is IC good because York doesn't apply itself? Is Nazareth good because Lyons Township doesn't apply itself? Is Providence good because Lincoln-Way Central doesn't apply itself? These schools all have great football programs despite being in highly-desirable school districts. Yours is one of the most head-scratching takes I've ever seen on this board. Here we go….

Frankly, I would argue just the opposite. Other than Viator, is there any private school that would lose in football to the public school in whose boundaries it sits? I can't think of any. Here we go….

Baseball program has had some good runs, so it's not impossible to bring kids in.Heard rumors of this a few weeks ago. Viator's administration did not want to assist Gould in getting athletes into the building. With that said Viator is in a tough spot to recruit football players.
1. They sit in an affluent area but they also have some of the best public academic schools in the state surrounding them. You have parents paying over $15K a year in property taxes why send your kids to Viator when they can go to Hersey, Prospect, Fremd, Palatine and Barrington to name a few. If families are willing to send their kids to private school many times they will drive past Viator to send them to Loyola.
2. I will say they were one of the first schools to hire a strength coach and have a top end weight program. However, they dont have a stadium on campus and are batting with the Village of Arlington Heights to build that on campus currently.
3. If admin wants to be better at football they need to recruit better. Families have access to Arlington Heights on the Metra from Chicago to Harvard. They should be a football juggernaut. If rumors in AH are true they could hire a coach that could bring in athletes to SV very fast.
Marmion? Marian central? St Ed’s? Aurora Central?Frankly, I would argue just the opposite. Other than Viator, is there any private school that would lose in football to the public school in whose boundaries it sits? I can't think of any.
As out of touch and blind a post as it gets...Frankly, I would argue just the opposite. Other than Viator, is there any private school that would lose in football to the public school in whose boundaries it sits? I can't think of any.
I don't know how much this would have helped them. lol. Did you watch St. Viator at all?If only Izzy Abrams was still at SV.
Providence is in the Lincoln Way West district. I don't think they would lose to LWWMarmion? Marian central? St Ed’s? Aurora Central?
Whose attendance boundaries is Providence in? East? They would lose to east as well.
And why is that? The poster to whom I replied asserted that, when public schools care about their sports programs, private schools can't compete with them, citing St. Viator and Hersey as an example. To which I replied that, in nearly every other case, the opposite is true. Are you saying I'm wrong because you don't believe private schools have better football programs than their neighboring public schools, or are you saying I'm wrong because you don't believe these public schools put effort into their football programs?yours
Just read what you posted and my reply. And why is that? Other than St. Viator vs. Hersey, which I've already conceded, can you provide any examples?Just read what you posted and my reply.
"is there any private school that would lose in football to the public school in whose boundaries it sits? I can't think of any."
I think this statement is obviously absurd.
No, my argument is not within a 30-mile radius (and I don't know why you would glean that from anything I've written). My argument is the private school vs. the public school in whose district it sits. In other words, the public school that would be the most likely to pull football talent from it. For example, Loyola vs. New Trier, IC vs. York, Nazareth vs. LT, etc. I don't think I could've been much clearer on what I meant. For starters...this list is just for schools who aren't the best program in their own city. If I stretched it out to a 30 mile boundary (which I think is your argument) ...almost every private school would be on the list.

You’re missing the point. These aren’t the schools people are talking about. In the Chicago area I would bet it’s just marmion and aurora central. Maybe Marian central but not for long. I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing more from them in the next 2-3 years with the coaches they have there now.For starters...this list is just for schools who aren't the best program in their own city. I was going to say Marmion would beat East Aurora, but upon further review, it appears to be in the Batavia district, to which they'd certainly lose, so score one for the publics there. Being in New Lenox, I believe Providence would play either Central or West, and I think they would win either of those. I don't have a well-formed opinion on the others, although Aurora, Elgin, and Woodstock aren't known for strong public school football programs.Marmion? Marian central? St Ed’s? Aurora Central?

Wheaton Academy isn't in Wheaton; It's in West Chicago (known locally as We-Go), and We-Go isn't a football school.West Aurora would destroy every Aurora private.
St Ed’s couldn’t beat a girls flag football team.
Naz would not beat Lyons most years. Other way around.
Same with SF and WWS, IC/York.
Not sure who we-go is but Wheaton Academy ain’t beating WWS or WN

I couldn't disagree with you more on Nazareth, St. Francis, and IC. They're all substantially better football programs than their public counterparts. In the past decade, these are the number of times each team has played in week 14:
Immaculate Conception: 4
Nazareth: 6
St. Francis: 1
York: 1
Lyons: 0
Wheaton Warrenville South: 0
In fairness, the public schools play in larger classes which are typically more difficult, but if I'm a parent with the means to send my son with football aspirations to any school he and I want, and I have the choice of a perennial 4A title contender or an 8A school with a 50-50 chance of missing the playoffs, my choice is easy.
IC and York both played Nazareth this year, and IC's result was 38 points better. Not bad for a school one tenth the size!York has played in the 8a semi finals 3 years in row and also played in the finals. In 2023 IC was supposed to play York week 2 and backed out. They replaced the game with Naz who lost to York 42-13. LT and York have both made the playoffs every year since covid. In 2024 ICCP didn’t qualify for the playoffs. Is this your first year watching hs football?
Also WWS has made the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years. Not to mention they’ve won several state championships. It’s good to know that you and your hypothetical son would rather beat 3a farm instead of playing 8a schools.
