Exactly my point. So many posters here only "contribute" by mocking posts or correcting other posters grammatical errors. Maybe they should actually contribute something meaningful, or get a life.

Okay, I'll contribute something. In the US standing for the national anthem isn't compulsory because we aren't North Korea. In fact, protesting or taking symbolic stands and having the right or duty to do so is something a person can choose to do in this nation. As we are a nation that came into existence from acts of defiance.

Thanks for contributing something. Personally I'd prefer to honor the flag. My opposition is not so much a personal choice thing. Its when organizations (both teams) in this case are making statements, that's not a "personal choice".

Fans who don't usually watch the WNBA might be asking why the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream weren't on the court during the national anthem. The answer is simple: since becoming a WNBA franchise, the Valkyries have kept their pregame routine of going into the locker room for the anthem, while Atlanta has left the court before the anthem for the past several years.

While the WNBA rulebook states what should happen during the anthem, the league suspended those protocols years ago.

I agree. I believe the WNBA CBA requires that both teams be present and standing for the National Anthem.

There is a rule they're supposed to but in 2017 they suspended the protocol and never reinstated it.

Yeah. I just read this as well. Lots of chatter going on about the CBA and Rules.

I say just kick the Dream and Valkyries out of the Finals and give the title to the Fever. Problem solved. 🙂

Recently retired from a career in health care, the last 29 years in the Des Moines area. Clinic served the lower half of the population socioeconomically, so very diverse patient base. Met people from 48 of the 54 African nations; close to 120 of the world's countries.
I'm a little slow, so it took a few years to recognize the pattern and ask myself, 'Why are all these people here?' Many of their journeys
were costly and dangerous. Often I had time to ask them a bit about their story; a number of these folks seemed wary of sharing and I
sensed some of them felt guilty about being in the US because of previous criticisms. I'm sure at least some of them were here illegally.
I liked to say, 'Well, we're glad you're here' to somewhat ease their angst. Most would reply, 'We're very happy to be here'.

I have to admit I did have one man who said, 'I wish I had never come to America'. I had to ask why, and his response was, 'If I had stayed in
Somalia maybe my brother wouldn't have been killed'. A sobering statement if ever there was. Most of us have no idea how good we have it
here. The poverty line in the US is 30 times higher than in most of the world. Not 30 percent, but 30 times higher.

There's always room to debate policies and beliefs....we really need more of that. But you cannot argue against someone's true life experience.
Honestly, I apologize for starting this thread. For thinking as Americans we should still be proud to live here and support the flag. Just another mistake made by someone whose made a great many in 67+ years. I don't care who the POTUS is. Trump, Biden. Obama, whomever. It was never meant to support one side of anyone's political beliefs, but just to say I think these players are doing themselves a disservice and being disrespectful. Obviously they and many others here disagree.

They gave them an out, and said they can all go back to the locker room. So basically its another "rule" that's not really a "rule" in the W.

Anthem enforcers need to get a grip. Saw a guy swat the baseball cap off a guy in the row ahead of him while the anthem was playing at a Bears vs Vikings game. A fistfight ensued and enforcer got his arse kicked pretty good from what I could tell. Mind your own f’king business.

Hawkod,

Interesting perspective. I took multiple trips to Argentina. They are suppose to have the largest middle class in Sourh America. A far cry from our middle class. Great, hard working people. Leave the cities and folks are living in tin hovels. We visiting a plastics manufacturing facility in Indonesa, owned by a Gentleman from Singapore. High tech facility providing jobs to an impoverished area. They had just placed a hiring notice for 30 new positions, the line of applicants was a mile long.

Yes, we do have it very, very good. Maybe through my travels I have developed a greater appreciation for the US. Spent expats in Canada and UK, trust me, we were always glad to be back home.

If those young ladies had my global experiences, maybe they would be more appreciative.

Been retired for 9 years and am more ambivolant towards these matters. Heading out for the evening bite. Cheers!

A lot of these young ladies have spent their careers also playing overseas in the offseason.

Anthem enforcers are the same people that camp in the left lane because no one should be going faster than the speed limit,

It had to do with WNBA teams and the leagues OWN rules, which they follow , WHEN they want, and ignore when they don't. I had no intention of it being specifically political. My bad for adding this thread if it has to lead to more taking sides on what the president does, or does not do. I'll try to do better and only comment on things the group as a whole agrees with.
No you won't

While the WNBA requires all team personal to stand in a dignified manner during the playing of OUR national anthem, they are given an out because the league allows them to leave the floor, so as not to be present for the playing. This is a league "supposedly" with an image problem, and yet both teams leave the floor for the playing, while fans stand as a salute to OUR anthem. Lets get on the leagues biggest stage, and make a political statement. Super. Well done ladies
I haven't stood--and will not stand--for the anthem as long as a cruel, evil, egomaniac dictator is allowed to continue demolishing American democracy. I'm weird like that.
