Is Lebby about to repeat 2025?....

Look, I have been sending out feelers to some buddies about the game this Saturday and whether they planned on attending. All I am getting back is pretty much is if KT1 does not play any more then they will not be coming to games anymore. Sad but true. I told Mrs. Devil we are going regardless because the little hell spawn loves the kids' zone, but the level of apathy that is already setting in after the KT1 injury is amazing to me. But I get it why come to the show if the star attraction ain't out there. I do not think we have a chance in hell of a win on Saturday with no KT1.

The most likely way Kamario leaves is following Lebby.
Says who? Is KT here because he’s a lifelong MSU fan, because we’re paying him pretty well, or because of Lebby?

I would contend that, from everything I’ve read, it’s far more of #1 and #2 than it is #3.

If all 3 of them come back - we're a top 15 team entering next year with the Heisman trophy favorite and a high flying offense ready to go.

And if just one of them doesn’t come back (KT), we’re staring 4-5 wins in the face yet again. We’re pinning everything to the hopes of one great player. That’s not how you build a program.

The ultimate problem - the Lebby decision must be made before we know anything with certainty about what will happen with returning players. Carousel starts mid-late November. Portal is not open until January.

Remember also that Lebby is wrapping up Year 3 of a 5-year deal. So, it’s not only a matter of keep Lebby, or don’t. We basically have to fire him, or we have to extend him. Doing neither messes up everything with high school recruits in the next 2 classes. That adds complexity and also requires a multi-year commitment to Lebby after KT is already gone.

There is a scenario where we decide to keep Lebby, but K1 gets a godfather offer in the portal, and bolts anyway. That’s what I like to call “hell”.

There’s another scenario where we keep Lebby, and K1 returns, but only because we had to pay an absolutely exorbitant sum to lock him down. That puts our ceiling next year around the same as this year, even if our NIL fundraising skyrockets for 2027. It won’t help if all the additional money is just going to K1, and we have nothing left to bolster the OL/DL.

Continuity just for continuity’s sake is a very shortsighted and terrible idea. Under no circumstances can you say a 3rd year coach gets an automatic free pass for any and all 17-ups just because of how talented the Sophomore QB is. That’s absurd. Year 3, ya’ll.

I've been saying since last year, we are going to improve but not so much that the haters will be satisfied. So 7-5 is the record. He'll be able to say he's improved every year, which he has. 2027 is the year. Retain K1. Improve the lines. Win 8-10 games. Which still won't satisfy some. But this has been visible on the horizon for a while. It's his MO at this point.
The craziest part of this is that, but for K1's injury, the talk has been pretty robust that Lebby was ready to jump and bring K1 with him to another program like TCU. Now, with the injury, I think that K1 has the leverage to force max $$ from State and Lebby is stuck here (as we are with him) for another season. NIL era is bananas.

Quite frankly if I were KT and there was serious talk about firing Lebby right now I'd be con$idering leaving . I just don't think it's time for this conversation .....yet .
This is kind of dumb, isn't it? K1 committed to Arnett iirc and fell into Lebby's lap. Has nothing to do with either one of them.

ARE his X's and O's good, though?

We were 4-0 primarily because we had a QB who throws an incredible deep ball, and at least three track stars who are very good at catching those deep balls.

Yes, you need a scheme that gets those players into a 1 on 1 rundown. And sometimes Lebby's scheme works well with that.

But sometimes it looks awful. Particularly when we are backed up inside our own 20...or inside the opponents 20 and trying to score.

A good scheme wouldn't stutter like that. And it certainly would not need talent like KT in order to be successful.
Well he did recruit those receivers. And even though the qb was committed when we hired him he kept him & has built a good relationship with him. So with his players his offensive scheme works. Questions are recruiting outside of receivers & hiring assistant coaches. Those have really been problems.

I was strictly talking about his scheme, though, not his recruiting. And I don't think his scheme is all that reliable even with the right players

That is my fear as well. We extend the dumbest coach in P4 just to keep out generational talent at QB for 2027. The QB heads to Baton Rouge and we are stuck with Low IQ Libby captaining his short bus program for another year.

If that scenario plays out, nobody will be complaining. Well, I take that back, the folks who are obsessed with Ole Miss will be crying about them beating us 3 times in a row. But 7-5 with retention of the roster will get us hype going into 2027. 8-10 wins has us likely in the expanded playoff.
If Northern Miss beats us in 2026, it will be four in a row and six of the last seven.

Lebby put this on himself putting all of his marbles in one basket with Kamario as our only chance at QB #1 and he knew if KT got injured we'd be up **** creek without a paddle . That may cost him his job if KT can't come back very soon a get us a few more wins . Surely he could have found us a better QB out there for our #2 guy and it may cost him dearly .

Other teams dline and 2nd string
Injuries happen. He needs to do a better job of picking which backup players to play (Hill and Swann need more snaps) and he needs to do a better job of recruiting at least some semblance of depth.

I have been one that started the year bullish and feeling like Lebby could show significant improvement this year. I'm still not ready to throw in the towel, but my optimism took a massive hit watching the game last Saturday. I 100% expected a loss without KT and Fluff; however, I didn't expect to see everyone on the team lay down the way they did. Almost everyone played below the levels they played at the first four games. I've seen plenty of good coaches use situations like last Saturday to get the rest of the guys to rally and play above their heads. I remember a year where Bruce Pearl went in to Memphis with only like 7 players and most of his stars out, rallied the team, and upset Memphis.

Meant specifically Lebby, but yeah.

My general point is that we need to decouple success with Ole Miss. I get losing to them repeatedly sucks, but they've been a nationally relevant program. If we go 8-4 and lose to them, I will consider it a successful season.

And I'm no fan of Lenny. And I honestly think 8-4, or even 7-5, is going to be damn hard to come by.

We're actually a game ahead of where I expected us to be at this point. I hope we can knock off OU, Vandy, and Auburn, but based on what I saw Saturday that's a tall order.

Depends on who is healthy. If we get KT & Fluff back & healthy Saturday, those games are all winnable. Without them Vandy is winnable, but close to a toss up.
