OSU star qb Julian sayin is injured and out for year.
No croc tears for buckeyes but turns out hawks played OSU too early in season.
Their backup, true frosh fahey, is a 5'11" 206 lb 3 star from cali. He did not look ready vs IU.

OSU has a bye, then home vs USC,home vs oregon, at NW,at Nebraska, home vs Michigan.

Tough slate with frosh at qb.
Huge break for all these teams.
The BIG is wide open.
Keep winning, Hawkeyes!

You'd think tOSU could have bought a better backup QB with just their petty NIL ca$h....🤷‍♂️

Makes you wonder, if Iowa wins out, would they go to the B1G championship game? Only OSU and UCLA remain unbeaten. Both of their starting QBs are out for the season. Can either stay undefeated? I'd wager UCLA would be the first to lose, they've become one dimensional on offense. OSU has enough talent to carry them the rest of the way. Would it be possible to see an Iowa OSU rematch in the championship? Not sure how the tie breaker works if say, Iowa, Indiana, and UCLA are tied for second. Sure would be interesting to see how we'd handle them a second time, without their Heisman caliber QB...

Their offense was built around the passing game with a weak run game by Ohio State standards. It might be too late to retool that O line offense. They have two backup qbs Fahey is said to be an accurate passer so he’s getting the nod over St Clair 6-4 230 Who is athletic and can Run.

QB2 may become the most important position in the pay-for-play era. It was already difficult to recruit guys out of HS when QB1 was a younger guy and now it's difficult to get guys out of the portal if they don't think they will be QB1. The Hawks learned that lesson early when trying to fill in behind Cade. Oregon became an outlier when they signed Raiola.

their backup looked terrible. osu could conceivably lose a lot of games with that schedule. reminds me of 2021 psu who spiraled after losing their starting qb at about exactly this point that season. from #3 to irrelevance

smart thing for day to do would be request kf for a early copy of the upcoming bestseller titled winning 10 games with deacon hill

I've only read they are planning on him to be out for season so there's a chance that's just it at this point and he can comeback late in year/postseason. With Ohio States schedule and if upsets continue 9-3 might be enough to make playoffs.

Maybe OSU will be able to put in emergency rules so they can get a free agent qb or a special in-season transfer of some top QB.

I am surprised OSU doesnt have a deeper QB room with a 3rd or 4th year experienced transfer qb waiting in the wings

This. Teams like tOSU usually have quality depth.
I'll admit I'm surprised, I thought NIL would be a rich getting richer situation, but at positions like QB it created a free agency situation. Unless you're paying that backup huge money to not play, that guy that's good enough to be #2 at OSU doesn't wait his turn anymore. He goes elsewhere and gets starter money instead.

Maybe, but then Raiola looked like dog Doo Doo in his first start and got benched.

As they are our only loss this season, we should all be rooting for Ohio St to win as many games as possible. Not praying on their downfall.

But, it stinks it didn't happen before we played them.

They have a 5 star guy on the bench who was a top-5 recruit in the 25 class. Sayin was hugely overrated. He put up gaudy numbers against weak and average defenses but pissed down his leg against any defense that could pressure him. Very similar to Purdy at ISU

If sayin is " overrated" like purdy, he might just go to the NFL and become the top rated passer in NFL history, like purdy.

They have lost to texas,iu and Miami over sayin career...not bums.
Tavien St. Clair is also in the mix. He was the #4 qb in his class, but guess fahey had nosed ahead on his passing. So fahey might be ok or they will punt to option B. But St Clair might not be able to get the ball to their biggest weapon, jerimiah smith. That has to be priority one for OSU.

NIL and transfer rules is exact reason why they dont have a quality backup. These kids still want to play. If there is a heavy NIL starter in front of them they go elsewhere.

qb recruiting rankings are truly laughable at this point. Looking at the top five recruits from the last five years, 2025 may be too early to tell, 2026 first years, I didn't count them.

2022: Brown (bust), Allar (mid), Simpson (hit), Allen (bust), Weigman (bust
2023: Nico Iamaleava (bust), Arch Manning (bust), Jackson Arnold (bust), Dante Moore (hit), Malachi Nelson (bust) 2024: Lagway (bust), Sayin (hit), Kromenhoek (who?), Raiola (bust), Cherry (who?)
2025: Underwood (bust), Russell (hit), Longstreet (bust), Keawe Sagapolutele (hit), St. Clair (bust)

I don't quite follow this. He's leaving for the league and the talent is obviously there, but they have a solid number of weapons at WR, and winning is probably priority #1. Honestly, McCuin could have had 2 TDs against Iowa if they would have looked down field, he was open most of the game.

And, I think, far more important, Jeremy Hecklinski at QB for Iowa. If a rematch were to happen with both teams using "backup" QBs, that would be very interesting in the sense that, by then, Hecklinski would be leading a diversified, aggressive offense. And I believe Phil Parker would have some special packages ready for the Buckeyes if Iowa were to get a second shot at them. But there's a LOT of football to be played first.

The Louisville QB transferred there from OSU. These 5 star kids want to play. I suspect Hank or Heck will leave next year. Hard to keep two good QB's on the roster.
I said in the preseason that Heck would win the job and that Brown would transfer again. And now that KF may have FINALLY recognized who the best Iowa QB is, I stand by that assertion. And Iowa would be all the better for it with Sullivan as a backup and, especially, with highly touted Tradon Bessinger waiting in the wings. Iowa is in outstanding position with its QB room.

What stinks even more is that KF started the wrong QB. Had Hecklinski started the OSU game, the evidence suggests it would have been a much better contest for Iowa.

Why not? I'd be fine if they dropped all 5 of their remaining games, the committee will definitely take into account that Sayin was a difference maker, it was why FSU was held out of the 4 team playoff as well. On top of that, the elimination of another CFP team is always good for the hawks.

We want them to either win out or tank completely. Our loss was before the injury which the committee is allowed to consider. Worst case scenario is them going 9-3 with Sayin possibly returning post-season for the committee to justify keeping them in the field.

I tendto agree with a lot of that, but if Bessinger has to sit on the bench 3 years waiting for Hecklinski to graduate, we will most likely lose him to transfer portal. Just how I see it.

The committee isn't putting a 3 loss team in the CFP barring a major meltdown.

I don't trust them to leave out Alabama, OSU or Georgia until loss #4.
Meh, if they don't make their CCG, I don't see it happening. Chaos could occur in the SEC with their remaining schedules. the big 12 probably gets 3 in. ACC, hopefully only one. SEC: 3-4, G5: 1, BIG: 3-4. The real question is does ND get in with a loss to Miami yet.
