“I wasn’t planning on taking a visit there, but Pat Kelsey really just came down to South Florida when I was at one of my practices and put it straightforward: “We need you. We want you.” stated Daughtry, according to Tipton. “After reconsidering and seeing the energy he had, how Coach Jermaine and everybody came down to practice, and how they were, I couldn’t leave them out. So I decided to take a visit there, and I want to see what’s up. I want to see it firsthand.”

With a Daughtry commitment fading faster than invisable ink, where does Ben go from here? Not seeing much activity in our 2028 PG offers. I imagine it is back to the portal. Thoughts?

Daughtry or portal. He kind of alluded to that on is Gameday appearance. Daughtry is kind of like a portal player as he will be a one and done. If Iowa doesn't land him, I think he will be regretting his decision when Iowa makes another deep tourney run.

A 5’11” PG one and done? I’d be surprised.

@TailgateTom , is this true??? :)
I'm not TT but 247 shows Cayden has four schools as warm, three from Florida and Iowa. 25% chance or less. I believe he visited Miami last weekend or this coming weekend. It has been rumored that he is leaning to the hurricanes. Rumored, Mom wants him to stay closer to home. It has been a long time since his Iowa visit, positive memories fade over time.

The point of my post was, if not Daughtry, where does Ben turn? I like Colemam who will have three more years after this year and combs will have one after this year. Just looking to the future.

No way. We're still in a damn good spot, honestly I have heard Iowa/FSU are in the top slot. McCollum is still planning on making an in home with him in the near future, too. If we do end up missing, I believe the plan would be portal or wait until the spring for decommits. IMO, McCollum is extremely confident in Combs/Coleman for the next couple years so it's allowed him to be selective and aggressive with Cayden. He's basically said this in in recent interviews, too!

I am resigned to the probability we miss on CD, but I see Ben's burning desire to win it all in this recruitment of CD.
Watching the Saban series hammers home that great coaches like Saban and KF focus on the process way more than the outcome and are really never satisfied with just winning the games.
Ben seems like this is his mindset.
A day after losing in the elite eight he was more concerned about the next step in process than soaking in accolades.

Saban was fanatical...down to every technical detail...much like Ben in his footwork detail demands on defense that keeps talented players on bench.

Keep pushing Ben!

Iowa is spending between $7.1M and $9.9M this season on its roster.

Why?

Iowa had more money to spend in this cycle, but it didn't go overboard in the point guard market. Rival coaches believe Iowa put some money away to try and land a dynamic 2027 five-star guard, Cayden Daughtry, but the price of the brick has skyrocketed there after he put together a rocket-ship summer on the grassroots circuit.

Surely, Ben is in frequent contact with him. :)
