2002 was there for goal posts being torn down, squelching of speakers etc. When we got back to our car it was gone. Long story short, it was towed because the rear of the car was less than 6 feet from the persons driveway. Cost $250 to get it out of storage. Don’t suppose the Iowa plates 15 minutes from the stadium had anything to do with it? Funny now but not then. Go Hawks!

2008. Iowa 55, Minnesota 0. Last game in the Metrodome. Absolute BTA.

2002 was a great memory as well.
1979 UI Homecoming float. A Goldie Gopher is tied to a stake with firewood around it. The banner read "Burn the gophers and kick their ashes."

Unfortunately Joe Salem's Minny team beat Hayden Fry's first Iowa team the next day. But it was a great Homecoming float.

2015. Beating Minnesota to go 10-0 for the first time in school history.

2019. Ending Minnesota’s undefeated season in Kinnick.

Really though, just pick any season since Fleck became the coach. Even the year DeJean beat them on a punt return that got overturned on a technicality.

The Hawks played in four homecoming games that season (three on the road and one at home) and spoiled all of them.

Early 80's Eddie Phillips broke a long touchdown run. #94 defensive end for Minnesota didn't keep contain on the play. We're in the 10th row behind Minnesota bench, guy starts a chant, what do we eat, gopher meat. Couple of #94 teammates had to keep him from climbing into the stands.

'91 game. It was miserable getting to the stadium - still the coldest I've been watching a game (probably more of a mistake on my part of not layering correctly). Hughes snow angel.

Was at the '98 shellacking (Hayden's last game). Swore I would never set foot in the Metrodome ever again.

'02 and '08 have already been mentioned, but not the hijinks taking place during the latter. The old site had a meme of the infamous restroom with a ceiling cat...

I was there for both. On field in 2002.
I was also at 2010 and 11 games when Iowa lost to horrible Minnesota 😭 teams in Minneapolis.
Gophers only home conference win both years.

1968 at Memorial Stadium in Minneapolis watching Ed Podolak out-flanking the Gopher defense for the win.
I was at the last game Iowa played at the old War Memorial Stadium before moving to the dome. The Hayden Fry led Hawks lost 24-6. After checking sports reference to refresh my memory here were some in game oddities:

Phil Suess was 16/32 with 0 ints, however Iowa fumbled 7 times, losing 4!

Minnesota was 7/12 with 3 ints, also losing 2 of 4 fumbles.

Marion Barber II ( father of Marion Barber III )scored 3 TDs but Iowa held him to 49 yards on 16 carries.

Reggie Roby kicked a FG ( Lon Olenczak the other ) and punted 3 times for 44 yards average.

Minnesota punted 5 times for a 20.6 yard average.

was there in '94 (49-42--I remember how electric young T Dwight was). In '04 when Barber and Maroney went nuts, but we somehow won when Lloyd missed late FG. In '06 when D Tate kept making mistakes and Herb Grigsby :mad:kept dropping balls. I hated that guy. I left so angry cuz I knew we were the better team.

Too bad someone didn't save that thread like they did the New Orleans thread, Lois.

In the Metrodump in 1986 with the score tied at 27 apiece and seconds left good ole Rob Houghtlin ... ... missed! No way! But wait ... ... there's a flag on the field ... ... Minnesota had 12 men on the field!!! Now what's this ... ... an unsportsman like penalty on the Goopher sidelines! RH makes it easily now from 36 (vs 51) and the HAWKS WIN!

Classic Hayden remark, "If you people in Minnesota could count to 12 ... "

1978 old Memorial Stadium. Third and nine (It was third and long a lot in those days) and Pete Gales drops back to pass. He takes off scrambling and gets near the first down - he could have fallen forward and made it - but he stops and launches a perfect 40-yard spiral that lands nowhere near any Iowa receiver. Hawks lose a close one after a valiant comeback. Iowa goes 2-9 that year and Bob Commings is fired.

This kind of reminds me of Hayden's remark about how, before he got there, Iowa fans would go nuts for a first down. In addition to that apparently, one fan still fondly remembers the epic Gales' perfect spiral ... to nowhere in particular. Gotta admit, from your description it sounded like a heluva spiral!

Bravo Sports has had some epic parties in the Mall of America prior to our games in the Metrodome. The percent of Hawks to Gophers during the Metrodome era was off the charts. Great to be a Hawkeye.

It's good to know law enforcement was doing its job back in the day. Gotta get you dangerous criminals off the streets. Were you an undocumented immigrant or just a regular criminal then? :)

Nov. 23, 1985. Hayden Fry's Iowa team beats Lou Holtz's Minnesota squad 31-9. Hawks clinch the Big Ten title, roses are everywhere.
It was my birthday. Pretty good present.

Not a criminal but was “broke” after finding out where car was towed, getting a taxi for four and getting it out of hock. Under 6 feet from the driveway-sheesh! But Hawks won!

I was there but don't remember anything about the game itself. Instead, I recall how brutally cold it was and that we put Everclear in the valve and slide oil in an effort to keep our instruments from freezing.

Unfortunately my last away game was the 55-7 drubbing against Minnesota. Iowa score on the opening drive, then it was going show after that.
