There's a reason Jayden Montgomery is probably Iowa's most respected leader on the entire team. A perfect quote about the 5-1 Hawkeyes' approach to the second half of the season, reflective of Kirk Ferentz's message to the team.

“It's really a week-to-week process. We're not worried about what it may look like in six weeks, because it's not going to look good if we don't take care of this week, and then we don't take care of next week, and so on. We’ve got to continue to attack each and every single day, which will lead to good weeks and hopefully a good finish to the season.”

Cael Winter is a pretty quiet guy, but he's grown in confidence as Iowa's surprise starter at center. And he had this quote today about the OL and team:

“The last couple years we've played our best football at the end of the year, and it's something we plan on doing this year, too.”

This mindset is very typical in the military and throughout training. Focus on the current task at hand. Get to the next minute...next 10 min...next hour...etc. if you follow the process....the result most likely takes care of itself

Pretty cool Kirk and co have implemented that same philosophy and has proven to be very successful

On deciding between Hank and Heck:

Every week I look around the Big Ten at turnover margin and penalties. Jeremy played a pretty clean game last time out. Both have done well with their opportunities. I think we will be successful with either guy in there. It certainly helps us if we have a good run game (compare Washington vs Michigan).

Per KF: Hank is 100%. Everybody has to be ready.

I have said it before; I really think Lester has a big say in who starts and KF adds his 2 cents.
Of course he does, and I think its been his decision from the get go. I said earlier that Kirk brought Lester in to handle the offense, and I think if Kirk over ruled his decision on this, he'd be leaving at the end of the year.

So, all the teeth gnashing, and "we all know he'll start Brown" was for nothing. Shocking.....

I'll say it again. KF adds his 2 cents but I think Lester has the most say in the final decision.

It's interesting, too, that it used to be an unwritten rule that an injured starter would not lose the job once 100% healthy.

Well, Hank is 100% and he lost his starting job.

Minnesota is #2 in the B1G pass defense. Iowa is #18, dead last.

Purdue destroyed Minny on the ground. Expect a quiet game from Heck this weekend. We're going to run the ball down the Goof's throat.

makes me wonder…kirk may well be playing us by giving mn advance notice so they gameplan a great D causing heck to struggle a couple series, allowing kf’s good boy to return with zero controversy. old man gets what he wants and people praise him for it

:)
Please tell me you aren't serious.

I would feel immensely sorry for you

Sounds a little too conspiratorial, maybe you're just joking, but I doubt Kirk would throw Heck under the bus like that. But like I said in my previous post, don't expect Heck to have an active day passing. Minny has the #2 pass defense against B1G conference teams. Iowa is dead last, #18, against conference foes. It's a small sample size of three games, but still a relevant stat. Got that from Cory from 'From The Hawkeye of the Storm'. Linked the video below starting at the timestamp he mentions the stat:

i wasn’t serious in the slightest…and i wouldn’t be surprised if we struggle against any of our opponents. i just hope the D is there to save the day if O struggles and O shows up big if D is taken to cleaners.
