“Understand the type of environment you’re getting into. Understand the approach of your opponent,” Heupel said. “You’re stepping into a ring; you better understand your opponent. Be prepared to be your physical, mental and emotional at your peak.”

UT fans are still amped up about us stealing signals and ending Hooker's Heisman campaign with an injury.

I don't think he's bringing it up as a "Remember what they did to us and we must get our revenge!" kind of way. Seems more like "Hey guys, we went in there four years ago flying high and in the playoff mix and got steamrolled. Don't take this game lightly." type of reminder.

But man, their fans sure do cry about 2022 a lot :ROFLMAO:

I wouldn't be surprised if Heupel is using a bit of the "revenge" aspect behind closed doors. They do all sorts of things to get their teams psyched up.

But, yeah, I think he's largely trying to remind them of what can happen.

Back when college football was actually college football, there would have been players who were starters on this year's team that were on the team in 2022. Today, there probably aren't many at all that were on the team in 2022.

I was wondering that yesterday. I wonder if there are any starters who were on those teams?

According to Google:
Four current Tennessee players were on the 2022 team. Zero current starters were on the 2022 team.
Zero current Carolina players were on the 2022 team.

Beamer said in his presser that Peyton Williams was on the team.

So, yeah, I dunno how much the revenge angle would land when it's two totally different teams.

Eff Tennessee. Don’t give a rip what they do or don’t remember. They’ve had a charmed life against us, pulled quite a few W’s out of their arse. I’ve always thought Tennessee was what we would have been if we had similarly over the years paid players, poached players, had the hostesses (yes I’m sure someone can cite a specific instance of whatever, I mean the big boy cheating activities), etc. Screw em.

I will remember that game as long as the Good Lord lets me live. SEC gameday was there and noone gave us a snowball chance to win that game. I remember some lady calling in on the Paul Finebaum show and said it was going to be a blood bath in Columbia that night. Well as it turned out it was a blood bath for Tennessee. They got knocked out of the playoffs, their starting qb slipped and tore his acl and was out for the rest of the year. Boy amazing how Karma works. I remember leaving WB that night and yes I paid a man $5 for a cigar and yes I smoked it to celebrate. I will never and I mean never forget that game. The lady who called in Paul Finebaum and made that comment about a blood bath has not been seen or heard from since. Maybe she went back to the hills of Tennessee and did her crying and pouting.

Tennessee was definitely an outlaw program back in the '90s, but we weren't pure as the driven snow either, no one was. It was pretty much a matter of degrees.
