Now that Bo Bassett got eliminated in the first round of U23 worlds, do we expect him to leave VT? I just thought I would start a "what if" thread for the heck of it.

I just think he got a little too cocky, thinking he’s the man no matter what. Hopefully this humble pie he’s going to be eating until the next international battle will keep him more focused and grounded.

Let’s don’t forget the kid turned 20 last month. He is 23 months older than when I started as a college freshman. Kids had a great career up to now, but he hasn’t won squat in college yet. He still may, but let’s see what he can do when he has people of equal strength. I saw a few close matches last year against hs guys which are at least a year younger than him, even if though they’re in the same grade. Haven’t seen many 20-year-olds who are college freshman.

100% Melvin and Bo will not finish their careers at VT. No one wants to wrestle at VT, no tradition and **** facilities . They money they both will bring on the transfer portal will be ridiculous. I will say Bo's Junior year god tells him to enter the portal

Hmmm, I could’ve sworn I just saw him roll-up NCAA finalist, Real Woods 2 matches to nothing. Let’s not kid ourselves, unless he suffers serious injuries, conservatively this kid is a 4X AA with a couple finals appearances.

This, Bo and Melvin were going to be studs at Iowa and they will still be studs at VT. I also don't see them staying there for 5 years either.

They wont stay at VT after this season If Bo doesn't win his first NCAA title. The logic will be his room and surroundings are holding him back from his potential.

Pretty much what started the house of cards at Iowa. He didn't win on the world stage so he needed more and Iowa wasnt providing it by looking the other way. IMO some patience from his parents would have gone a long way because really I feel for Bo on that one. His goal was to wear the Iowa singlet and his parents overreacted out of greed of what Jax was getting and deprived the kid. I also doubt Brands temperament with the parents helped either.

Cooler heads should have prevailed and looked at a bigger future picture instead of knee jerk reaction to a small blemish in a long career. But any reason it wont happen again at VT if he dares to not win a title?

He will either end up a PSU as soon as it works out that Caels need him in the lineup with the logic Bo needs that room to get him over the top OR wait for it- Bo comes back to Iowa when Tom's contract has expired to finish up his career under the new Iowa coach.

He won the US open in April beating the 2026 149lb ncaa champ in Aden Valencia, as well as Beau Bartlett and Joey Mckenna. Then beat Woods (2025 senior world bronze) in back to back matches.

Are they not of ‘equal strength’?

My guess is Bo will win 3 or 4 titles. Wont be a 5x because he will get caught with style and it will be used against him. Way too many other elites that could end up in his weight class and some of them will catch him on something. Slap a cradlle on when knee was to close to chin, spladdle...something.

But he will have one heck of a career and with his energy will be must see TV rockstar. Just a shame its not in the black singlet as he was the perfect Iowa throwback. His parents let him down from an even bigger stage, they all just dont understand that yet. When Bo is in his older years he will look back and may even have a bit of animosity towards his parents.

I will root for the kid as I do think he is a good kid and fun too watch. But from my chair its just a bit sad as it was his dream to be a Hawkeye, not his parents. And as we all sit here on 10/19/26- the whole training issue wouldnt even matter anymore. Just silly

I think Bo is strong enough. Word is Real is about as strong as they come. What would humble Bo at this level is other guys who are savvy, junk it up and can ride, turn and bait him.

Bo lost that match due to aggression and situational awareness. He’ll learn from it. Also, he is going to Seniors so if they are trying to peak him, that would be the one they would do it for. Keep in mind that he had to make weight for the Real match, quick U23 turnaround, and now on to Seniors. That’s rough for anybody.

Right now, he has some pretty good partners in the room. The only real reason to leave VT would be $$. Bo is going to be just fine.

He won't even have the opportunity for 5 years, due to him being almost able to legally drink. Hopefully this new 5-year rule fixes kids being held back for the wrong reasons in JH and HS

This was the first time I've ever seen him shut it down. he was content to just India come to him.

And then, for whatever stupid dumbazz reason - he forget the damn score, and then, EVEN IF HE WAS RIGHT, did the stupidest thing possible and tried to dive roll on the edge

A 20 year old freshman who has had no college experience or injuries. Bo will transfer. Will it be before he gets his AARP card Or collects social security. IMO he will be a 4 time AA never a champ. I am probably wrong but right now he makes too many mistakes.

Ohhh...I think he definitely has multiple champs in him. As much as I hate to say since he blew off the Hawks.

The kid would have won 149 last year. He's winning multiple chips.

Most here are predicting a move if not successful which is logical but also have to weigh if successful with 1 or 2 natty championships his $$ potential goes beyond what VT can/will pay. Psu and Osu will fight it out with their money.

Real Woods was a good wrestler, but he never won a championship. As well he’s at a weak weight world level. Are you seriously thinking that Woods is the best wrestler in the world?
