Credit for Rutgers for playing two top 25 or better projected teams in exhibitions for the public at large without its HC. The results don’t matter for these exhibitions, at least I don’t think. But getting that type of experience against that type of competition outside a closed door setting is invaluable IMO.

Btw I assume this game was televised?

BTN+

[dehere23]

I have the Big 10 network but I think that’s different than BTN+. Guess folks here were able to follow somehow.

Full game replay minus the OTs

And some wonder why a group of us pull our hair out about the shroud of secrecy with our program.

We probably have as many threads and posts about the RU v SJU exhibition compared as our apparent “secret scrimmage” with BC over the weekend. And now a YouTube clip of the entire game.

Only here…..

And it’s just the coach?

Our game against BC could not be broadcasted by any means.

The SJU game was an exhibition and could be found on various sites..

Rutgers looks a lot different this year.

Lino Mark emerging as a player at PG is key, allows Francis to just score. And Gurdak looks like a legit starting P5 Center.

Add in the fact that they are playing hard and really crashing the boards and they look like a competent team that will be better than expected. No disrespect to Pikiell but I think Knight gives them a boost of energy, especially on offense.

Pitino went all out to win this game playing an 8-man rotation and a whopping 50+ minutes from Ellis, Hall and Jackson.

[PirateBlue08]

SJU again not looking like a good outside shooting team. Great size at most positions but after watching this game they seem more like a slashing and defensive runouts team. Not sure if Prey is the consistent answer at C. Seems like Repole overpaid again. Gurdak seems better than any big on SJU and it’s not close.

I see these possibilities:

1. Rutgers is better this year. Maybe but I am somewhat skeptical.
2. Rutgers is not really better, and Villanova and St Johns are way overrated...at least at this point
3. It was only a scrimmage, and the end results were meaningless. No conclusions can be drawn.

I think its a combo of all 3

You may be right, but I am betting on number 3.

[dehere23]

It’s clearly more number 3 than anything else.

Not me, I think you’re crazy if you believe Pitino didn’t desperately want to win that game. RU might be sneaky good this year. That’s what happens when you have a competent 1 and 5, plus a capable scorer and some serviceable forwards.

I’ve watched multiple full RU games so far and although I haven’t seen us yet, I’d be suprised if we are a better team.

Compare tentative starting lineups, who would you pick at each position?

RU:
PG- Mark
SG- Francis
SF- Smith Jr
PF- Buchanan
C- Gurdak

SHU:
PG- Jones
SG- Wilcher
SF- Brown
PF- Williams
C- Copeland

PG = Edge RU
SG = Edge RU
SF = Edge RU
PF = Even or slight edge SHU
C = Edge RU

Obviously the proof will be once the lights go on and the season gets underway, but as of now on paper RU should be significantly better than us.
