It is almost genetic with them.

Rhule remains 0-19 vs ranked teams
TEN YEARS since a single victory over a ranked opponent.

Rhule has pulled in approximately $120 Million coaching football - since his last win over a ranked team (and I think he has another $50 million or so in guaranteed money from Nebraska still hanging out there)
Honestly - with a sane lifestyle and prudent investing - he could soon be a BILLIONAIRE for coaching football - without a single top 25 win. A BILLIONAIRE $1,000,000,000.00

That is just stunning. Really really hard to even wrap one's head around what is going on in "football".
But "college" football needs to be saved due to the kids now getting paid? LOL

Outrageous salaries and buyouts for coaches were the canary in the coalmine but everyone looked the other way as long as kids *weren't* getting paid. Now, the two systems (crazy pay for coaches and players) do not seem to mix well....

IDK the starting date for this list. But Nebby was #1, and had the most 4qts blown leads with about 18 during that time frame. . We weren't in the top 15 listed, but it sure feels like we should have been.

Nebraska hasn't defeated a ranked team since 2016. 0-31 I believe. Penn State Nebraska'd themselves by firing Franklin. We can't even win a Big Ten game!!! Big game Matt!!!

I was really hoping Rhule would succeed - at least have a really solid year this year - if for no other reason than to say that it took a Penn Stater to bring Nebraska back from purgatory. Nebraska has Washington, Illinois, Rutgers, Ohio State, and Iowa remaining. Washington and Ohio State are at Lincoln, the rest are away. Ohio State would seem to be the toughest out, depending on whether Sayin is playin'. Iowa won't be a picnic either. If Nebby goes 3-2 (most likely IMO), then it'd be 8-4 and a trip to a nice bowl game. They'd need to win out to have a prayer of getting into the playoff.

Since the CFP was initiated (2014), there have been 7 schools that have won a NC. That's across the 4 power conferences (SEC, B1G, ACC, and B12, although Oklahoma has since moved to the SEC). Bottom line, if your school isn't named Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, or the pre-NIL Clemson, your school ain't got a bat's chance in Hell of winning a NC. Yet schools happily blow all kinds of money chasing that elusive butterfly.

It's nuts.

And add in (how quickly we forget) the absolutely idiotic facilities arms races .... as if any team ever won a game because they had spas, lazy rivers, and Michelin restaurants in the athletic building. God almighty, what idiots.

And "athletic staffs" so huge 1/2 of the guys (and gals) don't even know WTF they are supposed to be doing, and those who do can't get anything done due to a dozen of others getting in the way.
(And not just the various and sundry "full-employment-welfare-system" administrative hangers-on. Hell, PSU has something like 30 guys listed as some kind of COACH for the football team alone - and yet even basic stuff is fubar-ed)

And on, and on, and on.

All of it complete idiocy.

Just another piece of evidence that many universities are a massive football program with some extracurriculars like engineering, nursing, pre-med, business etc.

At least Matt Rhule will have a better chance at finally making the playoffs next year.

I assume you are thinking "24"?
Otherwise I would expect both have about the same odds (slim/none), for all intents and purposes - but you're the book sage, for sure.

Yes, 24. Sorry, it goes back to an old discussion Midnighter and I had when it was still a 4 team playoff and Rhule was a hot name. I said he wouldn't go to the playoffs with Nebraska (again, before expansion to 12, but 12 works too.). He may not remember.

Nebraska losing that game was the classic that the team does not know how to win close games. Same with Franklin at PSU in big games vs equal talent.

Oregon did very little that whole game on offense. They get the ball on their own 20 or something like that with 5 minutes to go and proceed to march down the field like a well oiled machine. The Nebby defense simply choked.

To be fair, Oregon benched their starting qb and played a guy who looked like he was a high school jv qb. When they put the starter (Raiola) in, their offense started clicking. If he had started the game, it wouldn't even been close.

Maybe but maybe not. Thomas fared significantly better when he came in for Raiola last week vs ucla. Raiola was 6 for 19 for 43 yards.

Their D contained Raiola in the 2nd half and collapsed on the last drive.
