ON3 is predicting it and 247 is hinting at it. We will have Manske and Evans as qbs next season. Campbell unable to compete with BC for a 3 star qb.

Have you considered the reason Wood is considering BC has more to do with our plans than his plans?

Armstrong is 2028. Big time programs recruit this position every year. I don’t think one has anything to do with the other.

From our perspective that makes sense but Wood isn't making decisions based on our perspective. From his perspective he knows that Manske will likely be the starter for the next couple of seasons and he'll have to compete for the starting spot after that with a highly rated 4* PA QB.

They absolutely do have to do with each other
Wood knows that he won't be starting next year then will be in a competition against someone who is a priority signing not a "we need a QB" signing.
Love your optimism. A player who can’t sign for more than a year will stick to his commitment to a team having an unexpectedly poor season while better teams with more to offer decide not to pursue him. Hasn’t worked that way with the 2027 class. But you believe that a receiver with great stats against OOC teams will change everything for the offense when he returns from injury. I hope he does but if he does he will be playing for another team next year.

If Manske was that good, Campbell probably would’ve put him in one of these disastrous games that Becht gives away. Sorry, probably overly negative, but it’s hard to find any silver lining in anything that’s happening with the program right now.

See what Becht has done in his career with an elite WR--Noel
But, no, it doesn't "change everything"--it simply enables us to win games we've been competitive in when we have our best player

Hopefully Rocco looks better when Koby Howard comes back and PSU runs the table the rest of the way and finishes 8-4. Losing Wood is not that big of a deal with Armstrong coming to PSU.
This, as long as we can keep Armstrong. There isn’t a clear path for Woods to be QB1 at PSU. There’s less competition at BC. Kid wants to play without wondering if he can earn it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Exactly--now he has less competition and is closer to home.
Good for him--he realized our staff saw him as a depth guy and moved on--rather him do it now than after a his freshman year

Will Wood can run ... that's about it. And he's not super fast/quick as a runner (good enough for MA Catholic ball in HS), so that talent may be somewhat limited at the P4 level. He is not a big loss, other than he's a body ... and we may be desperately in need of bodies, like the hoops program ... if things continue as they have been.

People are optimistic that we can build on what we have, and add some recruits/portal folks and be OK ... the potential problem is, the current crop of good players may bolt, if the program keeps losing, and we keep failing to bring in stud recruits and keep bringing in middling classes ... we could end up in a downward spiral, like the hoops program, where we can't retain the talent we do have to allow us to build on it in any meaningful way ... and then we can't bring in top kids because the program isn't successful enough ... and we can't hold on to the ledge well enough to pull ourselves up and regain our footing. I'm not saying that has happened, or will definitely happen, but it's becoming more likely, and probably as likely as this program reestablishing itself as a top level concern in the near future.

I don't know if anyone is "optimistic" right now but all we have is hope. MC isn't leaving after this year so we have one option--patience until 2028

The bigger worry I now have is that MC has painted himself into a corner philosophically and something has got to give. It’s very clear he wants to create a certain culture that doesn’t rely on hired guns that don’t fit his value system. If you listened to his speech to recruits before the White Out, he is unwavering on this. The reality is we need hired guns - lots of them - and many won’t check every value system box. That greatly reduces the amount of guys we would consider. Then, there’s going to be a lot of competition for those players that do check every box. So, MC will have to decide if he is going to have some willingness to compromise on his value system checklist to get the best players we can, or, stick to his guns and know we are not getting the best players our money can buy but we will have “good humans” that will try hard but likely will continue to struggle against B10 competition.

In short, what he is trying to do is admirable, but really does put us at a talent disadvantage.

With the portal available, I don't see the logic. Everyone has a QB. Where are you going that has zero competition. This was the prospect our coaches valued over Bourque? The wheels are coming off in all directions.

This is an interesting case study regarding NIL money. So many folks are now claiming we don't have enough NIL to compete with the big boys, no matter how awesome our coaching/recruiting is ... but here we have a middling recruit, who we apparently valued highly, who jumped ship to attend a school with virtually no NIL money, comparatively speaking. Sure, it's a "hometown team" (Natick - his hometown; and Westwood - the town where Xaverian is located, are both a stone's throw from Chestnut Hill ... my kids have played many a game in each of those locales), but, still ...

What exactly did Becht do with Noel? I don’t give a royal rat’s you know what Becht did at ISU (which ain’t anywhere as good as his apologists like claim it was). He’s playing at Penn State and playing poorly. But hey you are hell bent on being the last person to go down on the Titanic. Knock yourself out.

What are you talking about?
Check out his numbers with Noel--facts are facts
I said repeatedly I would have benched him after the 2nd pick against Michigan--just like Underwood was

LOL. Hey if the team keeps playing like this when does Armstrong flip. It’s only 14 months before he can officially sign.
Wood's decision is based on now not assuming Armstrong is going to flip
No recruit cares if we win or lose games right now. If anything, it means they play sooner

Manske is not that good. I'm sure of that but can't be worse than Becht. Nevertheless we have no good QB for the foreseeable future. No good RBs, a below average Oline. One good WR, who will transfer. On D we have one or two good players. In short we are as bad in football as we are in basketball. And that is bad.

Anyone who is optimistic is a complete doofus. We have to be patient because we are looking at not even returning to a Franklin level team until maybe 2029 and that is super optimistic. That will most likely be with a different coach. And yes, Franklin needed to be canned and no, I don't want him back. But if they don't can Kraft and seriously get more NIL while starting to recruit at a couple levels above what we are doing now then we are looking at a parade of 7-5 and 6-6 seasons with no end in sight.
