They set the system up to ensure that ND is always in the playoffs. I guess it is done to appease the Catholics? I have one friend that graduated from ND and he is a huge Catholic and ND fan. None of my other Catholic friends seem to give a crap about ND Football, they are fans of the schools they attended. I don't know?

I doubt it's a "Catholic" thing, but the Irish nonetheless have a perception of greatness which they want to keep going.

I've posted on this before, and now is a good time to repeat.

ND expressed interest in joining the B1G about 100 years ago, and were turned down because it's a Catholic school (fortunately, that would not be a factor today). Ever since, the Irish have grown their football program into a nationwide following.

Nonetheless, the school recognized the need for all varsity sports not called football to be able to compete in a conference. The ACC should have stood strong, telling ND that ACC membership requires that all sports you sponsor in which the league sponsors a championship, your team must compete for the championship (Side note: Miami was a baseball independent during their Big East years.). Instead, the ACC "compromised," allowing ND to remain independent in football, but agreeing to schedule about 5 games each season against ACC schools.

If we hadn't left the league, I would have hoped that the USC administration would have voted against this nonsense, and would have refused to schedule ND in football under these circumstances had enough members foolishly agreed to it.

Yes, more and more people are seeing the facade which is Notre Dame Football. Looking forward to the day when ND gives up the ruse and competes in ACC football.

Good post and I'm not arguing with you but.....

Now that we're going to have a 24 team playoff for the title..... Noodle Lame will never have to worry about joining anything in football, and I mean that both sincerely and out of anger.

Those OUTRIGHT FRAUDS could literally lose 497 games in a row, spanning decades, and they'd still be ranked top #20. We both know it's true.
A positive out of the 24 team playoff will be > ND will FINALLY have to face 5 consecutive teams that actually have a pulse for once, pretty much every single year. So, those of us screaming for ND to finally "play somebody" , will actually get our wish granted. Sort of. But you know what I'm saying.

Miami doesn’t look like a team that will beat them.
I'm not so sure it's a good matchup for ND.

Like it, love it, or hate it, Miami has some (some) of that 80's Hurricane swag back and they bring that attitude with them. They play clean, but nasty. ND is not nasty. It's a different attitude. I think Miami eats ND alive, at least physically

When the rankings themselves are garbage, and highly ranked garbage plays highly ranked garbage, then who knows who has an easy or hard schedule? We will not find out until the playoffs who was good or bad, easy or hard.

ND is probably my least favorite team in sports because of the special treatment/attention the seem to get. Nice to see them get beat. At the end of the season though, they are probably a lot fresher from playing such a light schedule. Not taking anything away from BYU, but in the SEC your playing teams of their caliber on a nearly weekly basis.

On a side note, not sure why people hate on Herbstreit and his dogs. He’s probably a pretty busy guy and just wants to bring his dog along.
