Can someone, anyone, explain why freshman nobody Billy Puckett played a whole game, when there was true, game-tested talent sitting on the bench? This kids dad a big booster or something?

Lebby must have read my posts because he finally addressed it in the post game. Click the link to the top and right of this thread.

Lebby is entering the “fire me before the end of the season” conversation now and it’s completely justifiable. Problem is, he’s likely to get picked up as OC at some big school and “big toe” follows along.

At this point, IDGAF either way. This is as low as it gets….

17 Mark Keenum and John Cohen sideways.

If you think this is frustrating just wait until they.announce that K1 is having surgery to repair his turf toe and will miss the rest of the year. The injury that occurred against Mizzou and then instead of immobiiizing it for recovery, we ran him out there against Bama and finished 17ing it up

His stats were not bad. I understand Lebby slowing the game down but seems like they moved the ball up the field when they went fast. Just could not get into the endzone. The defense looked more mentally out of the game than the offense. Maybe with both KT and Fluff out it got into their heads. Bye week sometimes hurt you mentally. You don't play well.

It looked like to me the coaches didn’t expect to win and the team fed off of it.

Dear Lowered… we have made the decision to call the 3rd string qb at MSU a game-tested talent.

Truly we have crossed the rubicon.
It’s not false. I mean Swann and Rashada have both played. Not that playing them was the right decision.

That can be true, as well as OP being an idiot.

His stats were bad. Just posted in another thread his rating was 92.9. That’s beyond awful.

They did move the ball. When they went fast. He had a 61.5% completion. Considering the situation, his first start, in tiger stadium, and started running back out I think he did better than I thought he would. I don't think he made a whole of bad decisions. The O line let him down on many occasions. They should have scored a few times. I thought he would look worse than he did. If Fluff was in the game I think his rating would have been better. I also thought there would have been a few more interceptions with a some pick six.

They weren’t good. But it was his first start and it was in Death Valley against LSU.

You really should take a look at what Swann did when he played against teams with a pulse if you think 93 is “beyond awful”…

IMG_4131.jpeg

Check out his stats against the only two solid teams he started against last season (JMU & Boise). He did really pump up that rating against the Charlottes and Lindenwoods of the world though.

I’m not arguing that Puckett is a good option, just that it’s not obvious to me that he’s not the best 2nd option we’ve got unfortunately.

Can we also get an honest assessment of the injury situation going forward? We're not fooling anyone or getting a game planning advantage with the secrecy so might as well let the fans know what to expect.

The honest assessment that’s been obvious for 2 weeks now is that both Taylor & Bothwell are going to be very limited for at least most of the rest of the season at best. Not ideal.

Which, aGAIN, begs the ultimate question…..what did Lebby see in him to bring him here in the first place? Why is he wasting space in our locker room, film room, and team cafeteria if he is THAT bad? And ditto for Rashada.

You simply can’t have a plan to go into the season with a freshmen walk-on as your only viable backup at the most important position on the field. It’s a straight up fireable offense all by itself. Coaching malpractice.

Here's the deal. Our qb room blows. Outside of KT. We put all our marbles on one qb a sophomore. Yes he's really really good when healthy. We basically announced him starter end of last season. When you do that you won't get anyone decent to come in. Not without a huge payment. Even then not many people want to do that. However you don't do that and KT probably transfers last year. Doesn't matter though if Lebby can't keep a qb healthy. Every qb he has had misses games.

You can complain, but if you don’t donate your opinion doesn’t matter because you are part of the problem.

?? I didn’t watch. But On ESPN stats it looks like we moved down the field one drive all game?

It's my experience that the ones who question what I give are ones who don't buy tickets or go to games, and give way less than I do.

I give way more than I should, but that's because I'm an idiot. I don't begrudge anyone for not wanting to shovel money into a black hole. It doesn't make them any less of a fan.

Except for that narrative is shot to hell, because we found not one but TWO quarterbacks in the portal, gave both scholarships, and gave at least one one of them a good chunk of NIL money. Puckett was on the roster last year, so it’s not like Lebby didn’t already know what he could do.

He simply is clueless at identifying talent that could help us, or, perhaps worse…..he knew both of them sucked but knew he still had to do something to make it at least look like he knew what he was doing. That’s the scary part.

Howe you don't do that and KT probably transfers last year.
KT is absolutely not transferring if we bring in a legit G5 or FCS starter as a backup. That’s nonsense. Especially with the narrative of his lifetime MSU fandom.

Doesn't matter though if Lebby can't keep a qb healthy. Every qb he has had misses games.
That’s more of an OL issue than a QB issue.

Lol. Comments weren’t really directed towards you specifically. Just open discussion.

I didn’t think it was directed at me in particular, but it was a reply to my post. I’m just letting you know your feelings on Lebby are very clear. They don’t really need more reiteration.

That’s more of an OL issue than a QB issue.
If the money is right nobody is fully loyally these days.

I agree our line hasn't been good at all under Lebby. Phil's lines have been terrible. His recruits not great either. Can't develop what he has and can't recruit better. But I go back to qb, Lebby and staff whiffed on the transfers if Puckett was the best behind KT, but there are a ton of D1 qbs in the market. Most want to start, if you say our sophomore is starting then many decent ones with experience are going elsewhere. That's my point. Secondly there are still plenty serviceable guys out there that can win games and are okay with being behind a star like KT. No many but several that may be looking for a second chance. Our guys we got didn't work out otherwise a walk on wouldn't have started today. Bigger issues is defense recruiting also that has our defense looking like asss the last three years. It had look decent up until the Mizzou game at least if making stops when it mattered.
