More money helps, no doubt. But Sha can do much, much better promoting fan engagement. We operate under a cloak of secrecy when it should be the exact opposite in this market. He needs to be out there promoting the team all offseason, not waiting to give a possible 10 minute spot with Fanta or a longer interview with Carino that is akin to one of our diehards asking him questions. Podcasts, alternative media. And none of these closed door secret scrimmages so he can control the narrative about the team and performance.
A shame because in wake of St. Peter’s run he seemed to be doing a lot of press and was even on the Matt Barnes/Stephen Jackson podcast—and it seemed like he had a chance to make us a national darling of sorts. Since then, nothing. Perhaps it was only to promote Sha and not Seton Hall…

I wonder sometimes if this is more of a SHU thing and directed by the BOR. We’ve had stealth recruiting through multiple coaches. No coach ever embraced promotion of the program and supporting this board. Gonzo promoted Gonzo.

Think small at Seton Hall is the culture.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the BOR. The decision, as it did with Willard was left up to the coach.

Agree there are things he can/should be doing but gotta have the $$$.
The money helps with players no question.

The money doesn’t dictate to what extent you promote your program and engage fans.

Look at what Hodgson has been doing from the jump at Providence. As but one example.

What has Hodgson been doing that Cooley & English didn’t. They have a very engaged, passionate fan base. We forget, PC fans loved Cooley when he was coaching there & the transition to English went better than anyone expected…. at first. It wasn’t until he was exposed that things started to go south.

Cooley was great at that aspect.

Hodgson has been all over media from day 1. Podcasts. Traditional. Has held open press conferences with the entire Providence media throughout the offseason taking any question about incoming or outgoing players, NIL, portal strategy, roster construction strategy. Nothing scripted. No one on one with the equivalent of state run media.

It’s PC’s culture and starts from the top.

It’s also different up there…. There are three network affiliate TV stations, four if you include Fox, and they cover the team extensively. Sports radio talks about the Friars and the Patriots. Even though the newspapers there are dying like everywhere else, they still get much more coverage than SHU gets. The coaches go along with it accordingly. Holloway needs to step up his PR game, but he also needs an audience.
