The first episode is fascinating. Saban had a losing record as a head coach until he was taught not to worry about the score, but the next play. And since each play lasts about 6 seconds he found it was a much was a better way to coach. His wins to loses took a dramatic turn once he stopped worrying about the score. I was thinking about what Coach Franklin was doing so often when the TV camera was on him: Looking at the scoreboard. Part two when they are discussing how important his wife was to his success, it reminded me of Sue Paterno and her role with JoePa's success.

He was taught? lol. He won the natty at lsu before going to bama.

He was very good. It did help that he didn’t play ga 10-12 years in the regular season and had 8 conf games, just saying!

Yeah, very interesting series, just saw Part 2 today (after watching Part 1 and making sure to bookmark remaining shows).

  • His wife, Miss Terry, has been a very important part of his success, not just in her support of him, but in recruiting, public relations, motivator (took the job interview at LSU so Nick could stay at Michigan State and not be subject to early media attention).
  • Nick was very demanding and vocal on the practice field; players feared and respected him
  • Really cared about the players and helped them not only in developing their football potential, but also in getting an education and being a good citizen
  • Very ambitious guy who worked his tail off; continued to educate himself on football trends, and motivational techniques

IIRC, his father was a hard working man, who owned a gas station in rural WV. He taught Nick the work ethic, and also kindness in his charitable acts. The old adage, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Imagine if Joe’s PSU teams had been Voted #1 for each time he went undefeated.

Imagine if there were a playoff in 2005. Or any time he went 10-1.

Imagine if Bama didn’t get voted into a 2 team “playoff” when Okie State should have been in instead.

Imagine winning a National Championship without beating the champion of any other league.

Imagine if the SEC wasn’t propped up by ESPN as the only conference of value during the BCS time and when a 4 team “playoff” arrived, it turned out there actually were other teams.

He’s great. Greater than Paterno? Not for me.
