I just upgraded from a 12 to a 17 Pro max.

When I wear pocketed shirts, it goes in pocket. When shirt doesn’t have pockets phone is in back pocket of jeans, opposite of wallet (which I’m slowly getting away from).

I’ve used Otter box and Life box in the past. Don’t particularly care for the bulk of either.

What you got?

I had used otter box defender for many years. Bought the otter box symmetry when I got this phone a couple of years ago. Much thinner & lighter. And protects just fine.

Slight thread hijack but inspired by comment about getting away from wallet.

"When shirt doesn’t have pockets phone is in back pocket of jeans, opposite of wallet (which I’m slowly getting away from)."

Front pocket wallet, is what you need then. No more hip or back pain from back pocket wallet which if you drive a lot you've experienced it, plus no pick pocketing either. Bought this one 6 years ago on Amazon and its still going strong and I'm sold. I carry my drivers license, work id/mag door card, a little cash and 1 credit card and that's it. I have Google Pay on my phone and have other cards there which I normally use but carry just that 1 physical credit card because I got stuck one day in a hardware store and their card reader couldn't read the signal from my phone and Google Pay and I had to put the stuff back. I wish MS would allow the DL to be put on the phone too. I also have pictures of all my insurance cards, credit cards, loyalty cards, etc stores in a secure app on my phone.
The RFID feature (keeps people with magnetic scanners from reading your credit cards in your wallet) works really good on the wallet too. You can put a hotel door key card in it and hold it up to the hotel room door and it can't read it through the wallet.

I have had the same iPhone 13 for I guess about 5 years now with a screen protector and a 10 dollar case off of amazon. Not a thing wrong with the phone and looks like the day I bought it and it’s been through hell and back on the farm.

Here is what I have on the same phone. Jet-tech screen protector and a Flolab MagSafe case. Great combo and I wouldn't go any other way.

I hate going down the rabbit hole of making a decision, so I just buy whatever is on the shelf at the apple store

- Buy a 3 pack of screen protectors for $5 on Amazon. If you cant decide which of the 100 to buy, just pick whichever one has the fewest grammar errors. Replace as needed.
- Buy a case with raised edges that isnt silicone(cuz that shit sticks!) for $25 or less...and likely $15 or less.

Thats it.

Same, Otterbox Symmetry plus a screen protector that gives free replacements with a shipping charge.

I have had great success with the Spigen cases on Amazon. I get the ones with embedded magnet for Qi charging and other accessories like pop socket. Don’t even use a screen protector.

All you need for good screen crack prevention is case with an edge that protrudes past the bevel. That way even a straight face drop onto the ground will be completely absorbed by the case. A screen protector only benefits you if you drop the phone face down on unlevel or amorphous surface like a gravel walking path or something. Otherwise it’s totally pointless.

Also will give a plug for pop sockets, which are super cheap, ergo friendly, and great to keep you from dropping your phone as much in the first place. That’s just as important as a good case.

I like Otterbox, but likely any would do that provides enough friction to keep it from sliding out of your pocket, and of course, drop protection. Screen protectors are easy to install even for an old man.

I switched from Otter Box to Incipio about 15 years ago. My last two phones survived multiple drops.

Also disliked the bulky ones so added the accident insurance, bought nice leather thin mag safe cover from Amazon and a good clear screen protector. Only had to use the $100 deductible overnight replacement from AT&T once after a drop that cracked the screen. Upside got a new battery/phone in the replacement.
