I remember that 2014 Ashe Co game with Maiden I wasn't there but saw the score. THEN they got to host Monroe the next game and I was trying to get my fellas to come with me to see it but they knew better LOL. We didnt go. Needless to say Ashe was pretty good but they didnt play anybody and Monroe had 1 or 2 losses to get a lower seed and went up there and DESTROYED em' big time

We rode over to East Lincoln and watched them play Lincolnton the following week…watched them play Franklin the week after that!
Mustangs with the Surratt’s were fun to watch. They had Dollar’s on that team as well.
‘14 was a tough year for Maiden…lot of very good teams in our conference.
Some teams have a down year here and there and... there are some that just stay there for a long time or just in general or a good year once every 10 year or so. One of the biggest Cinderella years I ever remember was North Gaston. This team had THE QB and they were hot!! Think this was 2006. Even had a packed stadium when they played South Point and I think they made a decent playoff run. Hadn't seen them do a thing since. Cherokee bout the same way
Did North Gaston have a player that went to play for UNC? I am not sure who the HC was but to me it seemed like they were trying to run up the score against most all the opponents. Once those kids graduated the other teams did not forget...
East Burkes shine years were 2 years in 70s, half the 80's, 91' and nothing again til 2007 which was best team ever cause of Shatley and a few good athletes that surrounded him(played for Jags). 2008 was good but out first round, then big dry period again til 2015 were they made 3rd round playing East Lincoln for the 2nd time in school history(first was 93'). But yet the 96' team was 8-3 and didnt even go to the playoffs. Tied with Freedom and Freedom won the straw draw or something and played Independence first round and got their butts busted.
I guess I say all that to say this, we know the struggle. And EL was last team played in a deep playoff run. They do seem to be slowly turning something around. We just dont have the athletes in high numbers

Not sure where he went or can even remember what his name was. It was somewere big i'd imagine. Suprised Tom Knotts didnt grab him up when he was 10th grade or so lol
Princeton Brooks and AJ Blue were the qb and rb. Blue went to carolina
AJ worked at Carolina in strength and conditioning and now in the pros doing it. His son is a running back at Eastern Michigan.
I actually went to that NG vs SP game that year and had to stand under the scoreboard because there were so many people there. I can't remember if it was the play that won the game but I remember SP hit a hook and ladder play to score late.

We also lost earlier games to South Point, and before that to Maiden, who beat us on a hook and ladder to win the game. Still get a flash of down, just thinking about that play.
Pardon, if this sounds like a boast, it isn’t meant to, but it is kinda nice to tell it, I mention this as a wink and a nod to Maiden who is having a tough year: Lincolnton wouldn’t lose again after that, and would go on to win the small 2A state title. Most Lincolnton fans believe the hard schedule improved our game in the playoffs.
Oh! bit of a warning in downtown Lincolnton: There was an AMD sighting this morning as he drug a car right down Main Street he plans to fix up for the demolition derby.
A very wealthy citizen here, AKA a rich old woman, had to be treated for an anxiety fit by first responders, after AMD’s crash car came within a hundred feet of her Mercedes Benz.
When contacted AMD said he had another car down here he had to pick up today, so a bit of a warning if you come to Lincolnton this afternoon.

They finished 4th in the conference last year and was not the first in 4A coming out the conference, that was Newton-Conover, my point is not that everyone gets a bye, my point is that I just feel that how they do it is messed up. I'm just not a fan of the NCHSAA playoff format, it's no big deal just my opinion and we've always been mishandled even in 96.
They shouldn't get a bye based on the schedule they play! Outside of Lincolnton it's domination.I just want to make sure I am reading this right. Are you taking shot at Cramer and Burns? Or KM and Crest? Or the other powerhouses (okay I couldn’t type this with a straight face) in our conference?

Maybe Shelby had alot of defensive players out that game. Be bout my only theory.
I might regret my Lincolnton pick but we'll see. Lawdog is going with East Lincoln and hes the pick leader. I think he leads in the big game picks so far like going with WI last week. I think the Stangs' got a real good shot if QB can get time to throw, but they're prob gonna have eyes on Dollar as much as they did Spence last week.
I did watch the Shelby Lincolnton game on youtube. I'd say Shelby shoulda coulda scored more, they had some slight overthrows that'd been easy 6's. Lincolnton got a stout D and couple big bodies that can limit some things. Good playback vid.
