SIAP- Great informative read on Beaver Stadium’s expansion and how some of the most loyal fans are fed up with the increases.

Great; more negativity. Right now, the Beaver Stadium renovation is the best thing about this program.

I can see where everyone might have a different perspective on that. To me, without a contending team, it's like buying yourself the most impressive tombstone in the cemetery. You are still dead.

The Athletic? Yeah, no.

There were almost 115K in the stands and probably another 25K in the lots, and this guy is writing about attendance?

He ought to be writing about the optimism and passion of the PSU fans. No one would read that either though.

Meanwhile, in Nebraska....

Thanks for sharing.

Still very confused about capacity. What I recall reading when the plan was first announced was that capacity would come down a bit. Which stands to reason if you’re replacing some bleacher seating with premium seating.

Then this season comes along and capacity is apparently higher, with last week’s announced number being a record.

The author noted the record set last week. And he was at the game, so must have noticed the west-side premium seats not available yet. But then he says “Capacity will likely come down at Penn State…” Shouldn’t it only go up from here?

I know there’s temporary seating that’s not part of the official capacity. And that people on the sideline are counted in the attendance. But aren’t those numbers going to be the same as pre-renovation?

Fed up? I read it a couple hours ago, but I thought most of those interviewed were still going to buy tickets, but some may relocate at around or above the same price, freeing up their old seats to bring in more $$. Did I misread?

It sounds like a lot of people would be happier if we still play on Old Main lawn with a 500-seat wooden grandstand. I've heard the White Outs were epic.

Yeah, I agree. Beaver Stadium looks better than it ever has, and it's not as if PSU is the only school that has renovated or is about to renovate an aging stadium with a lot of physical limitations; it's being done or has been done at a lot of places in recent years. If PSU under this current AD and coach ever gets the other aspects of this program in order, then the renovated stadium will serve as an additional enhancement to entice players to want to play here.

As of right now, the number of seats in the stadium is the same as pre-renovation (wthin rounding error, one way or the other)
Which, of course, is the "you can stop here" reason the 114,000 is such an obvious pile of horse manure.

That being said:
The capacity will take a bit of a whack next next year (Not huge - best guess would be a loss of a couple thousand vs pre-reno. Though who the hells knows what Patty K will say it is? LOL The next time the guy speaks truthfully will be the first. How fragile is THAT ego?????)
The whack next year is primarily due to the elimination of west side bleachers, and replacing w club/chairback (which whacks seating by about 40% in those effected sections). Some of that loss will be offset by bringing the "mid level" club/suites online in the west stands. With the result being a slight drop.

Not in the plans - and I don't think it would make sense to do this, for a lot of reasons - but the way to make up for some/all of the loss would be to cram more seats into the stadium "corners". Really not worth considering, IMO, and I don't believe there are any plans to do that.

Its simple math - though the precise final numbers won't be known until its done.

I guess Kraft's next money grab will be to charge a fee to tailgate as well.

They probably should convert more of the bleachers into chairs because right now, Beaver Stadium actually may have too many seats. Also, the additional seats at the end of each side of the east side probably are unncessary now; they were installed last season probably to make up for the loss of west side seats duing the 2025 season.

I learned with the ORV Lot, that parking is becoming a lot like HOA's, which is not a good thing. PSU/HOA Karen has money and will pay, but here's how it's gonna be for everyone else.

Wait!!! What????
After years of being told it was pimp palaces with lazy rivers and spa amenities that make all the difference - that would get PSU FB to the top of the mountain?
Or was it luxury athletic housing with high-end restaurants?
Not making kids go to classes?
Something like that.
We've DONE ALL THAT - so what IS the problem?

WTF! Were we all lied to? LOL

And $1.2 Billion in debt can kinda' "crimp some options" LMAO

A really good program should be able to do both, as many have. It shouldn't be an either/or proposition. Beaver Stadium needed to be renovated and upgraded significantly.

When STEP hit, we rethought things. Now, one issue, to be fair, was the drive from Columbus to Happy Valley. Easy at 40--not so much nearing 60 (as we were then). Another was hotel prices. Then my wife pointed out to me that we could save enough money to go to Europe every other year.... Now we try for a road trip every year (but don't always make that). And our average has been better than one trip to Europe every other year, not counting the COVID gap.

In hindsight, perhaps building a new stadium with a lower capacity and chairbacks and cup holders for all might have been the better option. We sit in EJ on the wonderful metal bleachers and I am anticipating how much of an increase is coming. Curious that there is silence right now in regards to the proposed earlier renewal time from this month. 3 stinker games in a row may have had an impact on their strategy.

I was assuming chairbacks would only be going into the tarped-over 200-level. You’re saying they’re going to take out some of the 100-level bleachers and replace with chairbacks?

Nearly all of them.

That was the plan at least

That wasn't common knowledge?

The entire lower west bowl will be demolished during the off season and be replaced will all chair-backs. New ground level areas too. Welcome area, club, visitor locker room, etc.

The top few rows of bleachers on the lower west bowl are all old - just temporary place holders.
