Cal deserved to retire from here because of his accomplishments. Even Tubby. But we didn’t let them as their last couple of years were clearly showing a downward trend.

WTF has Pope done to deserve to freaking retire here? The man has no accomplishments and you’re thinking about Pope remaining coach long enough to retire? Jesus Christ the hyperbole is so blatant you’re clearly trying to start something.
Tough ask, engage your brain. If Pope retires from here, every UK FAN will be happy because that means … he has been wildly successful. Cal and Tubby were unfortunately not wildly successful. Whew.

Why didnt UK sign a starter of Mitchell's caliber during the transfer period n spring?

We clearly felt we needed another guy. Miracle august players dont happen much and this miracle didnt work out.
95% chance because that spot was being held for Tyran Stokes. Portal window was April 7th to April 21st to enter (although we could have still signed players after the 21st), and Stokes didn't commit to Kansas until the 28th of April. By then players of Mitchell's caliber were already gone from the portal. The only ones remaining were testing the draft process (and most stayed in) or were already committed to schools if they chose to drop out of the draft. Putting all their eggs in the Stokes basket killed both high school recruiting and the portal. UK still had a good portal class, but had a glaring Stokes shaped hole. Milan helped, and we kind of lucked into him. But we weren't looking for a Mitchell (and he wasn't in the portal either), because we were all chips in the center of the table on Stokes.

Umm …do you think we didn’t try? If so, then you have memory issues. Pope tried like hell to do so back then, but for whatever reason, kept getting bitten by the whiff-monster.

We’re just lucky the NBA was cold on Momcilovic (and that ISU didn’t have the money to bring him back). His draft withdrawal was the late lifeline saving us from disaster.

Had Mark Mitchell have gone into the portal when he was supposed, he wouldn’t have committed to Kentucky.

Then try harder. This is UK.

UNC was saying the same thing when they were looking for a coach.
To be fair, their AD is apparently just as bad as Mitch Barnhart if you go by their fans. Considering he hired Belichick, I can see where they’re going there.

I still don’t know what Mitch Barnhart’s coaching search plan was supposed to be. Ask the guy who already won a title and hope he says yes, only to be told no and proceed to hire someone no one was asking for? Literally the same thing happened when he allegedly went after Donovan and then got ended up with freaking Billy G and then he did it again with Drew and settling with Pope. It’s so weird.

It just doesn’t make any sense. Why not run an extensive coaching search? How is that so difficult for you, Mitch?
