Disagree about no prolonged NBA. There are plenty of defensive-minded Bigs who are having long NBA careers.Say the bar was 20 mpg 14 ppg 8 rpg does he exceed that?
On his nba prospects he has no face up/away from the basket game to speak of at this moment...no pick n pop no prolonged nba. Also on defense can he switch and at least pedestrian on an iso/island...last season proved no
Very few programs kept all their players. So we are a farm team….
Unless he gets on Hurley’s bad side.Said it in another thread.
Najai is gonna kill it with UConn.
I would not change the rule. It is not like it keeps them from leaving. This is true. On the one hand, understood fan sentiment of having to watch Richmond play us a few times, or now what we will be dealing with on Hines for the foreseeable future (personally, I think he's in college through his senior year, which means we are seeing him probably 6-9 times as an opponent depending on the BE tournament). That sucks. But Richmond helped elevated SJU and Hines will help elevate Uconn, and having teams like that at the top of your league does benefit the league as a whole.
You aren’t wrong, but I expect the fan base won’t see it that way when he returns the first time. Recall Kadary got booed every time he touched the ball - granted there weren’t many people there and we were down by 30 pretty quickly - but I’d expect the same level of vitriol if not worse since he went to the conference’s big dog of all places. We have nobody to blame but us. Kid did what was best for him. Any of us would have
Would you have paid him $4M matching UConn? And even if we decided to match that sum given the choice would he have picked SHU over UConn? We have nobody to blame but us. Kid did what was best for him. Any of us would have
That’s my point though. We aren’t willing to pay and we aren’t a destination of choice. That’s our fault.Would you have paid him $4M matching UConn? And even if we decided to match that sum given the choice would he have picked SHU over UConn?
With the budget that’s been bandied, we can’t afford to pay him that much, and still field a roster. If you’re Hines and you get the same offer from both schools, where are you going? That’s my point though. We aren’t willing to pay and we aren’t a destination of choice. That’s our fault.
Yes. And lower teams are farm teams for us.So we are a farm team….
Again, that's my point lol. And thats all SHU's fault. Hines did what every one of us would do.With the budget that’s been bandied, we can’t afford to pay him that much, and still field a roster. If you’re Hines and you get the same offer from both schools, where are you going?
What should SHU have done differently?Again, that's my point lol. And thats all SHU's fault. Hines did what every one of us would do.
What is the difference between us and Uconn? The fact that there is a difference, and the fact that we are on the lesser side of that difference, is OUR problem. If we want to retain the Hines' of the world, we need to become the program Uconn currently is, or else stop complaining. What should SHU have done differently?
I see us as a victim of the new rules. What should SHU do to try to make sure this doesnt hapoen again?
Rules did change kinda mid stream. Do you agree they are the problem? That was not our fault. Uconn took advantage, as they should. No blame to them from me. We may not have dealt with the new rules as aggressively as we should have, but I dont think it would have made much difference. What is the difference between us and Uconn? It's Seton Hall's fault that we are not on Uconn's level. Who else's fault would it possibly be if "fault" had to be assigned?
Yes, there is uneven resources, but again, that is OUR problem. It's not Uconn's fault they have a great program that has resources to pay kids and does a great job of developing them for the next level.
Don’t the rules apply to everyone?Rules did change kinda mid stream. Do you agree they are the problem? That was not our fault. Uconn took advantage, as they should. No blame to them from me. State schools generally have way more resources than private schools. If RU did things right, they could have become Uconn. They didnt. Uconn did. Well done.
We dont have a Repole. We used to, but no longer.
SHU has had less than most BE schools from the start. Used to mean they had a better practice facilty, chartered flights. Now having less means someone else can pay our players more and the transfer rule change says they can do leave no penalty.
What should we do? How should we raise millions of extra dollars?
Don’t the rules apply to everyone?
I didn’t say I have the answer for how it should be done. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s our fault as a school. I don’t see how this is controversial.
I don’t understand why we complain. We used how many teams as our “farm program” this year? Name the previous schools of all our transfers. Did we do something wrong by offering them presumably more than their previous schools? Who is to “blame” for that?
Of course it is!The controversy is that you keep throwing around the word "fault." Is it your fault that you don't make enough money to be Seton Hall's Repole?
I think we complain cause the new rules not only suck, but they hit us, a small school that competes in a high revenue sport at a high level, the hardest.Don’t the rules apply to everyone?

And that's why at some point down the road SHU has to seriously consider moving to a lesser conference. Of course if the Big East money we receive continues at the current or higher level we can choose to stay and just expect to be satisfied annually with either middle-of-the-pack or doormat status. That’s my point though. We aren’t willing to pay and we aren’t a destination of choice. That’s our fault.
Sound analysis. What is the difference between us and Uconn? The fact that there is a difference, and the fact that we are on the lesser side of that difference, is OUR problem. If we want to retain the Hines' of the world, we need to become the program Uconn currently is, or else stop complaining.

And I don't want to hear the "small private school" line. Nova, Creighton, Gonzaga, and others have all had success despite being small private schools. If we don't have the same level of successful donors, thats OUR fault!
Any way you cut it, it's our fault. I don't see what's difficult here. Who else's fault would it be? Adriana? Father Intintola? Judge Krater? The Boston Strangler? Who?
That's my point. And it's probably not even close because he's a sophomore. He’s the biggest loss we’ve ever had in the portal.
No way we should move down. I'd root for us regardless -- I follow a mid-major college baseball team fanatically because I played there and other family went to the school. But we won 20 last year and weren't THAT far from the dance. And we'll be good again this year. And that's why at some point down the road SHU has to seriously consider moving to a lesser conference. Of course if the Big East money we receive continues at the current or higher level we can choose to stay and just expect to be satisfied annually with either middle-of-the-pack or doormat status.
We need some Sandro Lakers money!!It's a combination of things.
It's always been harder to win consistently big here at a certain level. The new rules made it even more difficult.
We don't have $$ like Uconn or the numerous advantages they get as a large public university, although everyone else in the Big East has to deal with that unlevel playing field too.
We don't seem to have a "R" word or enough fan support to generate more $$ compared to peers.
The school apparently did step up from a revenue share perspective so I'm not sure this is entirely on them. In doing so that no doubt pulls money away from other worthwhile endeavors, but it is what it is.
Our HC doesn't help the cause of player retention or fan engagement/support. Certainly not at the level of what we see at other similarly-situated schools, which are far, far more transparent all year and better at player retention for reasons that seem to extend beyond $$$.
After taxes and kickin up his share, he’ll be lucky to net $500 out of the whole thing. We need some Sandro Lakers money!!
Ha. Or we should get KW to kick in given the long leash we gave him as HC, even when he was flirting with the Holy Cross and USF’s of the world. Give us some of that main line Northeast generational wealth Nova cash, now that he is setup for a gig of the lifetime after they just went through the Neptune experience. We need some Sandro Lakers money!!
I agree, and every single one of those seem like "us" problems. It's a combination of things.

We're in a far better position than most D1 schools.I think we complain cause the new rules not only suck, but they hit us, a small school that competes in a high revenue sport at a high level, the hardest.
I happen to think some rule changes are more likely to somewhat level things than SHU ever finding a way to raise the money to spend like many other schools. And in sports, money is always important, but you still have to play the games. Ask the Dodgers (tge Ners, the Yankees, et al)
Moving down should never be an option on the table. We must find a way to make this work. Others have and we can too. No excuses or giving up.And that's why at some point down the road SHU has to seriously consider moving to a lesser conference. Of course if the Big East money we receive continues at the current or higher level we can choose to stay and just expect to be satisfied annually with either middle-of-the-pack or doormat status.
There's compromises in life, @HallGuy2323 ... alright give him 1200 ... for the pain and sufferingAfter taxes and kickin up his share, he’ll be lucky to net $500 out of the whole thing.
Yes, definitely. Way better than most D1s. But few if any schools in a hoops conference as good as the BE are in a tougher spot. We're in a far better position than most D1 schools.
