Like it or hate it but I don't understand not getting it. To me it makes sense not to stream this. It is not a major event and they really want people there. If they streamed it I probably wouldn't go. Since they aren't streaming it I'm going to go now.
That's not even close to true.

Oklahoma State has many fans outside of driving distance to stillwater. People aren't going to stay at home and just watch it on stream. If that were true, you wouldn't be sellingout Gallagher-Iba EVER.

You can't tell me its not true when I'm literally that person. I would 100% stay at home and watch the Cowboy Invitational if it were streaming. Of course it doesn't impact the must see events people want to be in the building for (like Iowa). It absolutely affects attendance for the smaller duals/events.

If this wasn't true they would stream it.

Your anecdote doesn't prove anything.

It's no different than sports teams owners bickering over televising an event. If you're truly concerned about that, your marketing team sucks. Because you're also missing out on getting your product in front of those who literally can't attend.

So why isn't OSU streaming if it has nothing to do with attendance? OSU could stream this in their sleep if they wanted. They don't want to for a reason.

It’s one event bro, pipe down. It’s not like they cancelled streaming for the whole season.

Right? Did they cancel streaming for the whole season?! Ahhhhh

And he can hit a sweep single better than me. He's still wrong on this one.
They've done this before. Apparently it worked or it wouldn't be happening again. DT has done an amazing job at bringing resources into the program. I'm going to trust him on this one.

That was an RTC event - so i completely get that one.

But this is an event with Oklahoma state on the singlet, and other D1 programs involved as well. That means there are 4 other schools who have fans who cannot watch the event.

Worrying about if opposing families can stream an event really should be at the bottom of OSU' priority list. You two are concerning trolling. DT wants people in the arena. Not streaming the event is a good way to accomplish this. This is not rocket surgery. The opposing teams did not argee to this event because of hopes it would stream.

I'm sorry that somehow annoys our resident Hawkeye fans. Maybe in the future DT will take into account the feelings of our Hawkeye brethren in financial decision-making for the program.

I'm not an Iowa fan . I'm a wrestling fan and exactly why I brought up the families when it was announced no streaming. How much you think this event will make them?

More than if they streamed it.

There are a lot of arguments for why this should be streamed. Making sure LR's 125 pound's mom can see is not a needle mover. Sorry.

@Corby2 and @vhsalum

I can't say I like the decision, but I get it. Football will be in the thick of playoff implications and there will be many, many more than casual Wrestling fans that would skip and just stream so they could catch all of their Football games too.

Also, are we sure who's call it is? ESPN owns the rights. They 100% aren't going to spend any, any effort that takes away from their precious cash cow. I don't remember, but I am pretty sure they own the option to keep/produce, sell to the highest bidder or just keep and hold. If I am an ESPN decision maker, I keep that Wrestling event behind the curtain when there are eyeballs that could be on the Football product.

Add to that, I am not sure what implications this does to favor the Wrestling budget? Tickets (cheap,) concessions (money split) and other small facets.

It sucks for many, no doubt. Just for you two, I'll wear my Meta's and text you matches in 45 second intervals.

It would be more than "LR's 125 pound's mom"
No kidding ... it was sarcasm. OSU should give zero thought to the opposing team's families when making financial decisions about the program. That just isn't a compelling argument.

OSU flat-out said they aren't streaming this to add revenue to the program. I'm guessing DT and OSU have a better understanding of the financial implications of this than you.

And i'm going to say they're absolutely wrong. It's both historically inaccurate (television, and umm... streaming) and shortsighted in terms of brand marketing.

I said from the beginning ESPN didn't want to do it. Then everyone said the reason was it's a fundraiser is the reason why🤷. My opinion the using it as a fundraiser came after ESPN said we aren't streaming it

It is for wrestling fans that mentality is why we now have 78 programs🤷
No, we have 78 programs because of Football and greed of TV execs. Schools simply cannot fund Wrestling at this juncture. Conference realignment, TV mega deals, NIL, etc. is killing all of college sports.

Well, we've already been paid. Why spend any money to have anything that might take money away?

Football pays for most of the sports on campus. If football goes it's own Olympic sports are in trouble. Wrestling doesn't make $

Oh, I know. Most Football programs don't make money.

My point is, the synergy between realignment and money is that major focus is on Football in AD's all over the country. As an AD looks at it, Wrestling is another red item in the budget and it makes fiscal sense to cut it. Wrestling doesn't make money and it doesn't move any needles in realignment.

*hear is where I disagree with the decision to NOT stream. The lifeblood of our sport is private donation and a $40 ticket and 8 $16 beers isn't going to outweigh 1500 people paying $9.99 to watch the event. Then again, I am not sure of the contract with ESPN and how to navigate it. However, the more fans that are drawn, the better for those private funds going to all programs.

And the program has plenty of donors the $ made from this won't make much of a difference.

Good lord. OSU wrestling not streaming their wrestle-off has nothing to do with the lack growth of the sport. OSU is the most accessible wrestling program in America.

You are concern trolling and very badly.

Well, I hope our program and the broader wrestling ecosystem can survive DT's foolish decision. If there is one thing that DT has sucked at, it is brand marketing. Really hope he figures that out one day.

Until there is an endowment, money is a focus. There are multiple scenarios where certain instances will dilute the donating significantly. A fool and his money are soon parted.
