The writer credits Mouser with solid game plan for first half (agree). In 2nd half USC DC Pattetson adjusted to take away pass game and challenged PSU to run. PSU couldn't do it. Writer said it's an OL issue predominantly at Center (Riker) and Buhr (LG) who unfortunately are both playing injured.
Writer proposes OL change up during bye week as follows:
-LT (Goodman remains)
-LG (move Cousins from RG - Buhr sits)
-Center (Insert Ikakoula -Riker sits). I wonder if Rulli, if healthy could fill that position?
-RG (Donkoh moves here)
-RT (Either Sexton or Aliciene)

I agree OL shake up should be tried. Have to get the running game going.

I wonder if the WR Sowell wasn't fully recovered from what looked like an ankle injury he got in the first half.

Haven't seen enough of Sexton or Aliciene - but unless one or both of them are the second coming of Anthony Munoz, that ain't gonna' help much.

That said - shouldn't and wouldn't blame them for trying ANYTHING at this point. Couldn't hurt (much).

If you wish to evaluate coaching one criteria I suggest is points scored in the second half. You know, after the new superior coaching minds have made adjustments. 15 points in 3 conference games.

Why sign up when I can browse free info?
I’ve been on Lions den board for 30 years and getting the info from these guys is much better than other sites. Just my two cents . Also, many people in the lions den do not come over here.

I expect it is much better. I'm just not interested in paying for info. I can wait until free sites publish news.

I believe the point is PSU's run game couldn't counter the adjustment Patterson made and his switch to a different pass coverage scheme also thwarted PSU.

That looks like a much better plan. Buhr in particular just does not have it.

One old Bear Bryant-ism that I always remember (and this is from a LONG time ago, so it isn't verbatim)

"If the other team has a lousy OC (offensive center) I've beat them before we ever play the game."

I have always found that to be a very true statement. If your C can't stand up to the opposing DL, at least a little bit, everything you try to do on offense (even in this MUCH more wide open era of football) is basically f-ed.

PSU has run a couple centers out there, and good Lord they have been awful (I know there is sometimes some chirping that Riker may be a bit banged up - but it is what it is).

Certainly gets worse and worse when one of your guards is consistently not touching an opposing defender on many plays, your OTs are "meh", and at least one of your TEs is "kinda' allergic" to blocking.
It's a mess.
It is not like there is some big mystery as to why they can't run the ball. And, honestly, PSU has yet to face an "average", let alone "good" defense this year.
That will change on Saturday.

I'm open to any changes on the O-Line that will shake things up and provide a spark to the run game. All of our RBs are just average. I can't believe QM can't see the field and be better than he has shown but maybe it is his practice habits as has been rumored.

I am not sold on Mouser. Our red zone is horrific. I think we are close to the bottom in all of CFB in scoring TDs in the red zone.

Both coaching staffs are expected to make adjustments. In game and at the half. If PSU was stymied in the 2nd half as a result of Patterson's defensive adjustment, it simply proves my point.

It's hard to believe that after winter workouts, spring practice, fall practice and 6 games, there are any players on the bench that are the key to winning. The coaching staff is desperate for answers and going under for the third time so to speak. I think most have heard that noise coming from the QM camp and yet he remains on the sidelines. I believe in giving the coaches the benefit of the doubt, when it comes to deciding which players give them the chance to win. Blocking, pass protection, blitz recognition and pick up etc. Something is missing with QM.

I don’t care what Campbell says, but Martin is the best RB on the team. I saw Breneman’s video diagnosing Hansen’s wild cat run vs USC. It was a very well designed and well blocked play. He could have bounced it left or right and the field was wide open, perhaps for a long td. Instead Hansen goes straight into his own blocker and the defender makes the tackle for a shorter gain. Hansen is an awful rb. The other 3 RBs take that for a long gain. Martin would probably take it for a TD. When you have a weak line, the RB, if good enough, can still bounce some of those runs for Long gains. We are emphasizing the one RB out of the four in the room who cannot do that at all. I have a lot of problems with how Campbell and Lynn both have performed this year. I actually think Mouser is doing pretty well scheming guys open. It’s either his QB who can’t make the passes to WRs who are often wide open or Hansen who runs with his head down and does not see the rest of the field. I think Campbell is more concerned with what players are winning practice rather than what players can win them games. I think he gives too much credence to the practice warriors from ISU. Most of them were the exception of Sowell and Robinson have been massive disappointments in actual game time.

I too believe QM could have had a big gainer there and perhaps even Wallace. Problem is, we aren't at practice watching how each RB does overall. It is apparent that the coaches have confidence in Hansen even though he continues to struggle running the football. He is seemingly the best RB in pass protection.
