Are you sure funds are being used? And it is not a zoo discount, likely that they can use for write offs?
The fact that someone decided taxpayers should foot the bill for SNAP recipients to go to the zoo is a problem. Idc if it’s 10$ a year, it’s wrong. If the zoo wants to subsidize them, go for it, but it’s not the state or federal government’s responsibility or prerogative to provide zoo admission to low income families. It’s the principle of what’s happening. It’s disappointing to me that so many of you lefties want to rush to give away what isn’t yours to give. That is a big problem imo from the left. You folks justify everything with feelings, but feelings don’t pay bills and feeling don’t provide for families.

Think of the poor children being forced to spend time at the zoo around scary EBT card holders!
Yea that’s exactly the point, what a dumb post. It’s not about that. Fact remains it’s not the line worker at freight liners responsibility to make sure all the EBT card members get to go to the zoo. How’s this even debatable. Do any of you idiots work? If so, go start a foundation giving away free zoo tickets, why the hell do I have to pay for it?

Man, what a state of affairs. Gotta get the feds to buy you a damn zoo ticket, down bad is an understatement. Does the government pay for the car they drive to the zoo?

But, but, but..... BILLIONAIRES can afford to buy them a zoo ticket... lol...

Another day another MTT melty about something he doesn't quite understand
He understands it very well. Y'all are just apathetic to fraud. Of course it's not that a zoo discount is a huge deal in itself, that's why i likened it to death by a 1000 cuts. It's the fact that you all are apathetic to every little thing and it's to the point where you have pushed the people who actually write the checks and pay the taxes to pay attention. The left took advantage of our empathy.

It's pretty clear you MAGAs never had empathy, so saying the left took advantage of it is a bit of a stretch. It's not fraud. Things you don't agree with aren't fraud. USAID spending money on soft power initiatives overseas isn't fraud. Punishing children for the failures of their parents isn't something I'm fine with, but very clearly you guys are.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Entry to a zoo has nothing to do with nutrition. That is fraud.

Either you or piggy posted two clips of people complaining about EBT holders at the Houston and Columbia zoos so my response was relevant.

But pardon me if I don't share your rage about these people you don't know because you have no idea about their circumstances or why they're eligible for these benefits in the first place, but feel free to spin off the planet about zoo entry fees - in the present climate, I guess this is all you have.

I pay taxes too for your reference and I'll worry about more important things.

What a bad take. That’s what charity, donations, churches, etc are for. I give freely. We are talking about taking money out of working people’s pockets to give it to someone to go visit a zoo. How is this that difficult for you? The government isn’t responsible for empathy. Show me the amendment that says taxpayers are on the bill for things like zoo visits. It’s ridiculous. The fact you weak men can’t call it like it is tells me more about you than you could ever type here. There’s right and wrong. This is wrong. Period. You’re weak people with no principles or awareness. Like I said. The guy making $15/hour picking eggs doesn’t deserve to have his tax dollars raided because he’s trying to do the right thing. You idiots punish people for trying to do right. You’re weak.

100%. Happens to every community in the country. It’s the primary argument for illegals. I deal with this daily. It really is bad, welfare is completely out of control. You wouldn’t believe the stuff I see.

Reparations boy. No one wonders where you stand on giving away other peoples money. 👌🏻
do we have to have another level set where I remind you that I have mentioned reparations 3 times in 3+ years (including tagging you once as a joke a few weeks ago) and you've mentioned them perhaps 30-40+ times

Say it’s completely hypothetical. What’s your stance? Stop dancing around it and make a point.
I don't think this would be something I'd expect to be covered by SNAP and voted on by Congress, no. I can't imagine how little money it would be comparatively, and the zoo is educational as well and would allow for poor kids to get that type experience they may not otherwise (as opposed to say Carowinds or something if the drop in the bucket were to continue, in other words a slippery slope). So I don't believe this would or should be covered by SNAP, but would have no issues if the zoo wanted to use an EBT card as an easy way to distinguish who would be a good candidate for a "scholarship" of a sort to get to visit the zoo. Perhaps they would even use it as a write off of some sort. Which I would guess is the case here.

I just don't understand getting bent out of shape about this, but not caring that the president keeps pardoning fraudsters (and wiping out their debt), or that the GOP candidate in Texas is clearly corrupt (as voted on by his own colleagues in Red Texas), or the various pretty straightforward grifts the president and his family have been doing right in front of your face. And I don't doubt that you'll say you're against it. But your words in this thread read as real anger, and I don't see that from you or others on here about the many very real things openly happening.

You know that I’m unashamed of it, and yet we’ve had many a civil back and forth, have we not?

Do you think your views are any less problematic in my mind than mine are to yours? Do I call you on every single one of them every single time we've interacted as some kinda gotcha?

I only am responding now to you (I've ignored it for months) because I believe you're better than that. I'm fine if your not tho homie and can continue to ignore.

You're dumb and have a child's grasp on pretty much every topic you seem to talk about with authority. How is it taking money out of people's pockets? It's a state-run initiative - IN A STATE THE GOP HAS HAD FULL CONTROL OF FOR OVER 20 YEARS - offering a discount to like 8 educational locations in the state. Would you have been taxed less if this initiative wasn't passed in 2023? No one's being punished except for the handful of posters who are stuck reading your elementary takes on so many different topics you don't understand.

I guess I just don’t think like that. I think no more about what you refer to with Trump than I did with Biden or Obama bc they don’t really have that much impact on me. I’ve had this conversation before where someone argued with me when I said teachers are more impactful than presidents. I believe that. I’m not excusing anything but one thing I know is that politicians are lying, pos scumbags regardless of party affiliation. But we can impact people at our level and we should. And when I tell you we’ve missed the mark I’m not sure how else to explain it. I literally see it every single week. The welfare state, entitlements, disability, all of it. It’s going to destroy the country so I feel strongly about this. We have to get control of this and every time we placate or add more to it we just enslave these people more. It’s vicious. We’ve decimated our own people for nothing and it’s going to get worse if we continue. That’s a rant, I’m sorry. I like and appreciate you and your posts but I’m telling you if we don’t get this under control it will only get worse.

tldr: zoo can let anyone in they want. Government and tax dollars don’t need to be involved in everything. They already are.

I hear you. Would love to find ways to put more into better education (even vocational) and then mental health as ways to “teach a man to fish” type deal (and mental health I just think is an issue). Cycles of poverty is really hard to break. Don’t disagree it’s an issue.

I just struggle seeing people get angry about situations that aren’t even confirmed to exist. Like, there’s a pretty good chance the entire tweet or whatever was literally created to make people angry. To gain engagement on their post/page. Divide people further.

Another example I just saw of something just to divide and make people angry that happened a while back:
IMG_3323.jpeg

People on X/Threads/BlueSky etc twist and make things up so frequently just to get engagement, and those sites prop those posts up because that is how they make money too. Then you have the administration doing the same and using influencers to tell their lies. If that doesn’t piss you off, I’ll never understand that. Would piss me off if Biden’s admin were feeding straight lies to influencers to enrage the left too.

So I read up on this and this is not paid for by the taxpayers, i.e., the state does not reimburse the zoo. The zoo opts in "voluntarily" and they absorb the cost. The discount is limited and covers one cardholder's household(up to 4 people)during regular daytime hours and excludes special events. An extra visitor adds little cost to a zoo with spare capacity and the visitors may buy food, merchandise or memberships. It's no different than giving a discount to seniors, students, military and children, so this is much ado about nothing.

You can relax now.

You left out the mainstream media. They twist and fabricate just as much as X / Facebook / Tik Tok etc

There is no monopoly on misinformation.

That being said fraud is not misinformation. It’s real, it’s everywhere we look and being reported by a multitude of outlets. Much of the stuff we wouldn’t know without X and social media.

Saying something is death by a 1000 cuts is not outrage. It’s nicely telling people we have had enough. We are at our max.

Every president in the last 40 years has pardoned questionable people but the welfare state has exploded in that same time. The pardons and Trump complaints just keep peoples eye off the ball. Same thing when people cry about Elon. Those people have negligible effects on any person on this board but they hate all of them. The people on welfare do impact all of them and they avoid that topic like the plague.

Ask them this. Would your life improve if
A: Trump and Elon pay 1,000,000,000 in taxes.
B: welfare enrollment is restricted, fraud punished and eliminated and no more releasing violent criminals.

Reducing improper payments, tightening eligibility to those truly in need, enforcing work or other conditions where appropriate, and keeping violent offenders off the street affect safety, taxes, program sustainability, and social norms more than extracting an extra billion from two individuals.

Unfortunately this is tiresome and fruitless to keep explaining over and over.
