Heck looked great. Took him a minute to settle down. Kind of reminds me of Tate. He throws hard, needs a little touch. Hank has better touch. Iowa is blessed with two good QB
I think we are starting to see some fruit from Lester's QB work. This is the first year he's had anyone to work with for more than ONE year. This bode well for the future

Those who think Heck had a chance to take the job last night don’t know KF ball. Once he picks a starter for the year it’s their job unless they lose a limb.
You obviously aren't old enough to remember the time Iowa had 3 starters in one season during KF's tenure. He used to have 2 Qbs playing during the season a lot during his early years. He learned his lesson as he has stated in the past and won't let a QB controversy bother him. Right now, there isn't much separating the two. So, why not go with the guy who can see over the offensive line?

In 2000 we had 3 starters and none of them passed for more than 900 yards.

I’m hopeful Heck gets the nod if for no other reasons than there was never a true stated #1 and Heck has the latest hot hand as a starter.
I think these are fair

Those of you who took the time to laugh at my posts explaining how Hecklinski is Iowa's best QB may post your apologies at any time. You should know by now that when it comes to evaluating talent, especially QB talent, I'm right about 99 percent of the time. KF? Not so much. Kyle McCann, Jake Christensen, Jake Rudock, Spencer Petras, Deacon Hill (!) . . . and then game manager Hank Brown. That's KF's record. Ain't that somethin'?

From the time Hecklinski led that 75-yard TD drive vs. Ohio State's starting defense to KF turtling last night, the offense under Hecklinski has been multifaceted and dynamic. And yet, had Brown not suffered a boo-boo, Hecklinski would have been on the bench again last night, and Iowa would have been in a battle they probably would have lost.

BTW: It's fourth and 1 in the 4th, you have a comfortable lead, you've been running all over the Washington defense, so what do you do? If you're 99 percent of college football coaches, you go for it. But if you're Kirk Ferentz you "play it safe." You go embarrassingly conservative yet again. You hope to get an offside call and, when you don't, you punt.

KF says he's not in the entertainment business, but he's wrong on that too. And not only is he losing fans with his boring, ultraconservative schtick, but he's losing recruits. Who the hell wants to punt on 4th and 1 in that situation? Why, KF of course.

Nice West Coast win, but it should have been more like 55-18 instead of 41-24. But that's what we've seen from KF for 28 years, and it will never change.

BTW: Who's laughing now? I am. LOL
Do you think KF makes the call on who starts at every position? I would think the position coaches have a big impact on who starts.

Iowa was a literal underdog against Washington.
This. And coming off a game against Ohio State and short week and playing in the Pacific NW. Now we’ll never know how Hank would have done with a running game that opened up giant hole after giant hole after every play. What we do know is how quickly Hecklinski saw the open man and also how fast he got rid of the ball. Maybe Hank would have done the same. But I’d rather have a Kenny Stabler take no **** guy like him out there not afraid to make a play. Again, kudos to Hank for an incredible game winning pass at Michigan. But he’s not willing to throw many into tight windows. Now maybe Hecklinski goes out if Hank is still out and tosses 2 interceptions. It’s possible.

Who was calling for beathard to be benched? We just haven’t had elite QB play, so people are always going to question if the backup is better.

Questioning really is NOT the issue. Its the posters on here who post that clearly THEY KNOW who should be starting. Just go through the threads. Its pure nonsense that people who have really NO actual contact with the program, and see these guys 12-14 days, (for a couple of hours), out of 365 as compared to trained paid professionals who spend probably 150+ days a year with these guys in the trenches, yet its the internet couch coaches who know what's best. Lunacy....Not saying a coach or staff can't make an initial judgement mistake, but i'll take the paid pro's who spend a good part of multiple years with these guys as the ones making the correct call more often then not.

Just another ridiculous take that makes people understand your basic thought process that leads you to spew the other ridiculous comments you make.

For all the greatness of KF his QB evaluations would be better left to a fan poll. Lol

KF pick. Fan pick
McCann. Banks
Christensen Stanzi
Ruddock Beathard
Brown. Hecklinski
Four QB battles in 28 years. Some fans make it sound like an annual event.

And I don't think these two should even be on the list -

1. Christensen (experienced)/Stanzi (inexperienced) - They split time for 4 games and Ricky won the job. Against Pitt, the Hawks scored 10 points with each QB, They were 3-1 at the time and proceeded to lose the next two games with Ricky as the starter. I guess KF didn't make the decision fast enough?

2. McCann/Banks - McCann, the Senior, had a very good season. Banks admitted he didn't know the whole offense. I don't think the fans were begging for Banks to start until they found out how good he was the next year. I don't think KF made a mistake here.

The better examples are Ruddock/CJ and Brown/Heck IMO. Very similar. CJ and Heck (maybe) are true gamers. Some swagger to their games. Fans like that - KF probably not as much. I think Heck should start the next game but hope Brown is ready to go too.

I agree fans have overblown the quarterback thing with Kirk. He usually “got it right” in the end.

The only issue I ever really had was playing James Vandenberg every snap in a losing season, even in blowouts. There really was no excuse not to give any of the next season’s possible starters some game experience.
