Roger that. I couldn't make my fingers work a keyboard if I was going through what this guy is.

Sneak your cowbell in?

Thread Hijack: I know you've got an extensive streak of away game attendance. Have you got a bell into every (original or since '92) SEC stadium?

I think I got mine into Vaught twice, and Williams-Brice once. Shortly after that last one, I just left them in the truck for away games, especially after the ban was lifted at Davis Wade.

I took mine in a wanna be sec stadium. Liberty bowl v Memphis Tigers. It was the year Michael Gholar played football and I think he blocked a Memphis FG attempt.

Anyways, i got the cowbell to the seat. It didn't last long and an usher said I had to give them the bell or leave. I couldn't give them my bell. So as I was being escorted out, almost to the gate. I turned around and saw my escort wasn't following me any longer. I turned and went through another portal back to my seat. I kept the bell silent the remainder of the game. It all sounds very dumb 25 years later.

Love your enthusiasm!

My prediction: Win or lose our fan base will find something to constantly ***** about.

Win: "Our offensive line better get it together for when we play 'good teams'"

Loss: "Fire Lebby. This team will only win one more game this year"

My first thought was that we found who was using Bulldawg77 as their sockpuppet…

I'm going off memory here, but I'm pretty sure the only two kicks Gholar blocked that season were during the first and last games, Oregon and Ole Miss.

I DO remember the Liberty Bowl cops being really obnoxious cowbell narcs that game, to the point that people started shaking keys to mock them.

I also remember coming home from Memphis the next day with a water pump in my 1997 Ford Explorer that started going bad about halfway home. I'm not sure how I managed to pull that one off, probably the ignorance of youth.

Lol I actually lost a good cowbell at LSU in 2008 because I got sloppy and tried to sneak it in wrapped in a game program bought outside the stadium. Dug through trash after that game a lot looking to find it and never did. If I had done my normal routine they'd have never got me.

To your question, I'm pretty sure I've gotten a bell into the other 11 original stadiums. The only one I'm not certain about is Georgia because a) I specifically remember a trip there where I forgot to bring it entirely, which might have been 2006, and b) I don't specifically remember if I tried in 2011 or not. Pretty sure by 2017 I had stopped trying. I reached a point with the whole deal where I got tired of keeping up with the stupid thing only for it to sit under a game program the whole time, and that was before John Cohen lied and said the SEC mandated metal detectors, which maybe about half of them or less actually have now, but there's no beating a metal detector.

The best sneaking a cowbell story I have is also a story about my dad, who was a 6'5" college teacher and the son of a cop as well as a cop on the side himself for about 25 years at the time. I only ever took Dad to one game, the 2000 Egg Bowl in Oxford, and the rain made him never want to do it again, but when we walked up to the gate outside the old metal bleacher north endzone at Vaught-Hemingway in our rain gear and everything, of course Cobra Security was there doing their body cavity checks. I had a cowbell in the front of my pants as usual, and made it through the pat down fine, then the guy turned to my dad. Dad at this point had drawn up to his full height and proceeded to use 100% of his cop/teacher voice to forcefully tell the poor Cobra Security guy "No Sir."

Dad proceeded through unmolested. God bless him. I'm cracking up right now thinking about it.

His favorite part of that game was after it was over, when about 25 drunken Ole Miss fans made a halfhearted attempt at taking the goalposts down to celebrate their 7-4 regular season. One of them went full steam ahead at a state trooper and bowled the state trooper over en route to the goalpost. I was talking to some friends, and Dad tapped me on the shoulder and said hey you might want to watch this. At this point the state trooper had gotten back up and was walking with purpose to where the kid was, pulled him off, whipped out a confiscated cowbell from his back pocket, and commenced to whooping on that kid before cuffing him face down right there on the wet grass. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fanbase.

Now when I go in at Ole Miss for Egg Bowls, I never have a bell anymore but if they make like they want to pat me down, I just look at them and say "I don't have a cowbell on me. If I did, you wouldn't find it patting me down, but I don't have one." and they have let me go.

Edit: I'm laughing now at the thought of @Maroon Eagle reading this, who knew my dad very well, and is probably the only person here who can fully envision this scene accurately.

Agree, but also he's one of us, so some general harassment that affirms that is good medicine sometimes.

I read this before I realized you tagged me.

The tone of voice, the intensity, his height at the gate…

Recognizing what was about to happen and sharing with you the teachable lesson after the game… Priceless… 😂

I fixed it, it was a one-word word mistake. The opportune word being such when I mean it to be “rather.” Like I said typed in a hurry hell it’s probably my 17ing blood-oxygen level who knows. I only know what I was trying to type and got tripped up.

is a cool story. If you’ll read further down y’all will see I made a mistake trying to type fast. Please know I am on my last legs. It’s apparent. The jokes are funny and all but old.
