Trump administration rollback of a previous requirement to compensate passengers for delays or cancellations for lodging, meals, travel expenses will take effect on October 19th

I expect to see some celebrations from our board’s beloved anti-American and anti-consumer posters on here such as @fatpiggy @Scrubby @TigerGrowls

I know these 3 can’t stand it when consumers are protected, perhaps they can take a break from stroking themselves to the administrations decimation of the country to comment on how much they love seeing the American consumer get screwed

Where am I begging for money?

This issue doesn’t affect me really, living in Atlanta there are rarely delays/cancellations. I rarely have to connect (only once in the past 6 years)

However, as someone who actually lives the teachings of the Bible and isn’t a scumbag Trump supporter I am able to recognize that this is real bad news for millions of Americans. Given that this change was brought about by the Trump administration, the most corrupt administration in our country’s history, it is fair to conclude that the corrupt Trump admin is anti-consumer. In a consumer-based economy, to be anti-consumer is to be anti-American

In conclusion, Trump supporters are anti-American

You have to be retarded with all of the posts you make.

Ah yes, if a President is able to do so many bad things it's really everyone else who sucks because they noticed.

It’s sad that this is your interpretation of the post

I hope you get screwed by an airline as a result of this change brought to you by your Chief Thief Trump

Let’s face it airline customers are still getting screwed every day right now with the current rules.

That is one regulation I did like though.

Americans accept the will of the American people. You don't. Go to Cuba loser. You can enjoy the warmth of their collectivism.

Under the updated federal regulations (mandated via the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024), the following situations are no longer considered controllable by the airline: [1, 2]
  • Unscheduled maintenance
  • Extreme weather damage
  • Medical emergencies
  • Unruly passengers
  • Baggage system outages
  • Cybersecurity attacks
  • Government system shutdowns
  • Overheated brakes
  • Aircraft cleaning after a passenger death
  • Airport closures caused by volcanic ash, wind, or wind shear [1, 2]

Trump did do this, though

In June, the Department of Transportation dropped a Biden-era rule regarding hidden fees. The rule would require airlines to list additional charges consumers may face, like checked baggage fees, alongside the full fare during the booking process.

Between this and ticket prices skyrocketing as a consequence of oil prices skyrocketing thanks to the unprovoked and unwinnable Iran war, Americans are feeling the squeeze of unaffordability harder than ever. Of course this is all intentional from the current administration

Why would anyone want to reverse this law?

Washington, DC — Today, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sent letters to the CEOs of the ten largest U.S. airlines making it clear that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) expects them to provide passengers with cash refunds as required by law.

In the letter, Secretary Buttigieg reminds airlines that the refund requirements in the FAA Reauthorization Act took effect upon enactment of the law, on May 16, 2024. The letter outlines the following DOT expectations:

  • Airlines must clearly and proactively inform passengers of their right to a refund whenever their flight is canceled or significantly changed.
  • Cash refunds – not vouchers or credits – must be automatic for passengers when they are owed.
  • Airlines should make it easy for passengers to get free rebooking, meals, hotels, and/or transportation to and from hotels as promised during controllable disruptions.
  • If passengers opt for vouchers or credits after a canceled or significantly changed flight, they must be valid for at least five years.

Most of those seem reasonable.
