Apparently while taking the ride picture. Nor sure if he tried something incredibly stupid or if there was a major equipment failure. Hit the car behind him three teams then landed on nearby roof. What a horrible way to go.

Anyone ever ridden this one?

Unrelated question: anyone headed to State Fair this week?

Correction: apparently his fall was captured in someone's souvenir picture. Damn.

Odds are he just won himself a Darwin Award.

Why would that be the case?

All current indications are he was on the ride with his young son, and something horrific happened to eject him from the coaster.

I’d guess there will be an 8+ figure settlement headed that family’s way very quickly, and also a massive investigation and probable park closure that will cost even more than that.

I have ridden it several times. You really get airborne in those seats. I mean really airborne especially the first drop.

6 Flags nationwide is just not run very well, been past time to shut that shlt down

Same with state fairs

You want to ride a ride, go to Disney/Universal/Busch, where folks know what they are doing
Been too Universal 5 times. I and my daughter really enjoy the rides. The last time I was there I was wearing a State T Shirt. The guy taking the tickets at the gate was a Miss State engineer grad. I asked him was he working for the summer going to grad school. He said no, he was hired as a engineer for Universal. Part of his training is he has to work every job in the park to see how it runs and work.

I noticed when I rode Velocicoaster the first time, every bolt has a paint marker on the head to the body of what was bolted to make sure if those bolts moved an 1/8 of an inch they would be out of line and noticed. Someone died on Stardust Racer at Epic last year but he was in a wheelchair with several spinal surgeries and died of head trauma. I’m surprised someone let him on the ride.

I rode that thing back when it was new in Atlanta, which has been several years ago. It has been awhile since I rode a roller coaster, but I think it is time to retire totally from that hobby. It seems like the quality of everything and the competence of everyone is going to **** so I will stay off of thrill rides from here on out.
There is a 1 in hundreds of million chance of dying on a roller coaster, (probably 1 in 20 at a local fair). I think the odds are in your favor.

When I was a child my great aunt Ruth told me a story about visiting an amusement park in Southern California when she was a young lady. She was born in 1905 so I assume this would have been in the 1920’s. A large crowd gathered near the roller coaster to watch two drunken sailors in the front car standing and raising their arms. One of them fell out and landed at the crowd’s feet and she said it sounded like a watermelon splattering. His body expanded like a rubber ball, then bounced 6-8 feet in the air before coming to rest. He was dead on impact, but from what she remembered he just had a little blood coming from his nose and ears.

As a result of this story I was a little leery of coasters as a child.

I'm surprised there aren't more deaths or injuries reported from local fair rides. Get torn down and re-assembled all summer by guys who are drunk & stoned out of their minds.
Yup. The ones that pop up in parking lots seem to be hastily assembled by carnies.

Just one of several reasons I don’t ride most amusement rides these days
I've ridden a roller coaster exactly once. Never again.

The one at Six Flags should be as safes as they can be since it's permanent and presumably well maintained, but the ones at state fairs - no.

I don’t tend to joke about folks dying in horrific ways, but maybe that’s me

I agree.

I thought I read where he was riding next to his son. That's heartbreaking.

However, I'm extremely disappointed in this board for not making the joke I thought of immediately, but decided against due to poor taste.

I heard it was but a humble stone slung from someone on the significantly smaller David ride.

So you enjoy this sort of thing. That’s 17ed up. Might want to edit that post chief.
Where do you see enjoyment in his post?

My thought process was, "I bet a defendants and plaintiffs law firm would love to buy that photo from that person. But, as far as a joke or enjoyment, I didn't see that.

Rode it several times a few years ago on a trip with the kids. On about the second or third ride, I started thinking about the fact that there wasn’t a visible secondary safety restraint. I’ve ridden roller coasters my entire life and have never been scared on one, but I’ll admit, that one got to me.

Read somewhere the man in question was lowk most of us and of a larger size and that was a possible cause for the bar not being securely locked in place. The article was theorizing he shouldn't have been let on the ride due to his size but was allowed on anyway.

How do you build a roller coaster without a backup safety restraint these days?
