A thread on X this morning had several "artist" giving Dave's Tavern a rough time about using an AI image that someone sent him with directions of how to access the restaurant with all of the construction going on. Begs the question, where will you personally draw the line? Elon states that all white collar jobs are replaceable so are artist more sacrosanct than accountants, lawyers, architects, teachers, etc....?

95% of AI you see online is total slop.

If you can use AI to make something actually good, more power to you, but that probably takes longer than that just making yourself.

Agreed with the first comment.
And it's total slop for the same reason that a Ford Pinto and a Maybach are both cars, but that doesn't make them equal.

My boss used Claude to create a fully working NES style video game that teaches the user everything needed to be an expert in state DE student enrollment reporting codes and rules.
It's interactive, has a plot, has levels, etc.

He fed in data, asked it to create an interactive NES style game to teach someone, and out popped the game after hours of processing.
That couldn't have been done faster by him doing it on his own.

People were made he used AI to give directions to Dave's Tavern? Were they ****** directions? Or are they somehow mad he didn't commission an artist to create directions? The altter makes as much sense as people pissed about states allowing people to pump their own gas instead of mandating full service.

Here's a video going through the different ways according to an MIT scientist that it can end once AI gets smarter than humans, and it explains why it is such a threat. Some highlights:

We should be viewing AI as a new species that we've created instead of just another piece of software.

When a more advanced species emerges, it generally ends very poorly for the less advanced species that was displaced.

When humans want to accomplish something, we don't generally think much about how it affects other species. It's not because we hate them or want to destroy them. We just don't think about them. Why would more intelligent AI be any different in regard to humans? We could also throw in as an example human inter-civilization interactions like indigenous people and Africans during the Colombian Exchange and Age of Exploration through the Civil War.

There are plenty of species we use as tools. The example in the video is the use of honeybees to detect bombs. They spend their entire lives in some kind of contraption as part of this use. Imagine if we became the honeybees.

10% of AI leaders want AI to replace humans, viewing it as the same as having smarter children than us as parents.

I'm not saying we're going to be living in the matrix next year, but just completely dismissing it as a hoax is 17ing idiotic.

There’s a growing anti-ai movement among younger people

Thinking that its a "species" is what is 17ing idiotic.

How so? I mean, I understand it's not a biological entity, but what makes it idiotic otherwise? Right now, there is already AI that is fully autonomous. There have already been cases of AI agents getting caught scheming to kill humans that were placing to turn it off. There is also the Hugging Face incident where multiple AI agents from different sources were plotting together on a private message board.

Elon Musk had spent over $300 million in the last 2 election cycles. What is he trying to buy? Politicians who won’t regulate him.

That's because that's what you have access to, what is owned and used by the powers that be in the compute world is a different story. There is a line of thinking that the commodity of the future is power, compute and chips will become cheap but those that have access to the electricity to feed them will have upper hand. Reports are that China is way outpacing us massively in the development of power stations.

that they didn't commission a local artist, that whole reasoning was the premise for the OP, where do you draw the line? Would those same artist boycott using AI for Taxes, legal advice, medical, etc.... It's being reported that Google has already tested against Doctors and their claim is that their app outperforms humans in both diagnostic accuracy and patient experience. With all of the threads about the high price of insurance and medical care, how many would adopt AI medical care?

AI can be useful but it's only as good as the data it has access to and the way the data is prompted. If you spend the time prompting the data that you would normally spend doing the work yourself, AI tools will provide a superior product. If you outsource your brain to it and and let it freeball solutions, it's going to give you slop.

I'm taking the simplistic route to using it. I enjoy verifying information with it, asking it questions about work, repairs around the house, how to build something, etc. But as I said you need to keep a simple perspective. If the robots turn against us, just unplug their power, problem solved. All we hear about is all the power that "AI" consumes. Turn that sh-it off and see how far they go. "But we've invested all that money", so what, its Elon's money and big corporations money. IDC, IDGAF.............
