At this pace, how long can we expect to keep Stein?

Sorry for asking a question for discussion on a message board, didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. Thanks for your insight as well, extremely informative btw.

Pay absolutely no attention to the last line of my explanation as well, I don’t think anytime soon but I could see in 2-3 yrs someone like a Michigan wanting to talk to him.
2-3 years is "sometime soon". Do you think Christmas is, like, forever?

Why not forever. Stoops was one of the top paid coaches in all of CFB. If CWS continues on this trajectory money isn't going to be a issue, NIL funding is about to go 📈📈📈📈 in the SEC. If Will really loves this place like that what reason would there be to leave.

Kentucky is the perfect job. SEC money and for the most part slightly below SEC expectations. Right now this second WS will be getting a extension at the end of the year 100% chance. If things shake out and somehow actually end up in the playoffs year one the place will be named after him one day. .

LSU already wants Lane gone, A&M is probably gonna can their guy, UT better get it rolling before they start getting mad at Josh ... Bama wanted DeBoer fired, Auburn probably wants their guy gone, Floridas honeymoon with sumrall came crashing down now he's billy napier 2.0...South carolina wanted beamer gone badly. With top flight pay here there's no reason to go to mess and expectations like that. That a ego move which I don't think Will will just be out for that especially with the links to here.

You can get players anywhere and this year will prove that actually yeah... Everyone wants to play for Will Stien now that they've seen the results prove themselves on the field.
You can bet your *** that most of those schools will think they can just snap their fingers, throw out cash & Stein will come running to take the job, the funny part is when he turns them down lol. 🤣🤣

He ain’t leaving for another college job (assuming he gets the financial support)…he’s one of us, a born and bred UK fan!!
In interviews, it is clear he loves the NFL. My focus, like his (I hope), is just beating OU. The first 6 games have been beyond expectations and I realize, even with this staff, we could easily be 3-3 right now. I am not ready to put a cap on the season. The start has been great. Let’s keep winning and make it magical. I hope Wallace can get back from injury and Alfari is ruled eligible this week.

While I absolutely love being 5-1 my lord we are halfway through season 1 here. We were two plays away from being 3-3.

Aren't we jumping the gun quite a bit.
EXACTLY!!

We have half the schedule left and 3 brutal games that we could take a L.

While I'm beyond hyped about Stein and what's he's already done, I'm not gonna go so far as to wonder how long he stays.

As fickle as this fan base and board is. if we lose to Oklahoma, Mizzou and ut, the next thread will be "did we hire the right guy"?💀

With that said, Stein is da man! He'll be here for many years.

3-4 years. NFL will come for him by then

I think we get five years as long as we are financially competitive. Then, unless the nfl moves back to more power run game (offensive styles cycle through) then he will feel the need to test himself there.

The only caveat is if ben Johnson keeps excelling, the window might get tighter. Mcvays tree owns the nfl offensive scene but Johnson is doing things that might be changing some minds.

I think we have a great coach and he was a fantastic hire. The future is bright.

That being said, talk of losing him is extremely premature. He's 4-1 will two wins in OT. We are two "go for 2" plays away from being 2-3.

Do you think Cignetti will leave Indiana? I don't. I think we will keep Stein for a long time because in the new era you can win big at any SEC/BIG school and being at a blue blood is just an unnecessary extra layer of expectations and obnoxious fans.
Cig is much older so don’t think you can compare. If legislation is ever passed that limits coach salaries that might make nfl more attractive

Not going anywhere, I think youll see coordinators take jobs tho...and that would be a big deal for our program if coordinators start getting HC offers. But that will be a trait Stein learned From Dan Lanning.

Do you post anything insightful or just stupidity??? It’s just a discussion amongst people outside of RR cool kid. He’s flipped the narrative of uk football and if I was Michigan for one, I’d be keeping an eye on what’s going on in Lex.

It’s just a question or discussion about the success he’s having and the trajectory he has us on. If you wildcatdon don’t want to offer anything worth reading, then my goodness no one specifically asked for your opinion. Scroll on if you don’t like it cause you’re not the RR police and no one cares what you say, I’m sure you’re a trip person Santa.

Ill be shocked if he is still here in 5 years but I hope to be surprised

Why is this the first thing everyone worries about? I think Stein will be here for a long time. I’m all about paying him but we can’t have a coach hold a program hostage with their contract like Stoops did.
He’s already making 9,000,000 a year. First year coaches make way less than 9 mil. Some of you are just out of your head in 2026.

Things are a bit different now a days it seems, as we witnessed during our basketball coach search debacle. Guys can make good money and win anywhere now, NIL changed the game. Stein can create a legacy here and it may be the homer in me but I think that means more to him then coaching the Browns .

lol after the game it was funny seeing other teams fans on twitter dreaming of poaching Stein. ND fans were talking about how “funny” it’s gonna be when Minchey transfers back to them after this year.

Saw a couple Texas fans dreaming about what Stein could do there but the fanbase I saw most talking about Stein was Michigan fans. Admittedly a large chunk of their fans called it a pipe dream and said they’d never be able to get him from his dream job but there was still some that said “Michigan is the better job” and they’d just outspend Kentucky. That they’d have no problem taking him from us.

Stoops did not have one. That is just an exaggeration many have treated as factual. It was a long contract with performance goals that would have let him coach here as long as he wanted providing those goals were met. At the point it was signed he was coming off his second 10 win season in 4 years was 4-0 and we were ranked #7.
Nobody claimed Stoops had one. Cal did though and it basically crippled the program and is the reason for the current mess.

No coaching deal should be longer than 7-8 years, period.

Cal didn't actually have a lifetime contract either though his 10 year contract (very similar to Stoops) would have had him at around 70 by it's completion. That made it a couple years beyond what you deemed acceptable. The truth is you can still remove a coach whenever you want but it requires paying a buyout without cause which is the case for the majority of firings in general.

Im not so much worried about other college programs now, as I am worried about the NFL coming for him.

I make these comparisons to Ben Johnson and KOC. Well the downside to that, is elite teams will come calling.

I think the hope here is that he has a few great years at UK and puts us on the map, so when he does leave (and I ultimately think he will), we have a foundation for the next hire.

I think Will Stein spends the rest of his coaching career right here at UK, much to the dismay of opposing teams who's asses he will be kicking on a regular basis.
