We finished last year at 125, so KenPom has us 43 spots higher.

I believe the preseason rankings are based on previous production of the PLAYERS on the roster somehow extrapolated to team adjusted offensive and adjusted defensive efficiencies, so I’m taking this as a huge positive that KenPom is viewing our roster to be markedly better.

Obviously, a preseason ranking is going to be sketchy until games are played, so we have to take it all with a huge grain of salt. But the efficiency rating has to give us some minor measure of hope about a better roster.

Where were we at the start of last year on this?
85th, ahead of only Penn State who were 95th.

Last season's Preseason ---> Final below.

Generally pretty accurate outside of a few. Injuries have something to do with that especially Maryland.

Purdue 3 ---> 8
Illinois 6 ---> 5
UCLA 10 ---> 28
Michigan 11 ---> 1
Wisconsin 20 ---> 23
USC 22 ---> 77
Mich State 25 ---> 10
Ohio State 27 ---> 25
Maryland 34 ---> 119
Oregon 37 ---> 101
Indiana 40 ---> 45
Washington 45 ---> 52
Iowa 46 ---> 22
Nebraska 51 ---> 16
Northwestern 57 ---> 58
Minnesota 73 ---> 82
Rutgers 85 ---> 125
Penn State 95 ---> 139

Watching Gurdak yesterday, I have to say that simply replacing Ogbole with Gurdak and keeping the six players we kept makes this team markedly better. Adding Smith, Jones, Sydnor and the rest of the players Rutgers added provides a lot of hope that Rutgers will win more than a couple of games more than the 14 games Rutgers won last season.

At the bare minimum, I feel (fairly) confident Rutgers won't have any of those WTF losses against teams NJIT or Delaware State this year like they had last year against Penn and Central Connecticut.

Also, if they're as improved as they appear, the RAC should return to being the Trapezoid of Terror again. Lost way too many home games last year,.

With the current state of the football program, RU Hoops has a great opportunity to bring the RAC back to that level, which no doubt could be responsible for an extra win or 3 👍
