At least he knows and didn't just drop dead from it before finding out
That pretty much describes what happened to my brother. He wasn't feeling good for a little while. Assumed it was a bug like any 20 year old. The delay in treatment probably killed him. Lots of seemingly healthy young people have dropped dead on a field.

Like me, this guy got a heart. God bless him.

How could anyone jump to the top of the transplant list so fast?

Could have been publicity playing a part? Normally it's purely a function of need, location, and tissue match.

Good questions. Going from learning you need a heart transplant to having surgery in only 3 days? That can sometimes be a multi-year process (if you survive that long).

Need plays a big part. If you survived several years you weren't listed as 1 which is the top of the list. At 1 you're very near death and often on mechanical assistance to keep you alive. That was me. Sometimes it's simply luck. Someone dies, they're a match for you, and there isn't anyone above you that can take it.
